The Vin Scully of Hockey. A class act on and off the ice. Two fine gentlemen who were both the best at what they did and never upstaged the game. We were lucky to hear them in our lifetime. Thanks Doc. Best Wishes. It was truly our pleasure.

A sad day for hockey fans... Doc has been a big reason as to why I watch hockey and am such a fan, a fantastic announcer and person. I can't say how lucky us Bruins fans were to have him for every playoff series during our run last year. Hopefully I can get to meet him someday as he's been a hero for the game. Enjoy your retirement Doc!

Once I heard his voice, the electricity of the game was sensational. In the middle of the chaos in front of the net my favorites were - "What a sport!", "I DO love this game". I live in Hershey, PA now and know Doc has roots here with the Bears. But, his heart was with the game and hockey really is one of the last highly competitive and pure sports left. Doc was a huge part of defining it on TV for us. Thanks Doc. And... NBC, you have assembled one of the best line ups in sports with your NHL Coverage. Hope you have the courage to bring Mike Milbury back.

Thanks for making a game I knew nothing about (since I grew up in the South) and for making hockey sound brutally elegant and "sophisticatingly" simple. Growing up in Vancouver, we didn't have any NBC sports programming. However, one year during the playoffs, I was in NYC with family. When I tuned in, I was met with Doc's voice for the first time. He had this electricity to his tone that I honestly found kind of annoying at first, but the more I listened the more it grew on me. Eventually, I would even watch NBC games just to listen to his commentary. While these days I still mostly watch Sportsnet and national broadcasts, he will always be one of the greats in my mind. Doc Emerick is one of the greatest play by play commentators. I really respect him a lot and I will miss hearing his enthusiasm in the Stanley cup playoffs. NBC picks their best play by play commentators with al micheals and doc emerick. Hockey is truly one of the greatest sports ever created. I think American football and hockey are the best sports in the world though
