  • Great weather saw hundreds of classic cars descend onto the display field at the Capesthorne Hall classic car show recently. In this video, part 1 of 2, we take a walk around the old cars and other historic vehicles on display. If you could take home just one of the vehicles featured, which would it be?
    The super-rare Austin A35 pickup would certainly be on my shortlist, although the split-window Series 2 Morris pickup would also be a contender. Several Mercedes Benz cars on display outside the main hall definitely appealed, the wonderful 220S cabriolet and the maroon 220SE being particularly eye-catching. The majority of the classic cars seemed to be from the 1950s through to the 1980s, although there were several tempting earlier cars dotted around the showground, and also later cars that are beginning to appear more frequently at such transport gatherings.
    There weren't too many pre-war and/or vintage cars on show, but one that does remain in my memory is a wonderful old Humber saloon car of the late 1920s.
    Other honourable mentions go to the bullnose Morris tourer, the glossy black Mk1 Ford Zephyr Six saloon, the Sunbeam Rapier three-position DHC, the Vauxhall Victor FB estate, and the extremely rare Hooper-modified Ford Consul Capri.
    Part 2 of this look at the Capesthorne Hall classic car show will follow shortly and a link will be included at the end of this video.

    I was born in 1951 so a great many of these vehicles were a part of my " formative years " as they say, so many thanks for some very happy nostalgia.
    As for my favourite, I have to say I was smitten with the Austin A35 pick-up an absolute gem.

    It's reassuring to see the hobby is well supported. Amusing to see American vehicles in a foreign environment environment.

    That was a nice 13/60, seems to have been given TLC, would love to see a Vitesse 2 Litre, Mk2 with the same treatment. New Zealand once had a few of these. A one time past acquaintance had one with a 2500cc engine in NZ some 30 years ago in a convertible.
    MGB's are now quite a rare site in NZ, thanks for the ongoing automotive eye candy, as we say.😎👌👍😷

    That looks like a magnificent show.
    I have a soft spot for the Mini and all its variants. That and the TR-4. My brother had one while he was at university and I have many memories of rides in the "back seat" which was just big enough for my ten year old self. I already have a Mini, so I'd pick out one on the TR-4's to take home with me.
    Looking forward to Pt. 2 ... Cheers!

      The problem with some of them was that two gears could engage which happened to me at 40mph causing the rear wheels to lock up and me skidding into a ditch

    Interesting, the FB VX4/90 had two separate air cleaners ( round ), the later Chevette / late HC had that unusual long air cleaner.😎👌👍😷

    • @tonywimble3778
      @tonywimble3778 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The VX4/90 (White with blue side strip) was a FC (101) example, the earlier FB also had two round air cleaners, the later 1966 FC VX4/90 came with a larger one piece air cleaner covering both Carbs fitted until the FC was replaced in 1967 by the FD type.

    Absolute favorite is the Alpine A110 followed by the Rover P6S and the MGBGTV8. Perhaps of interest is that after the A110 went out of production, the rights and , presumably the tooling, were purchased by the Mexican company Dyna and produced in small number as the Dynalpine. I also like the BMW 525, I had an Arctic Blau 535 that, sadly was stolen and stripped. I also had a lovely E30 convertible which I, stupidly, sold.

    • @oldclassiccarUK

      Yes the Alpine is a beauty, we saw it the next day parked at the Oulton Park circuit for the Gold Cup meeting

    Love the Armstrong Siddely. When I worked for a builder in Watford in the 50/60s we had one of these as a surveyors' transport doubling as the fitters van. It usually had oxy/ acetylene bottles etc. on the back seat. It had gear system where you changed to a preselected gear by pressing an operating pedal. Don't think it had a clutch so might have been automatic but can't remember for sure.

    • @oldclassiccarUK
      @oldclassiccarUK  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sounds like it had a pre-selector gearbox, no clutch pedal just a gear engagement switch/button/actuator where the clutch pedal would normally reside

  • @tomday7309

    Great video of a really nice show. It contained only the second Armstrong Siddeley I've ever seen. Not a common sight in the US at car shows. The first one I saw was at Hershey PA at the fall meet in the flea market at least 50 years ago. Yes, I'm a few years older than dirt.

    Lovely presentation. A small correction, the 1978 Pontiac was a Formula and not a Trans Am noted by the two hood scoops as opposed to one hood scoop better known as a Shaker on the Trans Am.

    HI, Only just discovered your channel and your video of my 1927 Humber 14/40. If you ever fancy a drive in it or would like to do a video for your channel you are more than welcome. 4 speed gate change crash gear box makes for an interesting yet comfortable journey in a car which represents the luxury of the period. Thank you for a most interesting channel.

      @oldclassiccarUK  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ian, thanks for your note, I think the Humber features in maybe two vids now (Capesthorne and Smallwood). Doing a video sometime about the Humber sounds like a good idea, if you could drop me a line (my contact email is on the main OCC site: www.oldclassiccar.co.uk/contact.htm) that'd be great, thanks.

    Some of the 70s cars are still daily drivers in some parts of Africa and they're very cheap to buy, coz the owners are stuck with them, those cars are not valued in that part of the world.
