All the best to you Jack, wishing you a speedy recovery, and thank you for sharing this with us. Us men aren't very good at talking about these things.
We aren’t, we need to get better at it. If I’d ignored the bowel screening envelope that dropped through my door as I’m sixty, well, it’s pretty obvious where this would have ended up. Thanks Peter 👍
All the best for a speedy recovery mate. It is amazing what they can do as youare well aware. As someone that seems to be surrounded at the minute by friend and family with cancer they all have said that having a positive mental attitude has helped them recover quicker. Small consolation but take care .
wow Jack hope the surgery goes well which it will you are a strong person with a bloody good postive attitude, but lets not dwell on this all your followers will be routing for you and looking forward to having you back putting the world to rights.👍👍
Hi Jack, I am so sorry to hear your crap news, but incredibly proud of how openly and honestly you talked about it, we men dont open up like you did very often and it took courage to do that but I hope you inspire other men to quickly get any symptoms checked out. All the very best mate for your surgery and i wish you a speedy recovery, still looking forward to showing you around Yorkshire so get well soon matey.
Hi Martin. Right, this is my target for this year. I will come and visit you few a few days. There’s always something going to get in the way but this year I will make it happen. Can you DM me on social media and we can establish a better contact line? 👍📲
You're not alone. I'm about to turn 70 & i'm doing the Cancer thing for the 2nd time. I'm getting brilliant help from the Great Western Hospital in Swindon but it's so important to maintain a positive attitude - mind over matter. Wishing you the best.
Thanks buddy. We’ve still not met yet. If all goes well we are heading over to Wales end of April with some of the guys who came to Picos last year, so if you fancy meeting up we’ll be staying in Bala on 26, 27, 28th? 👍
Omg Jack , you’re in my thoughts and prayers, take care and see you asap , and thank you for all you do for us . Get well soon and look forward to hearing from you asap . Carl , nottingham,
Sorry to learn of your diagnosis. Gods speed and a swift recovery Jack, thanks for great videos and look forward to seeing your next one soon. Good luck mate 👍.
I had a diagnosis about 20 months ago. Been through the chemo and radiotherapy now on palliative. (prostate, spine, lung, kidney, lymph) Had some fun and games with kidney stent operations and hospitalised twice since last november with infections (immunity side effects) one of which was touch and go over the new year. I never realised how many kind caring people existed within the NHS. I'm 66. I was working full time up till september. Had my 66th birthday yesterday, got my pension and bus pass. Triple locked and ready to party 👍 Anyway, to other people in the same boat, don't be scared of the treatments, the treatments are not as unpleasant as some people like to make out. And within the cancer treatment bubble in th NHS you'll never meet a kinder more caring lot of people. ps. hardest part for me was selling my bike once it sunk in over twelve months that I couldn't even hold it up or move it round the garage any more lol.
Oh man, this has saddened me. I’m so sorry for your diagnosis. I’m sorry if you stumbled across my video and then found out it was about cancer, I hope I didn’t upset you with that? I just want to make people wake up to the fact that, like me, they may have no symptoms but may still have cancer. It is vital that they don’t ignore the screening envelope when they receive it and just take the damned test. I’m always here or on social media, especially so over the next six weeks. Just DM me if you want to talk to me? Always here for you 👍
@@motomogul no way does it upset me, I think it's gutsy of you to share it and maybe do some good. I've already had two christmases that I wasn't expecting. Anything you can do that takes the fear out of cancer for other people can only be a good thing 👍 No kidding at my age it could just as easily be an unexpected heart attack, stroke, dementia or a dozen other things worse than cancer. My mate, same age as me, had a spinal stroke same day he took his harley for an MoT last year, and he's still more effed up than I am. At least we've still got our health 🤣🤣🤣
Not a good thing to hear Jack, seen this too often over the last few years in my own family and friend network, I honestly wish you the very best of luck during the operation and afterwards, speedy recovery and get back to doing what you love, if you ever need to talk please don't hesitate to get in touch, a problem shared is a problem halved 👍
A timely reminder to all of the lads and lasses watching this of the importance of screening, whether it be bowel, prostate, breast or whatever. Jack, Make sure you make use of your key worker/specialist nurse if you need to. Although I think you know how the system works. That was my job prior to retirement and giving advice was the single most important and rewarding aspect of the job. And, unfortunately, don’t forget to inform your bike insurers. All the best - hope the surgery went ahead and was successful. Looking forward to seeing you upright again.
Thanks David, to be honest, my management team here have been awesome. Only just got back to work from my hip surgery and then I break the news that I’ll be off again. They’ve told me to take as long as I need to get back. Not many employers are that kind of. 👍
I've just started following you... 55 and only just doing me CBT on the 20th March 24. You were an inspiration to start with (just riding)... but now... Ledged. I wish you all the best for your treatment and recovery. Keep the faith.. Life - heart... is everything. XXXXXXXX
Hi Jack, i had exactly the same op on May 2nd last yr in QMC Nottingham. All went well , 5 wks later i was walking 10 miles a day in the Cotswolds. 7wks post op i did a 100 mile cycle race. Obviously your post op now and i hope your recovery is going well. The only thing to be wary of is lifting anything heavy ish for the first 2 months. It's just another one of life's great adventures.
It is a journey into the unknown a bit isn’t it? I wouldn’t have minded as much but it came along right in the middle of my recovery from my second hip resurfacing. Surgery went well but then suffered an ileus. So after initial discharge from ITU, I had a sudden collapse on the ward. Fortunately, a friend from theatres came up to see me just as this happened. Came around to the entire crash team in my room (a team I’m normally a part of) with defib and crash trolley 🙄 Really embarrassing. Then ended up spending the next 7 days back in ITU. I’ve never felt so awful! It’s just 3 weeks today since surgery and I’m managing to do some domestic jobs, cutting the grass and jet washing the driveway. Get knackered really quickly though and the extended stay in ITU has put my hip recovery back a long way. Plan is to go out on the pushbike tomorrow, short ride in the Vale of Belvoir as my wife is working so won’t be around to bollock me! 😆 Glad to hear you’re doing well since your surgery. Hope your back to functioning normally (if you know what I mean) with only half your large bowel 👍
That must have been the toughest vid you’ve ever had to make Jack and for sure it was without doubt the bravest. It was also a tough watch and my heart goes out to you both. I will echo what everyone else has stated in that you will beat this buddy so stay strong, stay positive and you’ll stay with us. Fish and chips on me Jack on your next “Chippy run”. 👍👍
Thanks Dave, I’ll look forward to that. It wasn’t easy to make that’s for sure, and I only made it a couple of days before. I will do more videos even if it’s just to highlight the dangers of not doing the screening 👍
I'm sorry to be hearing this unexpected news about your health, at least working in the field you'll know what to expect and more importantly be familiar with those most qualified to help. By now I expect you've had the surgery so I wish you a swift and full recovery.
Missed you and wondered what was happening? Now we know, I’m so sorry to hear about your diagnosis mate, You’ll kick it in the arse and be back on your feet before you know it making some more great videos and keeping us entertained. All the best Jack and hope everything goes smoothly. Chris
I want to wish you all the very best for your surgery and hope you enjoy a rapid recovery. As an individual I have a real 'thing' regarding poo. I have no idea why, but it's a phobia I have. Never the less, as soon as I started to receive those little packages (and the first one required THREE samples....yuk!), I dutifully followed the instructions. I figure that if the NHS believes testing is important, then who am I to argue. Next Monday I am having an AAA ultrasound scan as I just 'enjoyed' my 65th birthday.
I hope everything goes well with your scan Neil. It’s definitely a must do kind of thing if you get a test envelope through the post. There’s a very good reason why they do it and I’m (thankfully) living proof of that 👍
Hope your operation went well and you recover quickly. Two members of my family have been through the same process and it is life changing, for eating habits and toilet management. The best approach is to keep a positive outlook while you learn what you can do and get back to doing the things you enjoy as quickly as possible. All the best.
