Considering the guy had such a huge following it's time the local council made a proper memorial for fans to visit and pay their respects. People come from all parts of the world and I'm sure they are surprised when they arrive and see this small stone.
Enquanto existir fãs ouvindo suas músicas, Ian, você estará sempre vivo, não será esquecido jamais...viva o Joy Division, excelente banda, fizeram um ótimo trabalho
Miss you Ian I've epilepsy too and I'm dealing with it the best that I can I don't know how much longer I can hang on depression sucks but one of this days
Ian Curtis probably wouldn't have worried about a huge monument marking his life upon earth. His spirit/soul is gone but Ian Curtis is everywhere in music, books, videos, documentaries, etc, etc, etc yet the most important place is within our minds, Ian Curtis has become immortal. I feel sad when watch his videos and never read about him because i can't, to sad for me and feel a connection of sorts. Mentioned somewhere below complaints of empty beer cans etc, left on his marker, many an old friend or fan has possibly visited and drank the beer in honor of a lost mate, tipped a little on his mark and of course leave the can there to show their tribute to him, understand? I and friends have done the same to mates who've passed on and don't despair, it's not disrespect, people simply express emotions differently than others. Apologies if said to much. Peace.
Of course it was a rainy day... So many times I've come close to doing it, and was glad I didn't. Maybe I did in other worlds and maybe Ian didn't. Life is tragic, maybe the life after isn't. I sure hope so. But good job on the vid and the musical selection.
I like it the way it is...its understated, and Joy Division and New order were always understated, not flash, down to earth...and if you are like that when you are alive, why should people change it when you die....he was pretty anonymous when he died, and not making much money, and the stone reflects that...all the fuss came after he died...personally I think he would like that people left beer cans and train tickets...its like saying, "Hello mate, I've come to see you, whether you know it or not....and here's my little memento for you so you know somebody bothered to come." And the family can see those things too and they know he is not forgotten
Did you get to Macc? I grew up in Wilmslow from 1962 to 1990. I used to use a recording studio in Macclesfield - We met Joy Division there a couple of times but did not know them well. Happy days, brilliant musicians, sad loss. RIP Ian.
Before I read the comments I thought "Wow. Im impressed nobody tried to steal the grave. I have faith in humanity!". side note, he made a profound impact on people. Myself included. Id like to pay my respects some day
It is incredible that the memory of an artist like Ian Curtis is not adequately honored by his city. If you listen to his music and his lyrics after so many years, is there a reason?
A tragic, tragic lad but so very talented. The sad thing is that mental health wasn't even though about in the late 70s and into the 80s so he had nowhere to go for help. The lads in Joy Division didn't understand until after the event they actually read the lyrics of Ian's songs and realised he was singing about himself and his struggles.
Don't be, how some people cope and give a tribute. Maybe and old fan or friend "shares" a beer. Tips a little on the marker and toasts to Ian and the cans left behind as a tribute, no other reason...
Sad that the site is so unkempt and messy. Was he cremated? I don't understand why his family resorted to having a falling apart stone with just his date of death on it and not a proper resting place like the rest of the cemetary.
I wish he knew just how important he was to so many of us...

That was my key ring that I left the year before. It's in the documentary, near the end. Weird.
