Very nice video! I do prefer the D7 for voices, is the warmest and most balanced. For saxophone is hard to tell, I'd like to hear it with no effects, it could give a better idea of the differences. It's a pleasure to hear such a beautiful voice, congrats.

El D7 es el unico que capta el vibrato para este tipo de canto. El D5 es mas plano y el shure mas para musica pop /rock.

I believe if I want a dynamic mic just for singing then D7 is the best... for musical instruments its Shure for sure... did you see what I just did :D

Yesterday I bought D7. I HAD Shure beta 58, and I am so fascinated with D7 that I cant describe...D7 is so amazing, so much better than Shure! So much warmer but clearlier, crisp and powerful!!!

An excellent comparison and the behind the scenes final was great! For me - D5 sounds the best for her voice :)

Deffinitely the D7 is the one of the best vocal mics out there. Its also about the compression and the live of the recorded sound, and the D7 has amazing dynamics and space feel, very smooth top end, which can be quite problem at the end.

The D7 is a great mic, full and warm with a shimmering top end. Lovely soprano voice...and potty mouth!

I think the d7 got more presence on high mids, more articulate and make the voice precise (need a precise voice too) (good surprise) ; the beta 58 is very balanced and discrete (professionnal) ; d5 is good for the price but not brilliant. That was only my opinion with my 25 years of singing (on beta 87, sm58 and mb85)

Great comparison video. Thank you for putting this up. I wanted to hear the d5 against the beta 58; Now I know which one I want.

The C519M had the advantage of proper mic placement for the sax. For me the Beta 58a was the best for vocals. That said for that range I'd have gone with an SM58. Pretty guitar work. The sax has potential as does the singing. Thank you for sharing this video. I teach sax. I tell my students it takes six weeks to learn the fundamentals but it might be six years before anyone will want to listen to you. Control and breathing. Tone is everything... note choice not as much.

AKG D7 definitely wins. I used shure beta 58 and beta 87, are not bad, but the time for these mics is over. Even D5 is so much-much more better, I am so fascinated. But D7 is even better :)

Wow, the d7 is so much more open than the d5. The d5 is my favorite sm58 replacement, but I love the sound of that d7.

Is it just me or does the D5 sound better than the D7?

      To each their own :)!

They have the same response in the high freq but D7 has a boost around 200-350 Hz where the fundamentals of the vocal notes live in. Something that may bother you is the complete lack of low freq since the D7 cuts it off around 100. D7 also have a little more of instability in the mid frequencies while D5 is jealousy flat.
In my humble opinion I like the boost in 200Hz and the low cut is something I always end up doing in the signal path. I believe that some components are better in the D7 and it makes the sound more professional.
I have the D5 and love the sound, don't think about buying the D7 right now but maybe in the future I will.

Which of the dynamic mic had the best transient response and will not over-shoot or ripple like a well built condenser microphone? I'm trying to pick a under 300$ supercardioid dynamic mic that can perform live and also recording.
I'm not a saxophone player but I tend to using singing technique that compressing and releasing my sound like saxophone a little and most dynamic mic cannot handle that.
BTW even the c519M had some overshoot peak when a heavy compressed note came out in this video, so if I inevitably had to adopt a live condenser mic which one is best for the job base on saxophone musician opinion?

huh? I forgot it's a microphone test! Great voice, congratulations! As for the test, from the sound I heard, I noticed little difference. Looks like the Beta has more treble! Thanks for the test!
