I had a friend who was kind of a stalker (more possessive) and he had a huge crush on me since 4th grade (now entering 9th grade) and I told him we were just friends..the older we got, the worse he was. He would always get mad if I didn't answer right away, and he would blow up my phone. Then, when I would confront him about it, he would get mad at me. He would ask me out all the time, then when I said no, he would yell at me, insult me, and act like everything was my fault (he even claimed he wanted to commit suicide because I didn't want to date him) And I was nice to him, and gave him chance after chance, because I was afraid of losing one of my only friends. By 7th grade, I started getting cute boys to notice me, which resulted in a relationship, and every time he would insult me, yell at me, and act like everything he was feeling was my fault, and so on. He would even try to start fights with that boyfriend I was with. I would cry all the time because of him, and it didn't help how my family members would try to romanticise his toxic, possessive behaviour, and call it "cute". He was so toxic I actually started thinking dark thoughts...finally, the summer after 7th grade, we moved an hour away from my old town. I talked to him a little bit throughout the summer, but then I realised that he was really toxic, so I cut him off..but it didn't stop there. He would make new accounts, new numbers, anything to get a hold of me. Finally, after blocking 5 numbers, and 3 accounts, he finally left me alone. This beautiful animation reminded me of that situation, and it sent chills down my spine. It bothers me so much when people call possessive stalkers "cute"..thank you also for pointing out how messed up that is, and that it shouldn't be romanticised..this is truly a work of art that again touched my gut and spine..💕

Honestly, it's kind of terrifying. The fact that people can think this is fake and a clickbait is so insensitive and shocking. Imagine walking around with the fear of this crazy dude lurking around somewhere near you waiting to grab you. Growing youtubers who haven't quite achieved the celebrity status yet but still have a large fan following are very vulnerable to these threats. I've been cyberstalked before to the point I had to delete all of my socials including quotev, wattpad, fanfiction net etc. and other non-socialising sites like that because this person somehow kept finding my accounts online (they weren't linked to each other) and harassing me and I've never even met this person irl. That shit freaked me out so bad I can't imagine what it must feel like holding conventions and meet and greets for your fans knowing this creep might turn up or send someone after you posing to be a fan. I hope you have security with you at all events that include meeting people and take precautions at all times, Dennise. Forget what your fans might think, your safety comes first.

As far as dealing with stalkers, just a few tips:
1) "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" would be an appropriate adage. I'm not sure how to prevent getting a stalker in the first place, but... maybe that's worth looking into?
2) Most states in the US allow restraining orders to be obtained ex parte (with the subject of the restraining order not present). Many states make them pretty easy to get. Usually online interactions alone aren't sufficient, but all this evidence combined with the real-world confrontation would be more than enough to have one granted. Unfortunately, restraining orders are nothing more than a piece of paper with legal consequences. It only stops people who don't want to get a misdemeanor charge. Determined individuals are not phased by restraining orders. More than anything, restraining orders are an important first sign to the stalker that you are serious. It is also an important step to showing a court that this is serious. Regardless, should a stalker choose to continue, you still need some way to stop him.
3) Obviously security. Conventions would have security normally, so you seem to have that figured out. I don't know your financial situation, but I'll just assume that you can't straight up hire a personal bodyguard or something crazy like that.
4) Home security. Alarm system, dog, etc. If you are comfortable with the idea, you could learn about, purchase, and keep a firearm at home, legally and responsibly, of course. I would assume not, but you never know.
5) Significant other? If he's comfortable filling the role, he could act like a quasi bodyguard. The bonus is that if he takes it seriously, he could hit the gym extra hard to get sick muscles to scare away stalkers? But sick muscle gains are their own reward, I guess.
6) In all 50 states, pepper spray is legal and strongly recommended by a lot of police and experts for people who are being stalked. You can buy pepper spray on Amazon for under $20 (check here for state restrictions, such as maximum size, restrictions on concentration, or age restrictions: www.pepper-spray-store.com/pages/all-pepper-spray-state-laws). They are small, convenient, and quite effective, while also not having any long term effects or real damage to the stalker. Combining pepper spray with a restraining order is a perfect combination, as the latter will legally protect you from litigation should the stalker get butthurt after being rejected and sprayed. Spraying people randomly is frowned upon, even a crime in some states. But a restraining order would provide the legal backing to show that there is a history of stalking that warranted the use of pepper spray. Further, pepper spray can fundamentally change a stalker's perception of you. After being sprayed, you are no longer a passive object to be won. You are a person, who will protect themselves. Not to sound too cliche about it, but you kinda go from classical Disney princess who is asleep to human woman with individuality.

In order to give you accurate information, I would have to know which state this is in.
Most college campuses will still allow pepper spray anyway. Even if they say no pepper spray, most have no punishments for owning pepper spray, meaning it would just be a verbal warning.
Especially if you are female and have a restraining order, no college would bat an eye at you carrying pepper spray.
Still, in order for me to give you accurate advice that takes into account your state's laws, I would need to know which state you are in. So that I can research the school's rules, the specific college or university might also help, if you are comfortable providing that information.

In Georgia, pepper spray is completely unrestricted. There are zero laws restricting it's purchase or carriage. You can carry it freely and it is not legally considered a weapon, meaning that college campus rules that restrict "weapons" likely do not apply to pepper spray. Even if they include it, their rule most likely does not carry the weight of law, as it legally is not a weapon. Further, your life is more important than following whatever rule they have for which they will give you a slap on the wrist.
As ruled by at least one court case in Georgia, depending on intent and the situation, negligent and malicious use of pepper spray can be a crime, up to aggravated assault. Legitimate self defense is still totally legal, but if you use it spitefully or as an offensive weapon, not for your safety, then it could be a crime. This is why I recommended above to be sure to get a restraining order. That restraining order would provide a nearly impenetrable legal defense for you, showing to the courts that there was a previous documented history of stalking and that the individual presented a danger to the one who sought the restraining order. For your ex to succeed in convincing a court that you were not justified in using pepper spray, despite the restraining order, you would have to really mess up (like using the pepper spray and then stabbing him multiple times, or laughing maniacally and talking smack instead of running away to safety). Oh yeah, whenever you use pepper spray, run away immediately. Then call the police. Pepper spray is an escape tool, not a weapon. When you use pepper spray, don't wait to see if it works, or say around to see if he's okay (he will be). Run immediately as fast as you can. Then call the police once you are away. It is important to call the police before he calls the police, otherwise he could tell the police a lie and say you assaulted him, claiming that he was the victim.
In order for pepper spray to work, you need to spray at their face, hopefully eyes. Sufficient face saturation will get it into their eyes. That's where the magic happens. Also, I feel the need to inform you that a small percentage of the human population is immune to the effects of pepper spray. Some people just don't react for some reason. That is also why Sabre offers a 3-in-1 product, which has three ingredients: OC (the spicy pepper extract), CS (tear gas, which nobody is immune to), and an invisible marking compound that is revealed by black light, which lets police know for certain that somebody has been sprayed.

If you want to buy pepper spray, it's quite affordable on Amazon, like less than $20 ($12 for the one linked below). Stick to the "Sabre" brand, as it is very reputable, has good range, good potency, and good capacity. I personally carry a 4 ounce size, but that is quite large, large. 2oz is quite capable and that is what my wife carries in her purse. Most small ones are a bit over half an ounce, which is definitely enough for one attacker. Many of the smaller ones go on a keychain so you will always have it with you. I recommend getting one that has a flip-top, which is easier and more intuitive to use. The key to pepper spray is to ALWAYS have it with you, no matter what, as you never know when the ex will show up. That's the nice part of the ones that go on your keychain. As for some items that can serve as weapons that a college might not label as weapons: scissors, other pointed objects like sturdy pens (there is a large group of items you can find on Amazon called self defense pens, I'm not kidding), and calculus textbooks. Other textbooks will do, but calculus will give him a headache while he has a headache. Unfortunately, most striking implements are a bad choice for self defense, as it becomes a competition of strength. If your ex is physically stronger than you, you don't want to try physically striking him with an object. Not only would that likely be a crime, but he could very well overpower you. Pepper spray doesn't have that problem. It's a ranged implement, it gets its effectiveness from chemical potency, not kinetic energy, and it doesn't leave any lasting effects.
In Georgia, as of July 1st, 2017, public colleges and universities are not allowed to ban legal concealed carry. If you go through the process to get a concealed carry permit (which isn't that hard; I will detail it below), then you can carry on campus and the college legally can't punish you, assuming it is a public college. If you go to a private college, no such luck.
There are a few exceptions, places on campus where carrying still is not allowed. These are: university housing (dorms), athletic events, Greek housing, faculty offices, areas where K-12 education occurs, and disciplinary hearings. Violations for carrying in those locations carry a $25 fine and no jail time (so it's pretty much a slap on the wrist for being careless enough to get caught. That's less than most parking tickets).
Now about firearms. Not everybody likes firearms, but they are still common tools for self protection. If you are comfortable with the idea, here's how you would go about legally carrying a handgun:
First, as with all things firearms, you can't have any prior felony convictions, no domestic abuse charges, no convictions for narcotics use, no history of violence, and so on. In Georgia, if you have been admitted to a drug facility or mental institution in the last 5 years, you will have to ask your county probate court judge to approve your license application, and he will determine whether you are safe or not.
In Georgia, no permit is needed in order to carry a handgun on you while in your home or in your vehicle. To carry in public, you need to get a concealed carry permit.
Georgia makes it reasonably easy to get a permit, just a little paper work and ~$75 you need to submit to your county's Probate court (to find your local probate court, go here: gaprobate.gov/content/find-your-courts).
It will take them about a month to approve your concealed carry permit.
And here is the most important part: Don't just lazily get a permit, a gun, and carry with no knowledge or experience. Make sure you read up on your state's laws. They are all available on the internet. Most good gun stores should offer a concealed carry class that will cover all the relevant laws for you and teach you how to use a handgun safely and effectively. Just google search "concealed carry class near [insert your city here]". They are pretty affordable and offer insanely useful knowledge. Firearms are a very important and serious thing and should not be carried in ignorance. Honestly, amazing gun skills are not the most important part, as unskilled untrained people protect themselves well every single day in the US. Far more important is good knowledge, which is free. Know your laws. Engage in the online firearms community. Learn what it means to be a responsible and smart gun owner. Carefully learn about and research the gun you choose to buy for yourself (just a heads up, a good gun should be about $400-$500. The cheapest gun that will function will still be at least $200. If you have ANY questions on that front, feel free to come back here and ask, as I could be an easy source of reliable knowledge for you). Research how you would like to carry, and in what holster. When it comes to firearms, ignorance gets people killed, knowledge saves lives.
Just to cover the basics, here are the four basic rules of firearm safety:
1) Always keep your finger off the trigger unless you are actively pulling the trigger at that moment. When you hold a gun at a store, finger up and away from the trigger. The standard thing to do is place your finger a couple inches above the trigger, totally away from it. Whenever you handle a gun, place your finger up there. After a while, this will become something you do subconsciously.
2) Never point the gun at anything you don't want to kill, destroy, or otherwise put a bullet into. Even if the gun is unloaded, always put in that little extra effort to point the gun in the safest direction possible. In most cases, that means the floor.

4) Know your target, what is around your target, and what is behind your target. This means first that you need to know what you are shooting. If you are in your house, this means using a flashlight or turning on the lights before shooting at that mysterious figure that might be grandma. The second part is to understand that if you miss, you might hit something to the sides of the intended target. And the last part, what is beyond the target, is often forgotten. Bullets often go through things, so it's important to understand what is behind the target.
To summarize those four rules of gun safety:
1) Finger
2) Point in safe direction
3) Loaded
