"I was tired tonight" doesn't sound correct. I believe it should have been, "I am tired tonight" or "I was tired last night" since it's speaking of a past event.

The expression 'good night' which is like 'bye!' explains why the earlier nights were off the chart. Night time was like rest time and it was expected that people should be resting. It was respected or doomed with different prepositions when referring to it.
