A great clip Spencer! I follow Spanish football closely and it’s great to see Real Oviedo moving on up! I was in Asturias on holiday with a friend in summer 2011 and clearly recognise the Monte Naranco with its religious statue that you drove up to. Unfortunately we didn’t have time to visit that but I remember clearly that our hotel was near the foot of that hill. The calle Gascona with its ‘Sidrerías’ was highly memorable, too, and well recommended for any visitor to the city. In fact, we went into the same cider house as you! The spectacular white building on the horizon as you view the city from up high is the Buenavista Shopping Centre. At the time of my visit there was a Real Oviedo Club Shop there. Business was very quiet and the atmosphere was rather downbeat but I spoke to a fan in there about the club’s plight and he said ‘Ahora el club está en mal estado … ¡pero volveremos!’, meaning ‘The club’s in a bad state at the moment … but one day we’ll be back up in the Primera Liga!’ Of course, with their recent promotion to the Segunda División, Oviedo are a step closer to doing that! By the way, for anybody interested in Real Oviedo’s ‘modern’ history, type in ‘Melendi: Volveremos Real Oviedo’ into the TH-cam Search bar. If you understand any of the Spanish it’s a great song. Melendi is a well-known local Spanish singer and a Real Oviedo fan. For anybody who’s thinking of visiting Asturias, make sure you check out Gijón, Oviedo’s ‘rival’ city, and Lake Covadonga, too. Gijón is on the Atlantic Coast and has a pretty cool Spanish nightlife and the Semana Negra in the summer, too. I have to say that I found the local people very genuine and down to earth. Lots of other really beautiful places to see in the region, too.

Succes supporter... My home team just got relegated out of the Eredivisie (NAC Breda) where i went every game of the season. And since they got relegatet they had an record of seasontickets sold, 1100 in 16 hours. Support your (local) club in good and in bad times. sorry for bad english

My recommendations for anyone who goes to Oviedo, try the following local dishes: sidra (our local cider, Asturias is a celtic region), tabla de quesos asturianos (assorted asturian cheeses, all different), fabada (asturian bean stew), fritos de pixin (panfried monkfish), crema de nécoras (crab cream), tortos (corn waffles acompannied with meat, fish or other ingredients), pastel de cabracho (scorpionfish paté), escalopines al cabrales (escalopes with cabrales cheese, which is an asturian blue cheese), chorizo a la sidra (sausage cooked in cider), cachopo (panfried veal filet mignon stuffed with cheese and ham), arroz con leche (asturian rice pudding, the best in the world!, true!). And you know, other typical spanish dishes you can try in Oviedo such as pulpo a la gallega (octopus galician style), calamares a la romana (panfried squid rings), pimientos del padrón (fried green Padron peppers), chuletitas de cordero (lamb cutlets), parrillada de verduras (grilled vegetables) among many many others.
If you enjoy Oviedo's fans passion and the city mountain's view... you should definitely come to Argentina. Craziest football fans in the world, best vistas in the world! :)
U guys are so fortunate u have been to so many places around the world and I've only been to Jamaica, but some people haven't gone anywhere except from going to the people asking for money, so sad
Like for Alex's cachopo BTW, the hotel's gift wasn't actual champagne, but cider. A Spanish cider brand called "El Gaitero"(the bagpiper), but once you've tasted Asturian natural cider, El Gaitero would taste bad as hell! Greetings tron Vallekas, Madrid. Don't go changin'!
