I've owned quite a few high performance B9 Audi's (Two S cars and 2 RS5s). I currently have an RS5 competition in the garage and I absolutely love the car. When they announced this car I read the press release in detail and figured out why it cost so much. The extra set of wheels and tires are $18k, the carbon buckets are $16k, the suspension is $8k, then the development and certification for the added power likely wasn't cheap either. There's more I didn't mention, but i think I understand why the car is so expensive from a component and development perspective BUT... I would not spend the $$$ to buy this OR the new upcoming RS5 performance edition over the new G8x BMWs that now come with 530HP. $150k USD is a bit wild even for someone like me that absolutely loves Audis to death. For that money, i want a leather dash, 550HP, and a slightly redesigned front and rear bumper Regardless, Im glad this car exist. It shows that Audi cares about their RS customers. For the longest time they never put a ton of effort into making special editions but now we have cars like the RS6 GT, R8 GT, and now the RS4 edition 25. Thanks for the review Joe!
Exactly. As someone that owns multiple Audis, the execs are losing their minds.... They should've made the RS4 and RS5 release with at least 500hp in standard form, 525-550 in competition trim, and 575-600+ hp for the anniversary. Seems like they've completely given up.
Just love the way the RS4 looks, and really doubt the design will age. The design cues and shape just work for me, especially after the facelift when the sharp angles on the headlights were reshaped to this unit. Dream car.
Unfortunately, in the US, all we will probably be able to do is "watch" as those will probably be yet more, in an ever growing list of cars, "which won't be making it stateside". That said, the pricing on this is nuts.
Honestly, I'll never go back to Audi after being with them for 14 years. I'm even not impressed with Mercedes since my wife has had one for the last few years.. BMW is honestly the best in almost every way to me. The quality, comfort, materials, options for the price, and the design. I just haven't been as impressed with a vehicle when it comes to BMW. My wife and I have had a couple, and now I have a new X5MC which I never will sell. It's amazing and your old video of the X5MC helped me decide when I ordered mine last year.
Be interesting to see how much this and the RS6 GT depreciate alongside their opposing rivals like the M3 CS touring, M5 comp, etc. Would be a fantastic buy after they are all around 6/7 years old. These types of cars seem to be better looked after as the owners are generally older/mature and not like a lot of the M4/RS3 type of owners who mod those to the hilt.
If you're going to the pub to explain that you've spent 120k on an Audi RS425R something or other, estate in bright yellow, with matching watch, you don't actually have any real friends.
I have a b7 rs4. For the money this car is advertised for you could buy a nice b5 £25k a nice b7 £25k a nice b8 £25k a nice b9 £45k. So you could have the entire selection of rs4’s for the same cost. Sorry but £120k for an a4 is insane. I used to work for audi and remember a loaded rs5 that seemed pricey at the time at £76k. But car prices have got silly.
I can't believe how wonderful those wheels look. They wouldn't look out of place on an Alfa either! Great colour of course - but works better kn a GT4 than an RS4 imo
Joe, I’ve been waiting for the 550e video for over 3 weeks 😂😂 love the new 5 series design tech and who doesn’t love a B58! Still don’t get the hype about electric cars unless it’s a company lease. If it were my own money the 550e / x5 50e is the only hybrid I’d consider
Gawd it looks so dang good and love the seats and matching stitching. Not for that money though but I guess I should be glad they don't sell this in the USA. I'll have to console myself in my old R8 for 1/2 the money :)
Very nice, but I have a UK-spec June ‘20 (20-plate) RS4 Avant Vorsprung in Daytona Grey from new. It’s more than enough and after haggling, she cost me less than half the list price of this limited edition collector’s piece.
Best looking estate, every gen since the beginning. Don't care if M3 is faster, this is the default estate you go if you need to. Price is high true, but I suspect the next gen will be a hybrid of some sort so this one is going to keep its value well.
The price could just as well stay but I recon that it would be a great gamechanger if Audi fitted the RS4 with a naturally-aspirated V8 engine. That would kick as**
I love Joe's reviews, even when his brutal honesty is not really what you want to hear. I know Audi and BMW are on slightly different flight paths and I imagine the new RS5 avant will take the fight to the M3 Tourings (at least in the power stakes), but it would have been nice to see how Audi's current 4 fared against BMW's current 3 with a similar amount of power. One thing I know for certain about this 25 Years Edition... I can't afford one. But for less than even one 15th of the cost, I can more than comfortably eclipse the 470hp, tune the gearbox and suspension of my ageing B8.5 S4 and perhaps give this 25 Years edition a run for it's money. And that's when I really start questioning the asking price. Yes, it's obviously 11 years newer, yes, it's technologically more advanced, yes it's an RS, yes it's prettier, yes.. it's kinda special, but I have to agree it's a whole bunch of dollars for what is ultimately "simple exclusivity". And even putting all those points aside.. it's a performance model that doesn't match up to it's fiercest rival. So.. yes.. I'm disappointed, not falling out of love with it (will always love the RS4/5), but disappointed - the uglier car is ultimately the faster, dare I say "better" car at the moment. People want an RS4 that can take the fight to BMW - c'mon AUDI... give us one... PLEASE!!
Unless you're a total Audi fanatic who collects the rare editions, save your money and get the RS4 Comp instead. The extra track wheels is hilarious. Most of us don't buy a wagon to take on the track. If you can afford this, you can afford to have a Porsche as your track car, not this. We don't even get the RS4 Avant in the US so I'm jealous. Although the M3 Touring will destroy the RS4 in performance, Audi makes the best looking wagons(estates) around, hands down.
Another RS Car that Audi think adding a bit of carbon and some seats then calling it 'limited edition' justifies 50% over price of a normal one. The car is stunning but that's 911 turbo money.
Imagine the amount of used excellent performance cars you could get for that money 😂 If it's that money in UK can only imagine what it'll be priced here in Ireland. 😮
Everyone is complaining about the price?! This isn’t a mass produced car it’s a special edition and very limited. They quietly released the RS5 Performance with the same upgrades which I’m sure is much cheaper.
I agree - no doubt they’re charging a premium for this special edition so charging extra for the watch…. Thanks Audi, but I’ll put the money towards a track day!
I really don’t see how this makes any financial sense unless you intend to put it into a collection and see what it is worth in another 25 years. Back in the real world, there are plenty of tuning companies out there who will be able to achieve the same or better results at a fraction of the cost. Audi are producing some interesting cars again but their pricing is ridiculous.
Are car manufacturers genuinely seeing sales going through at similar levels to previous years on these prices, surely there is a point where they will just fall off a cliff because only the very few can afford them.
The price is nuts but I struggle to understand a statement like who would track day their RS4 when you wouldn’t level that same comment towards someone with an M3 or M4. This is Audi’s M4CS, nothing more nothing less. Where this Audi is lacking is giving it the firepower to go with its incredible chassis.
Price? No wonder I'm not seeing many 24 plate high-end/premium registrations. Even in London they seem scarcer than expected. I suspect manufacturers such as Audi are now content selling fewer cars, but with higher profits.
As someone that owns multiple Audis, the execs are losing their minds.... They should've made the RS4 and RS5 release with at least 500hp in standard form, 525-550 in competition trim, and 575-600+ hp for the anniversary. Seems like they've completely given up.
I'd get the M3 Touring, throw 25k of upgrades on it and call it the "Edition 25K" instead. Honestly though, Audi should have done 25 units globally and made a monster car
It’s sad that people keep pinning this car up against the M3 Touring again and again because it’s a fast estate car. The BMW has the benefit of several years of technological advancements and have spent years and a fortune catching up to make a comparable car to the RS4. Had it not been “better,” serious questions would have been required. The RS4 is a fabulous car. It’s not as fast or advanced as an M3 Touring and it might be showing its age in comparison, but it a lot better looking if nothing else. Unless you are a BMW fanboy of course.
I agree would be good to have an unbiased review on the rs4. I would say it’s equally as good as the m3 touring. Watch the remove before race review he’s totally unbiased.
While the exorbitant price more or so comes from the exclusivity of the vehicle I think it’s time Audi axes the b9 gen. B10 is around the corner but it’s still going to be a few years till we see a b10 RS car unfortunately.
So why would anyone buy this thing instead of the regular RS4 Competition? The extra wheels? The 20(!) extra hp? What a joke. The Giulia QF and M3 Comp have 510 hp. Audi should have tuned this engine to 500 hp from the beginning. I owned a 2019 RS5 Sportback and it was a nice package for $80k USD. The extra wheels and the adjustable coilovers are gimmicks. Who is regularly tracking a 4200 lb AWD wagon??
No time to watch right now just about to be taken up a certain hill in France with PHT and yes that was me on the M40 on Wednesday going down for the eurotunnel
