I don't understand why entire DJ industry went nuts when Joel (Deadmau5) said "we hit play" in those festivals. It's true and atleast he admitted it. Like he said, it's what being produced in studio that counts and he is a wonderful producer.
They're still obviously still doing something up there, he just said it's very simple and somebody who has no clue what they're doing could learn it within an hour of instruction.

Especially the ones that don't produce their own stuff, their entire image is based on the illusion that they're doing something technical and difficult live on stage instead of spending days mixing and then literally putting on a show.

If you know anything about DJing, it's not _just_ pressing play. If you actually do it right. There's actually a lot of work and practice that goes into it.
Deadmau5 is the Jimi Hendrix of EDM, for the simple fact that he has forty different versions of the same song, but we will probably never hear them all in a lifetime. He's more than just a dj, he's the epitome of creativity, and a pure musical genius.

@@danjones3727 My technical skills are unique and I can make stuff no one else can. Because of that they call me a genius, I cannot count how many times. It is probably just a high technical iq. In general people connect with others that have around the same iq +-10 point, or so. Does not really matter how much it is that the further away from mean value the lonelier it get's. I can't really deal with unpractical matters, what others might call tradition/culture. That makes you different and humans don't like others to be too different. I cannot work for a boss who let's me work inefficient so I am always frustrated I cannot do thing my way. In case you have success with something it is ok then you are suddenly "special". The weird thing is that high iq is of the most importance in today's society but that just applies to work and making money. That’s not call myself a genius in the typical sense most people attach to that word, though. BUT, at some point I gradually became aware that my brain works differently than that of most people.
As said, I resonate with what you wrote. I feel the same alienation.
It is traits that often constitute what I’d term as “genius”. Steve Jobs, Einstein, Edison, Bell, and many other inventors and artists, all fit this personality type which f.e. hyperfocuses extremely deeply on their specific projects/visions - BECAUSE THEY CAN’T **NOT** DO SO - and they (we) get MISERABLE and frustrated, when being kept from doing those tasks, in order to f.e. do mundane, trivial stuff.
And, as you said: it’s NOT easy. Neither for us, nor for our close surroundings, partners, etc.
And, apropos the title of this deadmau5 track, Let Go: we just can’t let go. We’re in a way slaves to our visions and ideas.
Case in point: my last music release was a melodic tech house track called Auxylate (find it on streaming platforms) in 2019.
Since then I’ve worked excessively and obsessively on a several other productions. But I strive so relentlessly to realize the vision I have in my head, that it’s SO HARD to complete. And my brain keeps coming up with more and more details and ways concepts can be expanded (music videos, graphics, etc).
In that respect Joel / deadmau5 may be a genius. He just has people who can help him realize crazy-big projects like the Cube.
He certainly seems to fit my idea of “genius”.

TH-cam rips from his streams aren't the final song and are shit quality. Plus he's always done songs on streams and released them...

In my mind, most electronic music is "the same stuff we have heard already." Every artist has their signature sound... it just so happens that deadmau5 is one of the few where that sound is always refreshing and at the peak of his game. While I admit that nothing comes close to his first 2 CDs and a lot of his older stuff pre-Random Album Title, his music surpasses expectations when he releases a gem like this.
I more-so wish that he would get back into the remixing... a lot of his old remixes like You and I, Community Funk, Tiny Dancer... that is the stuff I miss the most.

I'd have to say depression got the best of him.
It's normal to be critical of your own work. I make mashups in my spare time and I am very critical of what I do, but I've had to stop because my depression got the better of me and I was considering my work to be god-awful.
I think Joel had similar things going on, where his depression was making think less about his work. I hope he gets that sorted because, honestly, depression is not a good thing to live with.

But obviously, this is the tale of a true love. A true love that has the intellect to recognize what is happening to his/her situation. A taste of truly sincere love. Blood for the blood goat, Polaris, Imaginary Friends, and 4ware are some the most beautiful pieces I've ever heard created by Joel. He literally is a very talented man. And Omfg the sound quality! Even on compressed TH-cam. Every note is perfectly clear. Been a huge fan since 08.
