      my 330xi with an auto is beauty to drive too. For most cars I'd insist on a manual, but it revs all the way up and is amazing for a daily. I can't complain!

    "...the high-revving nature of the naturally aspirated 6-cylinder...."
    Seriously? The engine redlines at 6.5k RPM. That's not a high-revving engine.
    What I like about the engine is exactly the opposite: extremely responsive and torquey from low rpm. No need to floor the crap out of it to get a response like Honda's VTEC or Toyota's VVTLi.

    • @pikachupowers
      @pikachupowers 8 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      +Mircea Dogaru especially the newer straight 6's. its not the highest revving motor but it is very rev happy and it likes high rpm. i thnik this is what he meant

    • @3SOULENT
      @3SOULENT 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Mircea Dogaru agreed.
      i used to own an e90 325i and it seemed to run out of breath at the high rpms, but that was ok because the low end torque was perfect! bmw i6's are great motors! no need to lie about them lol

    • @DevasionX
      @DevasionX 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Mircea Dogaru diesel is the anwser if you want low rpm torque.

    My first BMW was a 2004 e46 325Ci, and although I loved it like no other, the moment I got into my 2007 e90 335i, I couldn't go back. They're a little heavier, but they still have almost all the feel of the e46, and they just feel solid and just amazing. Not only that, but it has enough room for four adults to be comfortable on a long road trip. Give one of those a try for sure.

    The 2004 330Ci in same color is my best pride and joy. I optioned it straight from Germany exactly the way I like it: fully loaded with M sport package, Herman Kardon sound. Now only at 40k mile in immaculate condition it's such a pleasure to take it out on a drive every so often. Gotten a lot of compliments and offers, but I don't have any car I'd rather replace with. So this beauty is staying with me for life!

    The only things that let down the E46 is the lack of factory LSD. Love my 330D E46 and the running costs are not as bad as people say. I've done over 20k in the year and a half of owning and apart from brakes, tyres and upgrading a couple bushes nothing has gone wrong and now it's rocking over 160k miles.

    • @KRBY555

      +D.P.S Videos (DPSVideos) Very true. Swaps are possible, but it's not that cheap. Thats the M trick. I mean I would consider the 330d/i with LSD over m3 . BMW know this.

      @logitech118 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mechanically, for sure - problem is older BMWs tend to rot from the inside out... trim starts to go, small electrical gremlins. Starts becoming an annoying constant money trickle. Nothing matches them for handling though.

      Clutchless manual transmission is simply a manual gearbox mated to an electronic-controlled clutch. The car has two pedals only, without clutch pedal. When changing gears, the driver just needs to push the shifter. Sensors monitor the pressure of shifter and accelerator, in case the shifter is pushed and the accelerator is loosened, computer will signal the clutch to disengage the linkage between engine and gearbox, and continuing monitor the progress of gearchange. When the gearchange is finished, the clutch engages again.

    In roads untraveled e46, they had the perfect formula, looks (classic) and sport functionality that I wish BMW would go back to producing. I speak from experience since I own many BMW s past and present. The e53 suv of that generation was awesome compared to the ones produced now. Are you listening BMW AG. Bring back that European tradition in engineering and design that you once dominated over every other car manufacturer and make it the ultimate drivers machine once again.

    i have to say, the exaggerated hype on how much bmws cost to own kinda kills bmw and its sad because it isnt true. yeah if you take it to the dealer to fix everything, the bills rack up, but thats the same with every car. i love my e30 325e which has been converted to a 325is, and i just got an e46 330xi and have fallen in love with it too. there amazing cars that never get old to drive.

  • @tydee5596
    @tydee5596 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm sure someone has already told you, but the M54 engine in this is is not the last of the N/A straight sixes from BMW like you said.. The E90 325i, 328i and 330i all come with N/A Inline 6 (N52 or N53 engine). Don't listen to all the people hating just because you don't know everything about BMW's, to me you seem open about not being a BMW expert and the fact that you want to learn more about it.
    The E46 M3 is an obvious car to test if you can get your hands on one, it might not be the fastest car on paper but I have heard people compare the feeling it gives you to cars with much more hp. That insane gut-destroying feel of flooring it at 4k+ RPM with that insane throttle response and N/A power.
    Aside from that obvious choice, I think you would really like to drive an E90 335i, which has either a twin turbo (N54 engine) or a single twin scroll turbo (N55 engine). It has 306hp stock, and insane torque and smoothness across the whole RPM range. With easy mods it should actually outrun an E46 M3, but it will never feel the same. Two completely different beasts.

  • @1johpo
    @1johpo 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    The E90, E91, E92 and E93 325/328/330i were actually the last inline 6 n/a motors BMW produced but it's cool.

    Another reason why the E46 was big was because it was the Honda Civic equivalent of the German market. Parts are EVERYWHERE. And the OEM and aftermarket for this car is obnoxious. It was like legos, pop a piece off here and drop another in there, and vwhala. On the downside, you saw a lot of these modded terribly (riced), but for the most part, they were classy. I love the E46. Was going to get one till I realized how much my friend was paying to keep his running. Maintenance is not cheap.

    There's one newer generation of NA inline 6s from BMW, this is not the last of its kind actually. If you liked this, you will be mighty impressed by the M3. A CSL would be even better. Actually, you should try to drive all M cars :) e39 and e60 M5s (V8 vs high revving V10), M3s, all of them :) Hope you find some!

    It put a smile on your face, that's all that matters. For me that makes the cost of maintenance worth it and I own a hum dum 05 325xi manual. You should take a look at the e46 m3, the v10 powered 7 speed sequential speed m5 to start with. I could list off a ton of others but thats a good start. If you get a chance take a look at the clown shoe or the Z3 M Coupe. Absolute driver's car.

      +jarvis m&m Hey guys, sorry to bring up a random post. Before I go for a long drive to test drive a 330ci that I'm looking at, could someone please tell me if the automatic trans (in manual mode) will hold onto the gear it's in and not change regardless of how hard you press the pedal? Or will it automatically shift down even if you're in manual mode?
      So for example if I put it in third in manual mode and floor it will it down shift to second or will it just stay in third and rev normally as you would in third, in a manual car? Thanks so much for any response :)

    Well you're wrong. It wasn't the last of the NA I6's from BMW. BMW had a stack of NA options for the e9X series of cars.

    Hello-I've seen a few videos you've made and I like your style. BUT, I'm a motor head and would love to see some tech info on the cars you drive~ Gs held in the corners, acceleration measurements, power at the wheels etc. The same can be said of a lot of the other car channels as well🤓 Thanks for making these reviews😜

    Hey Dude ! I would recommend you to drive a 130i Hatch ! The 130i is my 4th BMW... Started with an E36 323i followed by a E46 330ci followed bei E91 330i..... I also drove few M Cars but the "Go Kart" feeling of the 130i is kinda unique.... If you have the chance take it ! If your able to visit me in Germany.... You can take mine for a ride ;-) Nice rewieving job dude ! Keep goin! Greetings from northern Germany

    Did you have the microphone inside the exhaust or something? because I can promise you that a straight six does not sound like that, I have an e39 528 and is sounds so nice and smooth. This sounded so rough, almost like a 4 cylinder engine?? xD
    Sry for my english :P

    Like someone in the comments already said: so much more to say! It's still a good review, but I would have liked if you would go more into details. Because the E46 is such an amazing car (for me). Keep up your good work!

      @RoadsUntraveled  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes there was plenty more to say I'll agree with that! We were short on time and let's be honest, this video isn't going to cause a stir on the Internet. We wanted to put our time into the shoot we have coming up on friday. Now THAT video is really gonna get some attention.

    • @sonymfa
      @sonymfa 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      kade b No, I didn't go into much detail because this is a base model 3-series from 10+ years ago and our time is better spent on other features+reviews. As you can see by the lack of views on this video. Don't worry, we got some fully-fleshed out reviews on some amazing European models coming soon.

    Focus on cars that are affordable for you and i...
    Audi S4 B5/6/7 with manual ofc.
    BMW 535i/540i, 125i/130i, etc..
    V-Tec yo!? Must be ricer!
    Or hell even a quick diesel can be a blast.

    The trouble with the E46 is that the rear subframe is badly designed and it cracks, always, with every model... BMW will reinforce it for free if it's under 10 years old.. which is irrelevant now because the last model E46 was 2006.

    So you want to know which other bmw are inline & sticks AFTER e46? 330E90 or 128i. I had a 328i converted to 330i and it was neck and neck with my 330ci. It drives better to. but its just the e46 feels smaller and i like that more when i go crazy on the slower speeds... The e90 is more mature... can someone shed light on the 1 series especially someone who owned e46 and 128
