In this video I show you step by step how I seal my concrete vessels for my candles. My customers LOVE concrete candles. Not only are they so unique, but they’re reusable. We try to use as many products in our studio that are environmentally friendly, and concrete, while super cool, is not biodegradable SO we have a REFILL PROGRAM that has been utilized by many of our customers where they can reuse their concrete vessels over and over while also having fun “making” their own candles. Learn how to make your own concrete vessels start to finish, including how to seal them so the wax or fragrance oils don’t seep through.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge! I do have a question, how do you print or ink your logo to the curved side of a concrete vessel?
Thank you. I use a custom stamp from Zazzle. Permanent ink pad from Amazon and I roll the stamp onto the vessel after I seal it. If you watch one of my other videos, I show it there. It’s called Worst Candle I’ve Ever Made. 🙂
Thank you for asking that question Barbara that was my question I was going to ask and I saw it in the comments I love how her concrete are stamped like that
You have me convinced to switch to Rutlands. Thank you for the video
Amazing ❤
Thanks for this!!!
The Rutland sealer is ok to use with candles? The heat doesn't throw off fumes or flamable?
There’s no such thing as too many candles. Thanks for sharing.
Late to the game, but I wholeheartedly agree - there's no such thing as too many candles! One question - I have been using a faux shammy to wipe my vessels and my large white ones are getting drips (for some reason the smaller vessels are fine and so are my large grey/black ones - go figure!) - any suggestions for avoiding drips? I see you are using a microfiber towel, do you find that continues to absorb the excess product even when sealing so many vessels? Thanks for the videos and keep it up!
Thank you for the comment. Yes, I believe you can just wipe it better, I give mine a wipe down similar to when I'm hand drying my dishes. I don't get any drips. Good luck and thanks for watching.
2 am marathon 😅
Amazing video! I started using this sealer and following exact thing your doing but i do see it leaves streaks, i was wonder what am i doing wrong? Thank you.
Are you wiping it thoroughly after each dunk?
What kind of finish do you get on the outside, matte or gloss??
It’s matte.
Hi, I have just started making concrete vessels and I've found your channel extremely helpful. I have a question about sealing.. The first batch of vessels I sealed with Rutlands, using the method you demonstrate in this video, turned out great. The next two batches I've done have ended up with a chalky film on the vessels when I am finished. I can't seem to figure out what is causing this. I have the ratio correct on the water : sealer so I don't know where I'm going wrong. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks so much
Are you sealing each next coat within one hour? You want to do it before the last coat dries. If you are, try doing it in 30 minutes. Perhaps your environment is dryer than mine. Good luck.
@@brewmillcandlecompany Thank you! I'l try in 30 min instead of one hour.
There is no such thing as to many candles 😉 do you stamp your vessels? Or use a clear label? They are amazing!!
I stamp them 😊
And THANK YOU 😊
Thank you for sharing your process. I wanted to ask if your concrete vessels cure for a total of 14 day? 7 days after water bath + 7 days after sealant. Also is Rutland sealant good when it comes to heat.have u experimented with non sealant candle jars, would love to know your opinion. Thank you.
Thank you for watching and thank you for your comments. Yes you are correct, 7 days then seal, another 7 days before filling with wax. I use Rutlands sealant BECAUSE it’s designed to be exposed to high heat. It is in fact a fireplace sealant. As for experimenting with no sealant, absolutely, but not because I’d planned to not use a sealant, I always knew I would, but so I could have a starting point in my research and development stage. Start at zero right? Obviously the results were as expected; wax and fragrance oils seep into the porous concrete and leaves an unattractive finish.
No such things as too many candles, lol. Please keep making these types of videos.
More to come!
There is no such thing as too many candles. Question please, I want to hydro dip my concrete vessels. Do i do that before or after sealing. Thanks for your time.
Thank you Thomas. I would do it after.
There's no such thing as to many candles. These are lovely. From start to finish, what is the average cost of making these concrete vessels?
I have done the math, I’m not at my computer right now so don’t quote me, but it’s around $1.10 per vessel. I include everything. Cost of Cementall, DI water, pigments if used, any shipping costs to get raw material in, I also include cost of mold; divided by 100 (although that’s subjective as I’m certain I’ve made plenty more than 100 per mold).
@@brewmillcandlecompany Wow! That's a great value. They are beautiful. You do great work. 😁👍🏻
@@BrendaBodwin THANK YOU 😊
What is DI or RO water?
RO is Reverse Osmosis Water, a system you can install in your home.
and
DI is De Ionized Water, some refer to as Distilled Water, mostly available in grocery stores by the gallon.
Both are effective in using in many making processes where chemicals and irons in tap water can cause harmful effects in final products.
I use RO Water for most everything I make and DI water for my lye mixture when making soaps.
You can get this same sealer at Home Depot for 27.99
There’s no such thing as too many candles!
How long do you wait to seal? How many days after vessel comes out of the mold.
Pour. Remove from mold after three hours. Seal after seven days. Pour candles after another seven days. 😊
@@brewmillcandlecompany Thank you so much!!!
