    This week's fabric haul comes with mixed emotions as I am not thrilled about sewing with knits.
    These projects, with the exception of the linen animal print, will help me to embrace knits, and I might be encouraged to include more in my sewing plans.
    Hopefully, the serger will get used in the process of creating these garments.

    I pre-washed my wool fabric and it shrank 6" lengthwise. Glad that I washed it before sewing with it. When I learned how dirty fabric is, I started washing everything. Since I only sew with natural fibers, I make sure that I get things right the first time because linen and wool is not cheap.

      Yes, great habit and I agree. Linen and wool are expensive fabric.
      I don't normally wash my wool and linen. I dry clean those. I wanted to do the same for the ponted but was not willing to waste money on something I could do but it should have been done first. Lesson learned.
      Thanks for watching.

      @@cookeka Just curious, most dress pants have a large hem allowance. Do you have enough hem on your pants to extend the length?

    Love love love the Simplicity very casual half zio dress! Its perfect for everyday wear , for running to the store, for meeting friends for a casual lunch / coffee It has more panache than a simple T shirt dress, Love that pattern, its a must try!

    Karon, you have the most lovely ideas for pattern and fabric matching! You always inspire me❤. So sorry to hear your favorite pants shrunk😕. After I open new fabric I surge the cut edges, tie off and into the laundry it goes. Don’t be discouraged with knits, it does take some practice. For knit dressier pants I always surge the edges of all the seams without trimming anything off before sewing any seams. Sew my final seams with a small 0.5 /2.5 zigzag stitch and press open. I often use a twin needle for the hem. Once you get more comfortable with your serger it is life changing!😊

      @ Of course! I was afraid of my serger too. In fact I left it in the box for months🤦🏻‍♀️. Just serging my new fabric before washing gave me lots of practice to the sound, feel and cadence of it. Now I couldn’t sew without one!

    Karen, please give the water soluble tape from Wawak, for your dress pattern with the zipper. I know you have the skill to go for it. I will anxiously wait and watch for your garment. Thank you for producing such wonderful videos each week, without fail. Can you post, where you shop for your buttons.

    If ever I get the urge to sew before washing I don’t put the garment in the dryer I let it hang dry. The majority of the shrinkage occurs when drying.

      I totally agree that the dryer will shrink your garments.

    I have heard you talk about purchasing fabric from Moods, which I believe is on-line shopping. Are they true to the fabric described on their website.

    • @cookeka
      @cookeka  5 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I have had great experiences with their fabric. You may need to view the fabric on two sources to see the true color as various devices may show a different view.

      @cookeka I'm a touchy/ feel fabric shopper. I check color/print with my skin tone. But I'm willing to give it a try. I used to watch Project Runway and the contestants shopped at Mooxs.
