Fascinating stories. I remember from my time as a young PO the utter horror of dishonesty that quite rightly permeated the force. I could listen to Mike all day long, ideally with a cold crate of Shumba to discuss.
Hi I worked for ADF as well as a police reservist in Gokwe and Binga a total 5 years. Binga was my favourite and my eldest son was born in Gokwe in Januay 78 really enjoyed the video
Again so interesting and enjoyable.... Two things in Common with You two Men... Plumtree (Grey House). And Beatrice.. Both Wonderful, Special Places for Me... Thank you Sir's.... Cheers 🍻
Thank you for sharing your life story Mike. The one thing I can pick-up is there were no resting on your laurels. Come to think of the RLI, how was that pace maintained? I was wondering did they ever receive booster drips during the day for hydration and salt intake... The more I listen and learn the more my respect for your fighting force and people climb the ladder of respect. I am so sorry my country let you down but damn they should have made you an extra province.
Thank you John and Mike. Love to hear the backstories and everyday life of the Rhodesian war. I read the book The Part-Time War: Recollections of the Terrorist War in Rhodesia by Rod Wells. Loved it and must have read it ten times. Thanks for the work you do!!
Thanks gentlemen! It's not easy talking on camera and interviewing, Great job! Cool video at the beginning, interesting forsure, thoroughly enjoyed listening, I talk to tennis Coaches all day long and good personality means a lot! Nice to read Tony Ballinger's comments also and know he is well 🙏 thanks again!
@mikenorton3294 Hallo Mike, Joubert House is still open from what I can gather from a quick Google search, and scheduled for refurbishment/ upgrading as part of Dale's 'Vision 2027'. I grew up in the Eastern Cape (Seymour & Alice) but now in KZN. Keep well, God bless, Harland
A bit of an error. At approx 52 minutes in Mike said the terrs went "west" (according to the cook) to the Beatrice road but were tracked to the Muda purchase area, which is east of the Beatrice road. Sorry for being so pedantic but I'm a stickler for accuracy.
25:57 You mention a suicide. When I was in the RHKP I went to an old Chinese woman's similar suicide. She had pushed herself up with her hands & tied the rope around the window burglar bars & "sat" down again, just off the bed. At any time she could have propped herself up with either her hands or her legs. She didn't.
where did all these great guys go when Rhodesia fell? Sad to think of the diaspora of Rhodesians all over the place. Met a few in New Zealand and assumed most ended up in South Africa or Namibia
It was 1976, not 1974/5: 1976 - Field Reservist Paul Elliott CROUCH, PATU, BSAP, KIA. Died aged 25 from a gunshot wound in a vehicle ambush on Dave Chadwick's farm "Manyangau", near Karoi, Op Hurricane. His funeral service took place at Warren Hills Cemetery, Salisbury, on 21 December. See FR Michael Nielsen who was killed in the same incident. 1976 - Field Reservist Michael "Mike" NIELSEN, PATU, BSAP, KIA. Died aged 34 from a gunshot wound in a vehicle ambush on Dave Chadwick's farm "Manyangau", near Karoi, Op Hurricane. Mike was buried in Karoi on 22 December.
Regarding the Britten Norman BN-2 Islander aircraft said to have been stolen from Mozambique, I think the story is true. In the mid-1980s heard the story from a former air force officer who happened to be my boss at the time.
I did, thanks. Very relieved. The banking ombudsman sent my bank a snotty letter and they immediately unblocked my account. I'm also very grateful to my subscribers for rallying to support me during that time. Much appreciated!
I just love the way Rhodies talk and the slang so familiar to all of us, it's like sitting next to a fire on a chilly evening.
Thanks Mike and John. The wow factor just keeps on getting bigger.

Hi there, was in Pfungwe at the time you were in neighbouring area, got dinged by a tin while there, spiced things up a bit.

Remember JJ Hamilton and Cooper (first name?) Sister was Sally ?
Another talk please
Second that!!!
A few word changes to the opening soundtrack and you have an Irish rebel song 😂 i.e. similar background ethnos.
Related to Punch Norton Mike ? I was at Umvukwes with Norton kids. Philippa?
My 2nd cousin in umvukwes was Ben Norton
I do recall punch Norton but think he was mtoroshanga side?
Gerard " toise" Norton VC was also a relation and farmed in sinoia
@@mikenorton3294 tks Mike.
Did you get your banking sorted?
I did, thanks. Very relieved. The banking ombudsman sent my bank a snotty letter and they immediately unblocked my account. I'm also very grateful to my subscribers for rallying to support me during that time. Much appreciated!
Great news, John! Keep the content coming.
Just when you think you're getting a handle on Rhodie and South African slang, you're hit with "abominable snow oke". 😂
Yup hilarious 😂
😂😂
Cracked me up😂
