    You can turn any pot or basket ECT into a cache pot by cutting a clear dollar store shower curtain to fit and lining the bottom. Thrifted baskets are my absolute FAVORITE. Square/rectangular ones can be used as a wall mounted planter if you wrap wire around the back and hook it onto screws. Just a random plant hack for ya -- you're welcome 😆

    What you do with your ferns is what I do with my 12 Alocasias. I have found that if I put river rocks at the base of the container pot it helps with watering . I top water over my sink then put them back in their planter. Any excess water drips on the rocks and acts like its own humidifier. Since doing this they are booming! New leaves all the time and no over watering and no root rot. I also always wet my leaves when watering. So far no pests either. I'm going to try this system with some of my delicate prayer plants as well. I have 24 different types.

    • @vickykent353
      @vickykent353 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That sounds like an excellent idea. I think I'll start doing that.
      Now, when you say river rocks, how large (or small) are you talking, or does it even make a difference? For example, I have some pea gravel that I could use, but my thought is that pea gravel would hold very little water for the added humidity to be useful. So would rocks the size of say grapes or a little larger be what you use? Thanks for the idea, and thanks in advance for the answer to my question. 🙂

    • @PureAussiegirl
      @PureAussiegirl 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @vickykent353 yes that should be fine. I use river rocks that are around pebble size. It has saved me a ton of Alocasia watering stress and they definitely love it! They have been booming with new leaves since doing it. I'm sure you will see the results quickly 😊

      Maybe I will have to try this with alocasias and prayer plants too then!

    I’ve had the most success in leaving my calatheas and marantas in nursery pots with cover pots. If I repot, it’s into a bigger nursery pot/cover pot combo. The cover pot helps retain moisture in the warmer months, and I usually remove the cover pots in the winter if they don’t seem to be drying out as they should.

    Do cold climate people keep heat on 24/7. ?????????? True, plants are similar price to a bunch of flowers. Oh, maybe my jewel orchid needs a terrarium. Mine isn't growing after 2 years.

    Love that prices have gone down, now that I have purged some plants am now guilty of bringing new ones home. You should take us on a tour of some of the nurseries you highlighted today. And agree, yes, everyone should work in retail and the restaurant industry at least once in their lifetime to appreciate what it's like on the other side; I suspect people would be a lot kinder. Did you go to the Philadelphia Flower Show?

    Hi Nick! You found some great plants! I really appreciate the tip about using LECA in the bottom of cover pots to keep moisture to the plants. IF I decide to try a Rabbits Foot Fern again, I will try this. Love the terrarium with the Ludisia discolor var. nigrescens and Ficus repens 'Quercifolia'. I would love to have both of these plants! Those Hoyas are really pretty. Always up for a nice Hoya, at a decent price. Thank you so much for sharing!

  • @jomassey4207

    Loved the first one with patchwork pillow leaves.
    sorry I cannot remember it's name but it's going to be a stunner!
    It WOULD look best up a moss pole, maybe with some of your terrarium ficus, stuffed in-between the sphagnum to grow in peaceful harmony, as the head swaying, dude sings.
    Moral rebel, Jo🪴🌵🌿

    Idk if someone already commented about Sigilatis but as a Hoya collector. Sigilatis had so many varieties you could choose and the care almost the same. Just don't give it a bigger pot and wait about 3-4 days after it's dried out before you water them again

  • @oprofessionell
    @oprofessionell 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    The Ficus repens is easy to grow as long as it always has access to water, you can even grow it soil-less straight in water! Self-watering containers also work great. Just never let it dry out as it will become crunchy dead in a minute. Prefers rather strong light, will bleach but not burn in too-high intensity. Beware it likes to attach to surfaces and walls and will leave permanent marks. Very easy to propagate and can grow very quickly.

    Nice deal on the Begonia. Steve's Leaves has Begonia lanceolata and the similar Begonia herbacea. His story is the the names were switched in cultivation. By his naming convention you have the Begonia herbacea. I've had mine from him for over a year now. Easy to grow with no issues. Even propagated it from a leaf that fell off in shipping.

    Hey Nick, Snap! I got a Sigillatis yesterday too! The one that you have now is the same as mine and is the wide leaf form. That's probably why the leaves are much bigger than the one you had originally which I'm guessing must have been the narrow leaf. Mine was only £11 for a 12cm pot here in the UK 💚🌱💚

I just take out the rubbing alcohol to get those guys and give the whole plant a soap spray once in a while. Bugs are part of an ecosystem too. 😄

    Indecisive libra here too! Your sigilatis appears to look just like mine I picked up within the past couple months (in FL)- vines and leaves and all- there do seem to maybe be slightly different varieties bc I feel like some photos and peoples’ descriptions have been quite different. I’ve heard the leaves described as thin but mine feel mostly quite thick? But yours really looks nearly exactly like mine. About the same price too, between like $15-$22 - I bought several Hoyas around the time and don’t totally remember. Mine has been a bit slower to wake up and start growing- it was hardening off a new leaf when I got it and it’s just started to show some growth- although I did get it in December/“winter”(winter hardly counts as a Floridian.) Anyway I should finish the video but I like my sigi and want to sun stress it and I’m excited to see new growth and pleased you got one bc I like your taste. I don’t wanna deal with moss poles either and kind of avoid absolute climbers partially bc that. I may one day grab something that’s like already set up on a pole at a nursery but I don’t even know about that. Somehow lazy with over 100 plants and it works. I struggle a bit with begonias too. That is an interesting lil one.
