    I am Korg Fan ( M1, M50 and Kronos ) , but I have also the MOXF8. Each instrument has its own soul and sound. Great video to make your own decision to buy or not one or both. .

    always loved yamaha's custom fill in and backing track its so flexible, but krome has touch coloured screen therefore easier to edit

    This is a complete no brainer... The MOXF uses the exact same AWM2 Expanded Articulation synth engine as the Motif XF. That engine is a generation more advanced than the Enhanced Definition Synthesis engine that Korg uses in the Krome. That doesn't mean the Krome is a bad synth, (I own both, they both can sound great), but the MOXF tops the Krome in every sound category but one - The Piano. The sample set for the Krome piano is lifted right out of the Kronos, and it blows the MOXF right off the planet. Currently the Krome has what is most likely the second best sample-based piano available on a synth - only the SGX-2 engine on the Kronos tops it.
    If you want an "all-around" good synth with a fantastic piano sound, go with the Krome. If you don't care about the piano as much, the MOXF is the way to go.

      +looneyburgmusic I highly disagree with the Yamaha being a "complete no brainer". I like the Korg better on most of the examples here and especially hearing them in person. I liked the 12 string guitar better on the MOXF, slightly. You cannot go far wrong with either one, I own the Roland FA-06 and just ordered the Krome. I considered the MOXF as well but I went with the Krome.
      You cannot beat Krome's piano, that I agree with. I do like the key-feel a bit better on the MOXF, but I love the Korg sound. They are all good in their own way, that is for certain.

      @looneyburgmusic 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rick Simon I'm not knocking the Krome, (like I said, I own one), or the FA-06, (thinking about getting one), all I am saying is tech wise, of the three, the synth-engine in both versions of the XF is the most advanced, with the FA-06 and Krome more or less tied for second.

      +looneyburgmusic Gotta say I like the piano sound on the Yamaha better. Just goes to show that the tech specs don't always matter in the end to me at least it comes down to the sound

    • @looneyburgmusic
      @looneyburgmusic 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      csilt XF pianos are nice sounding to be sure, but the Krome piano really is better overall. You just can't get around the almost 3GBs of unlooped multi-layered samples...

    • @ricsim78
      @ricsim78 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      looneyburgmusic I know you did not, but I disputed you said it was a no brainer. I highly disagree, I own both the Roland FA-06 and just ordered the Korg Kross. I love Korg's sound, Yamaha sounds good but I think they have the weakest sounds (with exceptions) compared to Korg and Roland. I was between the FA-06, the Krome, the MOXF, MX61, and the Kross. I had the Krome ordered but cancelled it for the Kross. I was a small synth to compliment my FA-06, with the FA-06 being the full featured one and the Kross being lighter (on the second tier of my stand). I actually pulled the trigger on the Krome and ordered it, but had second thoughts and went with the Kross. Saved money, just as good sound quality (some say it is closer to Kronos sound than the Krome), lighter, can run on batteries, and has General Midi level 2, just like my Roland.
      We all have different tastes and favorites, but there is no such thing as no brainers when it comes to keyboards IMO. There are many models to choose from, something for everyone, and often you have to buy multiple to get the sound and features you want. I think Korg beats all on most stuff, Roland has the weakest drums (but from the Fantom up, they are good as well) but has the best pads and synth sounds (usually). Yamaha has the most nuisance and processing, but to me, Korg rules all when it comes to the soundset as a whole. Some of the older Korg keyboards have just mediocre pianos (like my Korg NS5R module), but now I think they have by far the best piano sounds.
      To each their own, I respect your opinion and not arguing it. Just we have a different opinion on what sounds best.

    The sound on youtube is not meant to decide to purchase a keyboard!
    You have to go to the store to test the equipment plugged into an amplified good quality.
    When lassoed the Roland Juno Di went in the store to buy a v had seen the videos on youtube and I was excited because it was so cheap.
    testing in the shop it sounded beautiful on the headphone, but the test in an amplified disappointed as the sound was lean and fat free. Iagual the Roland Juno G that used borrowed by a friend. Beautiful but without impact to play in a band sounds ... And to me it's no use the keyboard have a cute and tidy sound but get deleted with no impact or a trial gig with the band.

      I hope you are right, I ordered a KromeEx yesterday (because I'm kind of Korg fan so it never crossed in my mind to check out any other brands), but after watching some comparisons I am now quite disappointed with Korg, I hope my mind change back for good when I plug it at home with a nice pair of speakers. Fingers crossed.

    I have owned the MOXF8 for 4 years and today I just bought the Korg Krome 88. Basically in search of more sounds for producing music in my DAW. The Moxf8 knocks the Korg Krome out on many fronts especially around realistic sounds based on what am hearing here. I would not conclude too far yet until I try out both. I just unpacked the Krome and set it up and was just curious and so I searched for comparisons. Am happy these two workstations would provide me with tons of diverse sounds in addition to my huge VST instruments like Kontakt, Halion, XPand, Reason 11, Falcon, Korg Triton vst, and many others. I want to use these workstation sounds as foundational to productions and complement them with the VSTs to get a richer sound. I dont like using the VSts alone cos they sound very light and I have to do tons of EQing to get them a bit realistic. With workstation sounds you have more analog saturation and realism.

    • @miguelrejas5034
      @miguelrejas5034 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      No my friend.. maybe you are not updated.. Kurzweil has always been a Huge in "real sounds" the triple strike piano, at its moment, was legendary.. also, it is used in some recordings.. but orchestra sounds are worldwide recognized as the best of the best.. this is not my taste..is also opinions of people who deal daily with tasting and writing press notes... the new Forte has the best quality sound piano on market as good or better than Nord.. the Roland V-piano is a luxury of 6grand..but is considered the ultimated piano from Roland.. believe me.. Korg nor Yamaha are close to these 3 bad asses!!! Get a try on a dealer.. and you may back to write friend.. if you do so...and you are still in your position.. I will shut up.. ;) God bless you!

    • @guilhermenunes935
      @guilhermenunes935 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      miguel rejas I have a Kurzweil SP88 and Kurzweil SP4-8. In neither recognize sounds higher than the Korg and Yamaha. (Only some organs, strings and pianos). I confess, I know these new lines of Kurzweil. (PC Line, Strong and etc. Roland V-Piano is really sensational, perhaps the biggest balcony of Roland today.
      But is personal, do not fit me Kurzweil let alone Yamaha. I'm still with the Korg and Nord.
      If you can not understand, forgive my English. I am Brazilian.
      Hug, God bless you.

    • @miguelrejas5034
      @miguelrejas5034 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Guilherme Nunes I understand perfectly my friend, and I won't disagree with you.. ok? I have played sin early eighties many brands and models, I have classical piano studies and I actually love synths and workstations, Korg released wonderful machines suc Korg Triton, Karma, Extreme, TR, Wavestation, I am a big fan of Korg, indeed I prefer playing PAseries for arrangers above any other brand...but to my personal consideration, Before Nord came to mainstream.. therer were some other brands as Kawai, Akai, Smith's, Novation II, Emax, Emu Systems, Kurzweil, Moog, Lynn, Ensoniq, GEM, and so... Korg after the Triton family.. concentrated in minis and arrangers, when released King Korg, they said a response for an analogue modeling (Alesis Andromeda) and have to say that.. simply a Yamaha Anx1 or Cnx2 would shut this "king" up!! after that the "K TRILOGY" Kross, Krome and Kronos.. I am not saying are garbage..NO they are not at all!! but, after sometime on the market, in Lima Perú (where I'm writing) many musicians are selling these models, almost NEW!! krome & kronos... in the other hans a Motif is highly required and nobody let a Motif go.. if you understand.. is not that we cannot deal with tech.. coz is not, but I'm telling you.. key bed, key action, layout of controls, the thick curve of knowledge in order to really use the potential of the machine, plus sound.. are considerations we are evaluating.. again, they are not bad, but for me, Yamaha, and Kurzweil even Roland (despite the plastic sound of the Fantom Series) are over Korg..my friend. I'll respect your feelings..but I will not share them, Blessings!

    Good demo of two excellent boards. I like some Yamaha sounds and some Korg sounds. To me, when comparing these workstations (expensive or mid range) I tend to take a different approach.
    I am more concerned with functionality. All of these workstations have some fantastic sounds and some not so good. Big deal. In today's world of music tech there are so many available sounds via expansion slots (if the boards offer them) or with the connection of an iPad or computer running plugins. Some of these VST sound sets are not too expensive and can add tremendous value to a keyboard rig, whether you play live or only use it in the studio.
    So to me sounds should NOT be the only reason to buy a workstation, and in some cases sounds should be a ways down the ladder. If the keyboard is just a synth (not workstation) then sounds matter. If it's an analog board, circuitry and build matter, which leads to sounds. With a workstation it's all about functionality to me.
    Most people that use workstations build songs, use them to create ideas that will be further enhanced later on within a larger setup of more keyboards or a full MIDI DAW rig. Some use workstations to build large combis/performances for live playback. Some are looking for excellent programming of sounds. I tend to use the workstation as a beginning to song/score writing. I love to sit at a keyboard and generate ideas. Those ideas then get flushed out and then moved to a DAW for mix-down, larger tracking options, more sounds, and ultimately mastering. When I consider those needs, the Korg Krome completely OUTSHINES the Yamaha MOX. Much better screen, sequencer, better editing tools, better combi programming experience and power, amazing effects editing and implementation. Ease of use with the control panel and touch screen. The piano roll editor and other tracking options on the Krome are just light years beyond the Yamaha.
    The Yamaha is a tremendous board for live performance and for generating some ideas via sequencer. But it's small screen, lack of touch ability, inability to see more data on the page, it's effects parameters, and it's massive amount of buttons on the front panel make it much less viable for writing, composing, arranging, editing. So if sounds are your thing and you play live, get the Yamaha, but I'd go with a straight up synth, like the MX. If you really need a workstation, then in this price range there are 2 options in my opinion. 1) Korg Krome, 2) Roland FA

    It is not very objective comparing synth sounds as both instruments are synthetizers and you can edit voices to match each other perfectly if you have time and knowledge. It's just the way manufacturer made the presets. You should compare samples like acoustic grand piano, acoustic guitar, instruments that you want to simulate, not those you generate with synth engine.

    I have this Yamaha and am quite happy with the touch of the weighted keys and the Sonics. Some features are easy to use, others i found to be somewhat cumbersome. I don’t play it often enough because I am never home.
    The user interface is a bit sad, but it wasn’t the main selling point for me either.
    The Korg sounds really nice too. Not sure how the keys feel, but seems very similar. I would be happy to own both I am sure, but I think I prefer the Yamaha for sound.

    I own the Krome. But, it was really tough to make the decision on which of these two I wanted to purchase. I liked the touch screen for editing. I also liked the Pianos and EP's. Yamaha's synths were a little better than Korg's but, they are not bad. You have a very nice workstation with which ever you choose.

    I noticed when you are doing "Just The Two Of US" on the Krome88 you have a drum/bass beat going on while you are playing some rhythm voicings and leads over top of it with the patch "Wurly Time". If so, how do you activate a drum loop/bass rhythm accompaniment if you just want accompaniment behind some piano you are playing say like you did with Just The Two Of Us. You did a great job on that song by the way.

    I've owned a Krome 61 for about 4 years and have been happy but somewhat frustrated with it. The problem is using it in live performance--it's very hard to quickly and reliably switch patches, everything I've tried is sort of a workaround and prone to embarrassing failure on the gig. If I were doing it again today, I'd buy the MOXF6 with it's "real" mechanical switches rather than touch screen.
    While the color display is great if you're going to do editing on the keyboard, most people use computers for that anyway and upload it to the synth. And no one in their right mind is going to do it during a performance.

    I think everyone is forgetting one important factor. That the MOXF8 has the ability to load flash and data. The Korg Krome doesn't, so if you guys don't like any of the factory sounds then you can always add more sounds. 1 GB worth of sounds, its almost like having a keyboard inside a keyboard.

    This is really really difficult. They both sound incredible, let's be honest. They also both have their own strengths and weaknesses I feel. The first few patches, the Yamaha seemed to be winning clearly, then all of a sudden when it was the piano shoot out, the Korg was miiiiiiles better sounding. Perhaps the yamaha's synth engines are better and the PCM data in the Korg's is where they shine? Then the guitar, and it was the Yammy again. Back and forth back and forth from then on.... Might genuinely have to buy both lol. Great video and playing by the way, extremely useful! Thanks :)

    I myself personally have a moXF6, i play the sound trough my HS7 monitors by yamaha too. I love the sound of it, acoustic pianos, fm pianos, ep pianos, sax, brass ect. I have not use the expansion slot, reason is that i havent bought the expansion yet. One thing i don't like that much is the key action, for studio is good but for live performance is not that great. Ive tried the weighted action before of the moXF8 and i think its good but not perfect. If you think in buying this board i recommend to get the 88 version instead. Or if you want the 61 save up some money and get the motif xf 61 instead.

    • @MrMy05
      @MrMy05 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, sorry for my late reply. Yes, i would. Every day of the week actually. If you are performance oriented, then you'll surely like what the moxf has to offer in that area such as performance and master mode alone. The keyboard is by no means a suberb one (there are better one out there without question) but in comparion to the Krome, it is like entering heaven for sure. I liked some of the sounds on the Krome (Pianos were superb, some EPs as well) but the rest... not so much. MOXF is way better sound quality-wise in comparison with the Krome, thats my opinion. Now, i also own a Triton (with 2 expansions + Moss) and i was struck with the fact that the Krome re-used some many Triton sounds.... Triton is quite old as you know, but still it had lots of sounds from it (which of course means that the Triton still "kicks it" in many ways. The keyboard feel of the Triton is fantastic for synth-key feel....).
      Sure, the Krome enables you to load the M1 soundset and one other (as i recall) and they sound great, but then why not buy the M1 to start with??
      Moxf has the edge all the way. Arpeggios, sound quality, even better keybed (and it's not great on the moxf, but way better then on the Krome), EFX on more parts, etc. No brainer imho.

    Hey guys. The main issue is that Krome whith his great general quality sounds it has not "real sounds". In fact i've bought one a couple weeks ago and i'm very frustrated because i've a Korg PA600 and it has a far way better and realistic sound in almost all instruments. I think Moxf is a superior product concerning to realism of the sound. I hope this can help some people to take their decision.

      Yes! I think after the Triton Series (except for the Pa series) Korg have not released anything new or interesting!! the Kross.. lame! Krome (mini Kronos) the last two have poor action, (sticky keys and stiffy action), krome, has not (really) good sounds..and their new piano... it's so metalic! just Yamaha wins in this. Now if you compare orchestra sounds from Kurzweil to Krome... this second will pale! and new piano samples on Forte "literaly" destroy any improved sound here. Going beyond taste, I have collected many experienced pro guys comments, and besides that, I tried them all! The Kronos is meant to be a "beast" with its 9 sound engines!! but, the curve of learning to get accostumed to the use of their 9 engines and to learn how to manipulate the entire machine.. is what people today hesitate and end with offering them on the Web, besides, the action key is stiffed or sticky..so, may sound just ok for the home average customers, "but Jordan play it.. he has one Kronos in his lab" (Oh well, all is about business today right?) Peace.

    Hello, i am quite confused of the workstation i would like to get. I love vintage sounds like mellotron, electric pianos, hammond, etc but mixed with new synth sounds, the idea is making some electro indie music such as Tame Impala, which one would you recommend me? thanks in advance

    Apples and oranges, really. Pad is better on MOXF but it's a different pad with a slower attack. I've owned Korg Trinity and Korg Triton. Now I own an MOXF8. Why? It's a better keyboard for the money. It's really close in sound quality despite less sample memory, and serves as a controller for my DAW. Plus the arpeggios are really awesome. But that won't stop me from getting a Korg down the road. They're both legendary synth makers.

    What is that song called played on the piano sounds @1:50? Very 80's from memory.
    I have the Krome, ep's and synth better on Korg but acoustic sounds better on Yamaha as I expected, the Yamaha probably has better organs than the krome.

  • @nickydp1322
    @nickydp1322 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The ONLY things you should pay attention to when comparing sound and nothing else are the piano, guitar, and violin samples. all the others you can find a way to manipulate so each make the exact same synth sounds. Piano samples, for example, are recorded from actual pianos, so you should compare those types of sounds recorded from organic instruments. I like Korg's piano samples :)

    Being a longtime Korg fan, I would have to say on this demo that the Yamaha sounded fuller more polished on all the sounds, with the exception of the piano. However, with some tweaking of the sounds (where the Korgs are easier to edit in my opinion), you could probably get some awesome sounds out of this workstation.

      I'm really torn between these two workstations...I plan on using a wide array of sounds and effects...but pads, strings, leads and piano sounds are the most imporant to me. The Krome interface with the touchscreen looks very appealing but I hear complaints about the keybed (might just get the 88 instead of 61 because of this), and the sounds on moxf8 just sound better....what do you think?

    The XF has the Krome beat in the area of Arps. It just runs circles around the rather straight forward Korg. The XF's shortcomings are mildly concerning, but for sheer capability, (if not the darn aggravatingly constant need to press loud clicky buttons...aaaarggh!...) the XF would be my choice. I owned a MO6 some years ago and found that navigating around the keyboard menus, punching in new tone names and assigning effects in various modes was frustrating and awkward and unintuitive. What was most frustrating with that keyboard was the fact that I could not assign some effects to single tracks and voices while in record mode. Navigating Yamaha workstations and being surprise at what the keyboards CAN'T do are the things that make me hesitate to buy another Yamaha. Hellooooo Roland FA!

    I love korg, always introducing new gadgets, analog volcas, electribes, kaoss pads, ms-20 mini, they have a nice keytar coming out too. But when it comes to romplers, yamaha is still the better one.
    Korg seems to be focusing on different things.

    How many arpeggios can simultaneously run in both Korg Krome and Yamaha Moxf?
    And does Korg Krome have an option to change drumming pattern/rhythm like Moxf?

    • @Charlyaraya
      @Charlyaraya 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Shoumik Chowdhury only two arpeggio on krome that can be eddited on real time, yamaha has slots for every instrument when playing performance songs. You cannot change drum on krome on real time but you can use rppt on sequencer and krome drums patterns are really intuitive. You can change the patterns on yamaha on real time and i think it has 6 different ones per program. All these changes are easier to do in Krome since it has a great touch screen, i understand thst yamaha is really complicated to edit, hope it helps

    Why is the reverb disabled on the Korg but lush on the Yamaha ? Yamaha has always had great epianos and strings, Korg has a better Grand piano and great brass. One of each in your rig is ideal. They're both great synth makers.

    One of the most important things. Is the key action, which is far better on the yamaha. I'm going with not just sounds but key action. The keys on the krome wiggle. That's a deal breaker. Welcome moxf8 yamaha great job! :)

  • @paulfearn4070

    I thought long and hard between the krome moxf and the fa08.. the roland was no comparison to the korg or yamaha.. the yamaha does sound great but the korg is awsome.. the best thing though is using it live and the ease of programming with the large screen.. the keybed is not a kronos but is ok.. in mono sounds a bit weak only issue. .

  • @paddlehard5722
    @paddlehard5722 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm not sure about Yamaha, but Korg can vastly alter each sound by your command. If you want it harsh, you tweak it that way. If you want it soft, you tweak it to soften. So, I doubt this comparison is valuable for that matter. But there are many other aspects of beneficial features to compare. Like touchscreen, memory, looping, simplicity...

      I dare you to match Yamaha's (Voodoo Man) against any & all guitar sounds on any board out, it will blow you away . I have a Triton pro, & used to have the Yamaha S80, even then, the Yamaha sounds blew my Triton out the water ( even with 2 expansion boards) ! So imagine what the now discontinued S90 series & Motif would do ?! I am starting a new hobby collecting keyboard/workstations in about 2 months to add with my Triton . I'm buying the Kurzweil PC3K8 & the Yamaha MOFX8, I also want the Roland FA08, but promised my daughter a Fender American (Elite) Jazz bass, so I'll get the Yamaha & Kurzweil b4 they are discontinued .

    I thought the MOX8's patches were nominally better and more full sounding. However, the Korg had a slightly superior acoustic piano sound. the touch screen in my opinion is nice, but nothing that I would ever use as an excuse to spend $200 extra for. Korgs haven't exactly been known to have the best feeling keys especially compared to higher-end Yamahas. That is just my opinion though. Also my opinion: both instruments are very appealing to the eye, but I would give a very slight edge on looks to the Korg. The red on the MOX is pretty neat, and I would like to think both would add some major fashion souls, but ultimately the Korg looks a tad bit more professional.
    Overall, I think I would rather have the MOX8 for my personal and professional use at this stage of my musical career. anybody wanna spot me $1,700? (-:

    Loved the "Back to the Future Theme" ending...
    I just saw another head-to-head video with the MOXF6 and an FA-06, and it wasn't even a contest; the MO totally dominated.
    This one's not as easy. It seemed like a draw in some areas, but at the end I just thought the MO had just enough of an edge over the Krome that it pulled ahead. Especially the acoustic pianos; Korg's good, but they're not known for their acoustic pianos. Yamaha is.
    Personally, if I had to pay for one, I'd have to get the MO, but if someone were to give me either one, I wouldn't feel cheated that I didn't get the other :)
