Thank you so much, I really appreciate that! Holga Week was a good one, got through 4 rolls of film, now I'm just waiting to get the negatives back from the lab! Did you participate? Thanks for watching! ❤️
No, I wasn't able to participate - my camera collection (obsession?) Does not (yet) include a Holga. I can't wait to see your shots - thanks again for putting in the effort to make your videos - I truly enjoy them.
@@randyreitenauer oh well, there's always next year! I will eventually publish the images I submit for HW on my Instagram page, but only after the official judging ends. Thank you so much for your support! ❤
Awesome results! And right on cue to give me the inspiration needed for next week! I got my 120N being dug out tonight and shooting all colour film this year! 2x Gold 200 and one of Silberra Color 100. And I'll be shooting one roll at the Toronto Zoo on Saturday!
Thanks Alex!! That's so awesome, I'm happy to hear you'll be participating too! And bold move with the all-colour choice, I might be making the same decision! I haven't yet decided what film to shoot yet, but I have a nice selection of b&w and colour, so I'll decide on the fly! I can't wait to see your results! Thanks for watching! ❤️
Ha ha, so true! At least Holgas last a little longer (sometimes!). They do still have a charm to them, and I'm always excited when my shots actually turn out exactly the way I want them to! Thanks for watching! ❤️
Thanks Terry! Holgas are a lot of fun when you want to try something new, or help you get out of a rut. They are simple, which really lets you concentrate on your compositions, just don't forget to focus! Thanks for watching! ❤️
Jess, you make a wonderful Holga Week ambassador. Thank you for spreading the word, and especially encouraging more female photographers to participate. You're the best. Cheers, M
Great shots there, Jess!!☺☺ I have a couple of Holgas (the 120GFN and the 120WPC), so I'll be out there, hopefully, getting some shots. Oh, if you're interested, there's a guy on eBay that sells the attachment that allows you to attach a shutter cable to the Holga so you can get long exposure shots. He 3D prints them and they're not all that expensive. Might be good to get one!!
If anything goes right I'll be at the Wacken Rock Festival for the first time next year but I'm yet considering the camera I take with me. In East Germany we had a camera with similar settings, the 'Perfekta'. I love that lowfi style but the intention behind each shot as you describe it perfectly. (I love your energy and passion. Your vid was again beautifully filmed.)
Merci Jess. Très intéressant, même si je pratique plus la photo argentique depuis....20 ans, mais avec tes vidéos, je vais sûrement recommencer. Amitiés de France.
Thank you so much, I really appreciate that! It might not be the best camera around, but it's a lot of fun to play around with! Thanks for watching! ❤️
Neato, Jess. ☺️ My remaining Holga (used to have a few of ‘em) is a 120SF with a Polaroid back attached. The original Polaroid made ‘em for a few years in the early 2000s, I think. The back takes 3 1/4 x 3 3/8” pack film: 85, 87, 88, 89 designations. I remember trying the 87 (b&w) first and getting horribly blown-out results. Then I noticed the film speed: ISO 3000. 🤣 The others are all ISO 80 or 100 and gave decent but not great results. Haven’t used any of it since 2005 or so.
Thanks for the suggestion, Richard, I just might do that! It's funny, but XP2 is always the last film I think of, but I suspect it would look great shot through a Holga! Thanks for watching! ❤️
great 'review' come walk around, nice day, and good shots, one idea, as this is a 'retro' design camera, you could add a flash (if this is permitted in the holga comp?), but a new one has come to my attention, the Godox delux, Senior and junior, the senior has an old school feel, the '50's bulb type with the fold out satelite dish, but modernised, and ONE pin only, so will work on this type of camera, but it's A mode has one quirk, asa 100 at f8 I think, from memory, so this will solve your exposure issues with dim light and asa 100 stock.
I just received my Holga 120N the other day and I am 6 shots deep with 5 shots left and I can't wait to see the results. This is my very first medium format camera. I have a funny feeling that I will be addicted to this camera lol. @JessHobbs
There are a lot of negative revies about the Holga but I really like it from what I've seen. To me, it reminds me of an instant camera in. a way, just no instant photos? I think that it gives that aesthetic and quality
Ha ha, honestly, the Holga really is a pretty crappy camera! It's plastic, this one also has a plastic lens, and it needs to be taped up so that I don't get unwanted light leaks, or for the back to spontaneously fall off. But it is so much fun to just let loose and shoot with! Thanks for watching!
I detest the Holga camera. However, many photographers who I respect (including yourself) like this example of non-quality consumer goods. I have seen some lovely photos by folks (demonstrates that gear doesn't make the photo). I think this camera has so many flaws and limitations that photographers enjoy the challenge of overcoming them and producing "art" photos. I think the cult arises from the challenges of poor quality and limitations that users overcome or try to overcome.
Ha ha, yeah, I do have a bit of a love/hate relationship with mine, not all of my shoots go the way I want them to! It's a fun way to mix things up sometimes, and to focus purely on my compositions, and I love taking it out for Holga Week! It is definitely a challenge to overcome its limitations sometimes, but I like to think it helps me to keep things fresh. I do understand that it's not a camera for everyone, but I hope that the video is at least fun to watch! Thanks for watching!
I’m going to go dig mine out of my closet! I want to get back into photography and this is one of my only cameras I have. 🤍 Well, I also have a Polaroid 350 ☺️
Good luck! Can’t wait to see your submissions!!!
Great video. Thank you for sharing Holga Week.
Thanks so much!! Holga Week is truly one of the best events of the year, and I love to encourage others to take part!
Thanks for watching! ❤️
Very nice photos! There is something about this Holga. Thanks for the work done. I don't want to write my own book and call it "Mamiya"
I love the energy, Jess!
Good luck with Holga Week, and happy shooting ~

(Light leaks) “it’s not exactly what I’m going for today’ 😂😂😂
Great video Jess!
Ha ha, well, to be fair, I don't usually shoot for light leaks anyways, but I especially don't like them on b&w film!
Thanks for watching Mike!! ❤
Love the video Jess! Awesome photos and I've got my Holga ready for Holga week too! So excited :) :)

cool video, thx! i will finish my testroll this week also and am looking forward to holgaweek.
I am not a Holga fan, but you nearly converted me. You got some great pictures out of it, well done! Good luck for Holga week.

For me, Holgas are like an upgraded version of disposable cameras. They definitely not technically the best, but they still have charm to them!

Glad to know I’m not the only one who forgets to focus when shooting with a Holga!

I would reccoment using Ilford XP2 in a Holga it would cover most lighting conditions.
Thanks for the suggestion, Richard, I just might do that! It's funny, but XP2 is always the last film I think of, but I suspect it would look great shot through a Holga!

@@JessHobbs I use XP2 in compact cameras and rate it at anything between iso 50 and 1000 and am always pleased witht he results.

If I don;t tape mine shut, never fails that it opens :)
