Man this was a life savor, I had no idea how to change it and I was gunna pay a mechanic buddy of mine to help me change it. (Use his shop and tools) but I stumbled across this video and your details make it seem like a walk in the park, took me roughly hour and half and changed the temp sensor also since you recommended it. Now my son's car is running like a champ...you da man!!!👏👏
It’s July 29, 2022. I have a 2014 Sonic 1.4l I’ve called 2 Chevy Dealerships from 2 different cities, 2 different states. Both dealerships honor the Special Coverage on the Water Pump regardless of warranty. They will inspect it and see if it is the water pump and if it is they will take care of it. I do believe you still need to be under 150,000 miles like some of the comments said. Hope this helps. If you are outside the 150,000 miles, this video is all you need to do yourself. I was fully confident and committed to do it before I called the dealerships.
SOOOOOO glad i looked at this comment! this has just been confirmed as of 11/29/2023. The water pump and valve cover are covered by Chevy up to 150k or 10 years. The car im bringing in will be expired in 1 week exactly🤯🤯 So so thankful I found this. Thank you Thank you
My car starting making a noise that sounded like squeeling. The air wasn't working then it overheated and the engine light came on. I got it home barely let it cool down popped the hood. Zero coolant in tank. I has a year old thermostat. Tank reservoir replaced last year. We filled the tank up with coolant saw it leaking on right side under car. I'm thinking my water pump went out. Any advice on changing a 2012 chevy sonic. Not a turbo. Car has 186,400 miles not sure if waterpump is covered anymore.
Before you go out and buy a water pump or PCV call your dealer there is a lifetime warranty on the water pump if it leaks , and they just put out one for the valve cover pcv valve .....
They just changed my water pump, but initially said i needed both. They said the belt looked new still. Is it bad they didnt change my belt and just the water pump? Im a little confused. They showed me it looks brand new still. i have 68000 miles on it. Ita a commuter car.
Awesome video!!! I own a 2014 chevy sonic rs 1.4 turbo and have to replace my waterpump and going to do the thermostat also... I have seen ppl do videos but yours is The Best!!!!!!! Question for you Why did you not use high temp silicone gasket maker on both sides of the gasket? I'm confused... Thank you in advance hoping to hear back from you ... Also just subscribed 👍😁
The only time that I will put silicone on is if it required which in this case its not. The reason why is if the mating surface is damaged from rusting up and the mating surface is not smooth
@@dr.peppertruck1817 yes thank you as I had it replaced at dealership bc there is a extended warranty by Chevrolet for up to 150,000 miles on there water pumps and this will be its 3rd one lol
@@dakota47v8 dammit in service information it says that there are 2 bolts that are torque to yield and have to be replaced maybe you got a lazy tech that didn’t do it right lol either way 3x dammit man haha
Hello I am not sure if this is the right place to ask but I saw a 2015 sonic for 9000 with 20k miles. But what do you think of this car is it reliable? Or does it have too many problems?
On rock auto the water pump part said this requires the replacement of one of the bolts, is that true or can all of the bolts just be reused. I didn't catch you mentioning that in the video sorry if I missed it if you did.

He make me feel like I can do it myself. Someone is trying to charge me over $500
I know this is an old video, but this was super helpful. Thanks man!
You are welcome!
Great video. If you have sonic and your water pump is leaking I would call the dealership first to see if there is special coverage on it.
Well done. Thank you! I have all my parts and will proceed tomorrow
Great job! Keep it up! God bless you! Thanks for the great help! 🤩🇺🇸👍
How did you diagnose it was a bad water pump?
Waiting for an answer
If your engine starts to over heat on the odometer or if you see it leaking underneath the car
Ty ty. Im not a mechanic lol but, you are and i used my youtube degree.
Thank you so much. Now I am ready.

Does that coverage extend to 2015 models?

Glad you posted it, but still the way explained it was very confusing. Just being honest. But thanks for posting this video
What was the hose u ordered I can't get a parts store to know what I'm talking about lol
So what were the torque specs on the bolts for the thermostat. You mentioned in the video you’d look those up and share them. I can’t find them.
did this fix the sqeek from your previous video
You're SUPER AWESOME👌👏👍✅😇
do i need that Hose Clamp Pliers?

as of 11/29/20203 this is accurate. under 150k or 10 years. The car i was working on will expire in 1 week. owner is stoked!
@@globalxsystems tell him to throw in the PCV while he's there 😁👍
An update is MyLink as well there was a recall on that too.
Very informative, thanks but if I just use bleeder will 1 time be enough, if I have solid flow of coolant from bleeder

is this job easy enough for a guy at home can do?
Yes
what kind of Snap On digital torque did you use?
What size inverted sockets did you say are needed? Great video
I think it was E10 socket for the bolts.
Without that tool how do you bleed this engine.
The car has a bleed screw on the radiator

Hey man, was this the same motor making the squeaking noise? If yes did it fix it because I have that exact sound from your other video. Thanks!

If you have a 14 sonic and your water pump weep hole starts leaking and your under 150k miles it will be free at the dealership

I would not buy one. They have a lot of issues
What would that run me since I need them replaced?
From a shop 400 to 550
