Hello Sir. Am watching your video with much interest as I am not a pilot (my background is ATC) but am an avid flight sim enthusiast. Wonder if you might consider making another similar video, maybe from Welshpool, or somewhere with some terrain to consider, but the video to be based on EFATO procedures when planning to fly VFR at night in a single ? Glad to have you back making videos again - missed your content.
Thank you for the kind words, they are much appreciated. Regarding EFATO at night in a single piston, your options are really, really limited and I have always found that all the training was always during daylight. During a take off, if the engine fails, they always say not to turn back to the field but at night it may be your only option, particularly in a hilly valley. I must admit, as a pilot, it's not something I would have relished.
One big difference nowadays is there are hundreds of wind generators all over the countryside. Usually on high ground. All have red fixed lights on the generator box. These show in MSFS and are on OS maps. If you use LittleNavMap (to check your accuracy) these are marked on it.
@@flightsim481 give it a go Rich. The road detail alone is up to date and superb. There are so many map functions, distance and bearing and if you have a flight plan loaded in, it will provide winds aloft at each waypoint!
Although it doesn't affect the excellent video, I think Chivenor airfield is closed. Maybe Matthew Martin knows for sure. It showed as closed on the 2020 half a million, but I haven't bought edition 47 yet, so maybe it has changed, and has re-opened for GA - I doubt it, though. I tried the trip, also at night, in X-Plane (with Orbx TE), as a poster did below, and found it very easy to just follow the M5 to the airport - and you can pick that motorway up close to Tiverton or Wellington!
Thanks for the kinds words, much appreciated. MSFS, and for that matter sims using ORBX True Earth, really are a joy to use in VFR so it is a crying a shame when so many people launch straight up to FL350.
Thank you for a great video. I learned some useful tips. Although it looks pretty, I find the night illumination in MSFS still way, way too bright and too dense. For me, XP with Orbx TrueEarth is still the standard for realistic night flights. Still, Asobo want to keep the 'game' features so I suppose it makes sense not to make it look too realistic.
Your indicated speed was 100KN IAS, from a glance at your panel the true air speed was a little slower - maybe 90 KN. I think an IAS of ~112 KN would be about right. That may explain while you appeared behind the schedule.
I'd forgotten about the altitude impact for the relationship between IAS and TAS. At constant IAS, as altitude increases, TAS increases by 2% per 1000'. So 100 knots IAS would be 109 kts TAS. As you say, that may well have been the issue but my True Airspeed would have been 9% greater than my indicated. Thanks, Rich
Nicely flown. Question: Are you still annoyed by the yaw dartiness in almost anything but perfectly still air? Oh, and n.b., I think you've got some stray audio track near the end.
Thanks. Yes, the wayward nose movement is still distracting although I have to say it varies with each aircraft and update of the sim. The JF Arrow is currently the best ga for the sim at the moment.
That’s what I call flying. Thank you and well done.
Thankyou for the kind words, much appreciated
Great super clear video - love this VFR and other skills type of film! More please, starting with a chart/map and then flying the VFR. Thanks
Thanks for the kind words, greatly appreciated and I'm glad I you enjoyed the video :-)

Another great video again, and from my local airfield this time. Perfect 😁
Lovely part of the world to fly around, I must say. Thanks for the support.

Thanks. I don't use little nav map but it sounds really useful.

Thanks for the kind words. Yes I believe Chivenor is closed but we can play that it's open in sim world :-)
Great video as always really enjoy your vfr and ifr videos would definitely like to see more

I agree with you. I like vfr in all 3 sims .I'm not a big jet man I'm afraid
Last time i was this early, TH-cam was in 360p. I see not much has changed...

Thanks and I know what you mean, likewise there is little variation in light intensity IMHO.
