Anyway such a beautiful song and Suresh Wadkar's smooth voice. The lyrics are so simple and so poetic. Think Naseeruddin Shah and Saeed Jaffrey make a great onscreen friends couple :-)

Naseer’s first credited movie Nishant (if i am not wrong) was also with Shabana Azmi along with Smita Patil. So i guess we can say he debuted with her.
This is just a general observation. A great actor's acting capabilities can be seen in even the simplest of acts. But they don't get the appreciation for their simple acts until they do something groundbreaking. Once they become huge, their simple acts start getting appreciation as well. Most of the time actors get recognition after something huge happens for example an extraordinary character or a brilliant movie or just a complex scene whether in a movie or a t.v. serial. I like to appreciate the actors even in the simplest of scenes if I come across them. Sometimes the little things wow me. I hope we appreciate the actors even before they do a complex character or a complex scene etc. Because I'm not sure if every talented actor or actress is lucky enough to get that groundbreaking role or movie or something else. I don't know if I'm making sense to anyone lol. But just wanted to say it.
Calling this “middle-class” is ridiculous beyond words. This whole pseudo-western milieu - the attire, the drinking, the party setup, the dancing - is all - one imagines - was confined to the very well off upper crust in Mumbai/Delhi
This was quite a sweet film. A re-make of Man Woman And Child. The child in it was gorgeous and stole my heart. From the same director (his 1st film) - Shekhar Kapoor of Bandit Queen & Elizabeth.
Rick and Korbin, gentlemen first things first. This was a very well spoken and thought thru review. Yes there is a disparity between what you read out about the song at the beginning of the video and what you saw. The party scene that we see is not quintessentially "middle class India" but what we call as "upper middle class India". This film was released in 1983, that makes it four decades old. The crux of the film is still relevant and shall continue to be so for long. Much has changed culturally in India since then. However, the people (characters) we see in the song here are upwardly mobile, well heeled, who know how to enjoy life. In the song the two friends sing while starts by addressing their wives also is flirtatious and teasing towards the women in the room in a well intended way so as not to hurt anyone's sensibilities least of all that of their spouses. Naseer gets his wife Shabana to dance with him which is only fair in this strata of society and not in front of a room full of ogling men. Shabana understands the playfulness of her husband and so does Jaffri's wife Tanuja (we see Shabana and Tanuja in the same frame @ 3:01) when these two men at times dance with other ladies as well. The line actually goes addressing the lady/ ladies "huzoor" which loosely translates as "your highness" and tells them not to let their "aanchal" (the loose end of the sari wrapped on a lady's shoulder) float so that it does not raise a flutter in the hearts of men. Overall it leaves a very "feel good" feeling which in no way is outlandish or insulting to women now nor was it then. And finally, Naseeruddin Shah, Shabana Azmi, Saeed Jaffri and Tanuja are mildly put, brilliant actors. They have always carried their roles effortlessly whether in arthouse movies or rank commercial cinema.
Dont just watch the songs but watch the full movie masoom. It is such a beautiful movie that i have watched it several times and it still touches my heart everytime i watch it. Everyone is commenting about the superb performances of the lead pair but i think the kids acting has outdone the lead pair also. You will love it.
Sir Saeed Jaffrey has to be respected for his acting which the Europeans acknowledged but, Indians still have to pay their homage to. All 3 are legendary in their own rights(Mr. Saeed Jaffrey, Mr. Naseeruddin Shah & Ms. Shabana Azmi)
