Nice relaxed and thoughtful review. I flew in these out of the College of Air Training at Hamble back in the early sixties. Happy days. Must add this aircraft to my collection. Thank you.

Another great video, Rich. I think you've captured the essence of the aircraft as it reminded me of my Air Cadet days. I remember being surprised that my pilot was a 60yo+ but only a flying officer (actually a retired Air Commodore!)
The sensation of flying in the chipmunk was awesome. The pilot offered aerobatics and I accepted delightfully. Such a great experience.

Thanks. yes it brings back memories of waddling out to a Chipmunk as an Air Cadet with a parachute strapped to one's backside. :-)

Me too, great memories as a young air cadet with 35 Pegasus Squadron, Wetherby. Dressed in fight gear, with a parachute on my back I looked like a turtle clambering into a plane!

Awesome, I purchased the DHC1 and the Bubble Canopy Addon when it came out. I'm only just getting around to having a go! Thanks for the video, I couldn't find how to get ground power! Now I can start up! Thanks again.

Very enjoyable. I was selected nav back in 1956 and on our course the pilots went right on to harvards. Later, doing aan air show at centralia ' I spoke to friends who were instructing on the airplane, It just caused me a bit more resentment. I did final learn to fly gliders and cessnas and will give this one a try cheers

Can you make a review about the Atlas Cheetah from the SAAF?(don't care which model)

Hi, I've got quite a few things ongoing at the moment, but I'll have a look if I get the time. Nice looking aircraft though.

Thanks. It's not got the most exact model or flight characteristics, but it's close enough and it's amazing fun to fly VFR. I keep going back to it when I just want to cruise round the skies for a few minutes.

If you put the aircraft on its side, pull back the stick fully... keep going and eventually the whole craft will start shaking. I remember doing that and seeing oxford through a hole in the clouds. That was takeoff from RAF Benson.

I've seen some pretty incredible freeware. Some stuff from Classic Wings and Golden Age Simulations is good.

Great review. I like the fact that you are able to compare the simulation with your real life experiences. Can you tell me what ground scenery you used?

    • @flightsim481
      @flightsim481  9 ปีที่แล้ว

I'm not 100% sure, but I think it's stock FSX scenery with UK VFR airfields from UK2000 Scenery. Glad you enjoyed it :-)

At the beginning of the take off roll you mention it needs right rudder. Was this due to a crosswind? Because the Chipmunk needs LEFT rudder at full power; the prop turns in the opposite direction to typical US aircraft.I wonder if the developers got that detail right. I flew one for the first time only last week and its handling is simply superb, but it could use more power.

they gave a little piece of paper to write down what aeros you want to do... someone wrote "loop, stall turn, barrel roll, parachute jump" on mine and i didn't notice the jump bit... I gave that to the pilot and he was... hmmm... slightly hesitant to take off!... kept saying "I'm not taking off if you're going to try to leave the aircraft in the air!" :) I did manage to convince him it was a joke, thankfully.

Hi as usual I'm late posting a comment A good video I have this aircraft. In my youth it was used by the Air Cadets as a trainer
Have you tried A2As Accu-feel It works on most aircraft and improves wind, stall, sound, etc.

thanks, an iconic training aircraft of which many Air Cadets (myself included) will have had their first flights. I distinctly recall waddling out to the aircraft like a lame duck with a parachute dangling from my bum. I have yet to try Accu-feel though.

I have this plane, but I can't get it to display in fsx steam. It show in the select plane menu window, but when I go to fly the plane is not there, inside or outside views. In fact no control input either, any ideas would be great, just like your videos.
    Thanks in advance.

Sorry, but all I can suggest is a re-install or possibly posting on the Just Flight or Steam forums.
You also need simconnect installed which the Steam version does not do by default. Step 1 of this link shows where to find the installer.

      Hope that helps
