This was the first game I ever went to! I was 8. My father & uncle waited in line over night for tickets. At the time I didn't know the significance this game would bring but my father did! My uncle was just happy to be there so he chose cheaper tickets. I'm glad my ole man opted to spend a lil more cause he got us seats in the 6th row on the 50! Granted it was on the steelers sideline, but hey it was one of the most memorable experiences of my childhood! There was a few empty seats in the first row & it being my first game & being 8 the people on either side told us to come sit up there. They loved it because I was an 8 year old yelling "you suck" at Kordell Stewart. After the game we meet my uncle to leave & he said he couldn't see much of anything after the first quarter. So glad my old man opted for the more expensive tickets. At the time they were like $250. So i got to see the Patriots put a hurting on the steelers in their very first home game win! Something I still brag about today!
Bill cowher took a team that lost their top Qb , top running back and top linebackers( Greg Lloyd and Kevin Greene) to a division title and a playoff win from going to the Sb a year before. the Steelers acquired Jerome Bettis in the greatest trade of all time with the Rams without giving up a 1 pick . It’s why bill cowher is in the hall of fame !
I'll always remember watching this with my late uncle. We had to be quiet because my great grandmother was sleeping. We kept on saying how bizarre it was that the fog forced the camera crew to get nearly on the sideline in order to capture the action on the field. Driving through that prior to the game starting was the worst fog I've ever seen in New England. Good memories of that day.
Steelers fan. Saw this one. I didn't think it would be a 28-3 New England decision. This was a portent of things to come five years later. I thought New England was going to win Super Bowl XXXI because of this game. They looked so dominant.
The Steelers went as far as they could feasibly go in 1996 with Tomczak at Quarterback. If they held onto O'Donnell, they would've fared better. The 90's Patriots were very underrated. They were a good team with a lot of talent.
Bill Cowher got all he could get from this team. Lost his starting QB, Kevin Greene and Greg Lloyd gone, Rod Woodson wasn't nearly the same player after knee surgery. Bettis injured. Wow! Kudos to Bill Cowher for managing a division title and a playoff win this season.
Steelers fan here, I was 9 and I’m glad I don’t remember this one lol. Must’ve been a great one for the home crowd though. Seriously, you can’t beat football in the 90’s.
Nope, he did the first 3 games of the 1997 NFL season for NBC, then was let go. Marv came back to the NFL on Westwood One radio in 2002 and was there until Super Bowl XLIV. He was replaced by Kevin Harlan. His last time calling NFL games was from 2011-2013 on CBS.
Marv was TV announcer for the mind blowing Bills Oilers overtime shootout in 1989 (47-41 Bills win); among his 2012-13 games were Tennessee’s 35-34 win at Buffalo in 2012 and their late comeback at the Raiders in 2013.
