As a daily consumer of coffee, I have strong opinions on what constitutes a great cup of coffee. When I first samples Kona coffee, it was in Alaska. The roast was very light. This resulted in a very smooth, mellow cup. As time went on, the roasts became darker and more harsh. Eventually, I stopped buying Kona coffee. While on a trip to Oahu, my mother-in-law purchased some Kona coffee at the flee market at the Hula Bowl stadium. It was a very light roast and had a very smooth, nutty flavour. It was the best coffee I have had. What I can distinguish is that the darker the roast the less differentiation in flavour.
