The amazing dog thing about Mayer and his band is that ALL of them are complete masters and could easily shred out on every song and overdo it but they know how to work with space in a song which is so much more important
Claude *Applause* you my friend, gosh. This is one of the most insightful videos ive ever watched. as an engineer, guitarist, producer. Ive seen some of these tings in mixes etc. buts its what we call icing and done normal with effects. Its interesting to see how you point out that its done live and how it can be used in an orchestral mode to give depth and toneal quality. Thank you so much for your insight!
Awesome, I wish I could see a show from the Sob Rock Tour but they didn't come to Europe. I saw John live back in 2017 and 2019 and it was amazing - the band was always on top.
This guy nailed it and was glad he used a master of layering like John Mayer. Mayer is so cerebral but yet makes it look like he's just floating along wildly jamming on a song, but really, he's so disciplined. Thank you for putting this video together. It was so well done and formatted. Love it. I subscribed.
All are amazing ! So fun to watch them all live and the looks they give each other. I was front row for a show during the ‘19 tour. was such a treat to witness the guitar work and chemistry they had going on. Sharkey was bananas!!
I've been Mayer's fan for years but I couldn't really describe why I love his works. You analyzed his magic and explained so well just in a single video, amazing work. Subbed!
as if it's hard. he's a great player who is a true artist--meaning he did something that no one really did beforehand in terms of his songwriting, and he has some unbelievably complex compositions, along with being a great player on more traditional runs, riffs, phrases.
Great video and very enlightening, though one of the things I admire about John's playing is that he's also quite happy to play any of his songs just on acoustic by himself and often in different ways👍
Just saw him last week at the opening of his Solo tour in Cleveland. He was captivating and compelling all by himself on stage, he's an amazing performer and musician all around
@@ClaudeRuelle Even better, I sat next to Mark on the flight from Dallas to Miami. Tremendously nice fellow. It was hard not to fan-boy the whole time! BTW, just saw your video on the Mayer/Hunter thumb percussion technique - great stuff, haven't seen it anywhere else.
You found out a very unique way of bring guitar content up here on YT. Congratulations, man! Glad to know this channel, hope you gather subscribers soon.
What a great video! For Wild Blue I needed to listen to the studio version twice before I could isolate the other two parts. They are so, so subtle. Deciding where to set the volume of the supporting parts must be challenging, as these parts have their own its own merits and, at times, could be given more focus--as they are in Helpless. Really enjoyed your observations and discussion.
Looking at music more technically now! It's gonna make listening much more meaningful than it already is for me. Great video. Thank you for your guidance. Cheers!
What a brilliant video! I have been thinking about these things for a long time (while recreating vultures and helpless on a looper). And your video is not just musically great, but the editing and other video elements are also minimal/to the point. Great job man, Keep making these bangers :)
ALways loved more bands with one guitar, my fav band Incubus for example is just one, and i love more space for the bass, but so much to know and explore, Im a hardcore JM fan and in the " im gonna find another you" in Where the light is, they have 3 guitar solos, for each of the guitarists and since then i was fascinated by how they all can do such fine arrengements but dont have the ear as trained as youto notice for example the vultures example is amaaaaazing So much work for this video in editing and playing also in this video, really enjoy it!
Sometimes, the TH-cam algorithm is spot on. I'm neither a fan of big bands, nor am I interested in being a part of one, but those are some killer tips for making guitar loop arrangements sound a lot fuller and more interesting.
This is so awesome sir! Thank you!!! I love the content and the presentation is perfect! More reconstructions please! This actually blew my mind when it comes to arranging music. TH-cam algorithm for the win!
@@ClaudeRuelle this reminds me of a video. It's titled how Isaiah's sharkly plays with John Mayer. And it's basically Isaiah playing through moving on and getting over and throughout some parts explains what he's doing and why he's doing it.
The guitar work in the acoustic set at the start of ‘where the light is’ will always blow me away. Between Robby and DRH, the Free Fallin’ arrangement is so PERFECT
Hey mate, really great stuff. Particularly love the full band mixes. Great playing. Would love to know what you were using to get these guitar tones here?
Thank you! The amp tones are all coming from a Strymon Iridium. As far as pedals I've used a Nobels ODR-1, Boss SD-1, Red Witch Compressor, all the modulations and delays are coming from a Line 6 M9
I love how obsessed american guitarists are with Hendrix and john mayer completely ignoring the fact that other countries like Japan blow all their music out of the water without competition. Guitar, drums, vocals, especially bass.
I still think Robbie McIntosh, David Ryan Harris and Mayer was the best combo for the songs. Sharkey is too busy for me in Mayer's band and Robbie's sound was a lot classier and richer for that setting.
I love the Robbie McIntosh era, especially during the Battle Studies tour. I get your point but I think the 'Helpless' example shows that Sharkey's playing is not always as busy as we might think
This perfectly highlights why I love John Mayer and how good of a musician and writer he is, without being virtuosic or flashy.
Thank you!
You spelled “greatest to ever do it” wrong.
The amazing dog thing about Mayer and his band is that ALL of them are complete masters and could easily shred out on every song and overdo it but they know how to work with space in a song which is so much more important
Yes, always in service of the music. That's why these guys a pros and we can just aspire to get to that level one day! Thanks for watching
This is like a Masterclass in how to play with multiple guitarists in a band setting.
Thank you! These guys are awesome
What a crazily unique demonstration of something that nobody else did on TH-cam, much love to you. ❤
Thanks a lot!
Ty good bye

Very cool video! I watched John live with his band during the Sob Rock Tour. One of the best concerts I've been to. Thank you!

An unpopular opinion for how good the 3 guitar sound is in Half of My Heart. Every guitar in it has such a big impact on each other
I agree!
Great video idea! Mayer is an underrated composer, would be cool to see you break down more of his work :)
Thank you! I certainly might do in the future
@@ClaudeRuelle I agree - I'd love to see more info on John's work.

HOW do you have so few subscribers? This was so well made and I envy your understanding of band composition and guitar.
Thanks a lot!
Wow! Well done. It's not everyone that can do these kinds of deconstruction videos while also nailing the playing and the tone.
Thanks a lot!

This is really an awsome perspective to look at John's song, thank you Claude!!

Phenomenal work breaking this all down man. I was also wondering how they have so many guitars and now I have a better sense of it.

4:00 yea vulture works well with three instruments when you have a bassist that can cover as much ground as pino. Good video tho.
