  • @zuloph

    Hey there Settled. Found your channel about a year ago thanks to TH-cam randomly recommending me the Swampletics movie. I've watched that a few times now and have been keeping up with the tile man series. Definitely been enjoying the wacky misadventures of McTile.
    Recently got in to playing OSRS for the first time in about 20 years thanks to watching you. Past couple of weeks have been a blast in free to play with just a fraction of the content. I definitely appreciate and understand the game better now than I did all those years ago. I'm basically preparing my account for members right now, got my hands on my first bond and I'm waiting to use it to get the absolute most out of it by just hitting some benchmarks for easy enough free to play grinds.
    Looking down to more of this series. I respect the grind and production value that goes in to these, especially at this point in the series. I'd rather wait a month between episodes for the better quality rather than you just uploading a video of you boxing a goblin for 10 hours just for the sake of uploading. The 1 inventory slot miniseries was a great in between though.
    Anyways have a great day!

      @jamesruth100 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Rise7 It's definitely a different vibe. Swampletics was like watching him struggle to do the impossible, where as this feels like watching him run a marathon in weights. The McTile endgoal is still going to be crazy difficult, but like you said it's also something that's guaranteed to be achievable, where as nobody was sure if Swampletics was even mechanically possible.
      In a way Mctile reminds me of his maxed UIM series, except it has a unique twist.

    Everyone get settled to see this I have an interesting snowflake IM idea.
    Moleman: the underground/dungeon only account.
    This might sound impossible at first but let me explain. The largest continuous cavern in Osrs is between Keldagrim and Dorgeshuun city if the quest for the train link is done.
    With these two underground cities linked, it creates the largest playable underground area in all of Osrs.
    From Keldagrim you can access the troll region, from dorgeshuun you can access Lumbride swamps and I'm sure people know this but even the Kalphite queen.
    You can go from KHQ to Keldagrim without ever touching the surface.
    Note: this is an idea and I'm looking to expand upon it

I've been so proud to watch this journey you've undertaken, and fallen in love with McTile. I almost need to learn more about him. Where did he come from? Why does he have this superstitious need to only walk on specific tiles and only treading new ground after becoming sufficiently skilled in something? Why is his life's mission to slay TzKalZuk? Does he hate Zuk that much? Was he cursed to walk this path by Brassica Prime after insulting a cabbage stew?

    Ever since Swampletics I check your channel pretty much every night hoping that I maybe missed an upload in my feed. Now that the 1 inventory slot challenge is done, I'm dreading the end of this series. I've only ever played Runescape for maybe 10-20 hours when I was in elementary school. I'm 25 now, and haven't played since. But I love your content!

    I was fortunate enough to find Swampletics after the series was done, so could binge watch it.. I feel the pain of waiting on this one, but I suppose ita makes new episodes more special 😁 great work man!

    At 13:50 I was half expecting a cut from "There's a lot of explaining to do" to the mechanics and physics explaining how beer comes out of kegs. Idk why. I for some reason in my tired state thought this was where Settled was going with it.

    Mr settled... Youve had a wonderful journey and you are a major inspiration for all osrs player and watchers. I was hoping you would move on and take what youve earned from your UIM. The tileman is cool though its not the same from your original journey. Is this truly where you want to stay? Perhaps suggesting moving forward into your life with these lessons and life eperience you got from RS and let it be. Everyone will be ok with you leaving the scene. We love you for what youve brought to us through this. Its so easy for this game to be overtaking someones life, I wish youd find more than this game for yourself

    The amount of work you put in is insane. I would be curious to hear you talk about what a "day in the life" for you looks like. How many hours you put in a day, how you manage to not weld yourself to your gaming chair, etc.

    Hey Settled, I really love the series. The restriction of the tiles definitely makes it more interesting.
    In Episode #23, you mentioned needing to save up 7056 tiles for the Gauntlet dungeon, since that is the maximum size the 7x7 dungeon could be in tiles if each of the rooms didn't have anything in them, and that you were simply going to pay this as an upfront cost.
    Personally, this somewhat bothers me, as it's quite literally the mentality of "just unlocking the whole thing," which could technically be applied to the whole Runescape world where you simply ground out levels until you reached whatever millions of tiles are required to unlock the whole Runescape map. It would be very unlikely and nearly impossible, but I think that brute-force mentality would kind of kill the idea of figuring out ways to work through problems efficiently, and that's why the "brute-force" method of the Gauntlet 7056 tile cost doesn't sit right with me. However, I also do agree with making sure everything is valid no matter what, and that “brute-force” is alright if there is no other way, but with the Gauntlet is just seemed like there should be something you could do.
    So, I figured there must be a way we can calculate the number of tiles you would have spent if you simply run through and room, and how much that's really unlocking in a dungeon that uses the same tiles over and over in a randomly generated way;
    Starting off, if the dungeon is 7x7, this should mean there are 49 rooms exactly, and if it consists of only 5 unique rooms randomly generated in different amounts, then in theory you should see the rooms show up in equal amounts if you averaged it out after generating the dungeon an infinite number of times, so we should be able to divide the total number of rooms by the 5 unique ones that we'll see show up repeatedly, which gives us 49/5 = 9.8. What this should mean is that every tile unlocked in one of the unique 5 rooms should, on average, unlock 9.8 tiles across the dungeon instance.
    Just to be sure my math checked out, I went back to Episode #23 and went to the part where you showed one room filled out with tiles at 20:03 ( th-cam.com/video/eSqP_sGyArQ/w-d-xo.html ) and counted the size of the room in tiles, which was 12x12 if you exclude any gaps in the middle (which should give wiggle room for the connecting hallways), 12x12=144 tiles, and if we multiply that room's worth of tiles by that 9.8 number I mentioned earlier, we get 1411.2 tiles, and wouldn't you know it, if we multiply that by 5 (for the number of unique rooms), we get *exactly* 7056 tiles, the exact amount you mentioned in that video.
    What this should mean is that if McTile got a strange spawn and got all 5 unique rooms in a line and then unlocked every tile in those rooms, that would have only used up 720 tiles, but still unlocked the entirety of the dungeon, but if we multiply 720 by 9.8... we get *exactly* 7056.
    Basically, in theory, you should be able to run through the dungeon, and as long as you count how many tiles you used and multiply it by 9.8 exactly (you can round up if you want to be safe if it gives you a decimal), it should check out to how many tiles you effectively used without having to pay this admittedly unnecessary "brute-force" upfront cost. And even if you manage to unlock all the tiles in those rooms by getting them in a line, as mentioned, you could just multiply it by 9.8 and get that tile amount anyways, so there should be nothing to lose here in terms of "validity," the math checks out, and you can still save some tiles if you play it smart. If you run into the dungeon and count that you used 100 tiles, just multiply it by 9.8 to get 980, and that's how many you need to subtract from your saved tiles.
    Hopefully, this will help and save you a lot of time, I'd much prefer a more clever workaround for this issue, than a "brute-force" method. Also, if this issue ever comes up again with another randomly generated dungeon, it seems the formula for finding the number you *multiply by* is very simply;
    [total number of rooms in the dungeon] / [number of unique rooms].
    If you had a dungeon that had 97 total rooms, and only 4 were unique; 97/4=24.25. Multiply tile use by 24.25.
    As for anyone else, if you find something about my math that's wrong or needs to be improved, definitely let me know.
