  • The year is 2019 it is autumn in NYC. Tedeschi Trucks Band is in the midst of their annual Beacon residency, and on this cool Sunday night I found myself at the Blue Note. Fully aware that 1) TTB had the night off that night and 2) Krasno and Derek are quite friendly I had hit up a bunch of peeps to make power moves to come downtown and catch this show. Cause of the late notice no one was able to finesse.
Get to the Blue Note for the late show and as I walk up sure enough there is legendary photographer Dino Perucci, and the modern day Bill Graham, Peter Shapiro, out front smoking cigs. I ask if I can join them and with a smile on their faces they indulge me. I admit my love to them for how much happiness they bring to people through what they do. I nonchalantly ask about TTB and as they flicked their butts onto the street they smile and assure me that "tonight is the night". Chills run down my spine.
I enter the legendary Blue Note club and am seated front row near the drumset stage left. looking around I'm surprised to see some seats still not filled as we approached show time. Then ten minutes before the band was scheduled to hit I look over to the stairs that lead to the green room and notice a bit of a crew coming down. A luscious mane of Allman blonde hair comes down those steps followed by a gorgeous blonde woman who was trailed by a crew of about six outrageous looking artist characters.
Of course this turned out to be Derek Trucks, Susan Tedeschi and almost half of TTB coming down to sit in the crowd and catch this show. Derek and Susan are seated literally less than ten feet away from me and im just in awe. All my suspicions were coming to fruition all that was left was for one Derek Trucks to get up there and do his thang with one Eric Krasno.
The E3 trio blazes as they crush some Grant Green, Beatles and original tunes. As the set pushed on I notice Derek get up and head back upstairs (presumably to get his weapon of choice). Then the grand finale, the moment of truth, Krasno calls up to the iconic Blue Note stage one Derek Trucks! Sure enough out comes that SG we all know and love. Plugs into this little prsctice amp looking thing and then the night takes off. They kick things off with a Krasno original tune recorded with Derek called "Curse Lifter" a spooky groove with these Allman-esque guitarmonies and when hit right hit ya right in the soul. They rip and they rhyme they rhyme and they rip just like Dylon did. "Curse Lifter" slowly comes to a close and then the vibe picks right back up as they go into a ripping instrumental version of Hendrix's "Manic Depression" with the guitars replicating the vocal lines. Krasno and Trucks trade solos and lay down some phenomenal guitar work. One of the most special shows I've ever been to.
As one could imagine being this close such an incredible moment in music history is something I don't take lightly especially after a year of nearly no live music. I'm just getting to posting this now and hope people enjoy it!

This is what I hope and pray for...catching Derek in an intimate setting like this one day. Thought it was going to happen in Chicago a few years back when we went to Buddy Guy's Legends bar...it wasn't Derek or Susan that hit the stage but Buddy emerged from a smoky corner with a glass of cognac and ripped it for about an hour. Love stories like these man.

We were there too. What an amazing experience. We met Derek and Susan and many other members of TTB. My buddy got a picture with Susan. Cory Wong and Mark Lattieri were there too. The was Sept. 30th, 2019?

Trio. An organ, bass, two guitars and a drummer. 3?

The show was billed as Eric Krasno's E3 Trio. TTB was in town and Derek hopped up for these two tunes. So it's the trio featuring Derek Trucks, or a quartet if you will.
