    One additional thing is that tanks aren’t always the best options because it can be harder to achieve the air circulation that a lot of species need. Being prone to respiratory problems makes it so they should not have stagnant air. Awesome video love the info!!!

    Great video! I love my redfoot, Agatha, so much! You mentioned that they don't swim, but they can. I've been giving Agatha baths since she was a little baby. She loves swimming. I think the big issue with little redfooted tortoises in water dishes, is that they may not be able to climb out of the water dish, or be able to swim for a long time (they do float) until you can 'rescue' them.

    Which substrate mixture do you use? I’m looking to rescue a red foot who has a custom build enclosure with coconut fiber mixed with reptile bark, but worried about keeping up the humidity.

  • @KatieSTaylorWrites

    Something you didn’t mention is a basking spot as well as a CHE? Are they needed because I’ve heard different things. I see a heat bulb and I’m using a halogen bulb currently. But should it be turned off at night or get a Che bulb? So many different things people say. Also I what kind of moss is it that you use? We just got a teeny tiny baby and we are still working on trying to perfect her enclosure and habitat.

    Love you videos and Peaches is perfect! We have a 8-9 month red foot named October. We have only had him about 2 weeks but I love him so much! Random question: we are in Tn and have a grass called Chickweed and he LOVES it! I cant find anywhere if its okay for him to be eating or not. Thanks gf!

    • @zekeekrkrkr__2320
      @zekeekrkrkr__2320 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chickweed is fine as part of a varied diet, but it does contain saponins, which can act to prevent the absorption of nutrients in food, and as reptiles are known to be particularly sensitive to the effects of saponins, I recommend feeding in moderation.

    Hi! Great video:) I was wondering what your thoughts are on this, I took my redfoot to the vet just for a checkup and let the vet know I use a 5.0 t5 uvb bulb, he told me I should switch to a 10.0 t5, would this be too much uvb?

    • @hexajupiter4752
      @hexajupiter4752 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know this is late, but that actually depends on the distance you have the bulb from the actual basking area!

    I have a Red Footed Tortoise, she/he is said to be 2 years old but he/she is SO SMALL. Like a hatchling so I really don’t think that she/he is a baby, I think my parents must have misheard the Store owner. Also, I’ve heard from various sources that Younger Red Footed Tortoises sleep around 50% of the day hours. I’m just wanted to ask a more experienced person like you if this is 100% true? I have also raised 2 other Red Foots with my brother who are both A LOT bigger than my baby Red Footed. Thank you. ✨

    so generally for hatchlings, how should i set up my basking light + uvb? and i know the distance of the bulbs to the substrate also matters..
    keeping it inside btw.. any tips on what kind of temperature gauge i should buy i’m looking at a bunch of brands but not sure how accurate it is..

    I've loved this video! Just a question, you talk about humidity and also about how the substrate has to dry for her not to get shell rot. How do you deal with that? Do you mist it every day, every other day?

    • @reptiliangarden
