    Nice build! Just a suggestion,,, I think it will run smoother if you move the drive back so that it's center line is vertical. Think, steam locomotive where the piston is horizontal to the axils. Even without moving the drive it might improve by reversing the rotation.

    you could probably add sand to the hammer, deaden the sound and provide more hitting force. keep up the good work!

    does it still work? Did you have tom make any major changes? I'm gonna make one for my shop I'd like to know how your design holds up. Thanks!

    I like your build as you go approach based on the materials on hand. Your ram seems light. 40 pounds would be good, but to go with it, you need a post and anvil that is at least 10 times heavier than the ram, or 400 pounds. You can easily add weight to the beam you are using, just make sure that the added pieces extend all the way from the floor plate to the bottom of the anvil plate.. Thanks for posting, Jerry.

    Once you figure out the potentiometer, put it in a guitar volume pedal so you can control the power with your foot

    Dude you need to change your hammer and anvil base, for the same reason you don’t hit a hammer with a hammer. If they’re high-carbon/hardened steel they could possibly splinter, split, shatter or shoot a tiny shard into you. You don’t want to use hard steel for anything that will be under a lot of impact stress and temperature shock. It focuses too much stress in one spot for the steel to expand quick enough due to thermal expansion. Otherwise it’s a great backyard power hammer!

    Better get some grease in all the moving parts before you use it and you might want to hone that hammer shaft

    There's a couple of these built on you tube, to be honest they look terrible, noisy ,unreliable and short on power.
    Check out the home made pneumatic power hammer by Joshua De Lisle. its light years ahead.

    Whats the reason for the leaf spring?

    • @fixitwithbiskit
      @fixitwithbiskit  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's spring steel so it gives it more whip so it can hit harder and it does not bend very easy if you were to use regular mild Steel it would just bend spring steel retains its shape and can take a lot of abuse

      The motor is 2 and 1/2 horsepower variable speed I only have it turned up about a quarter of the way. I'm going to light my Forge pretty soon and test it out for real and we'll see thank you for your conversation keep it coming
