Hello Kathy, the beetle population seems to increase getting closer to fall. And you're right, it's a large increase in beetles here this year too.Maybe a good deep freeze to the ground will take care of next year's beetles.

Notice you have all the entrances open. Is tat for ventilation?

While it does help with ventilation it also gives the bees a lot more space from one an other while working pollen and nectar sources.
And also cuts down on travel time from one end of frames to other. Thanks for the comment. #RTBBF!

How do you plan to treat for mites in the long hive? I also recently put down some sheets to control SHB.

My plan for mites this year will be strips of some kind hung in brood nest.
