    It's a practical idea that works and it doesn't take away the tables original function .......nice one mate 😀😀😀 Kim 😀😀😀

    Excellent content. I have coffee table in the garage bought for exactly that purpose. Going to hide a pc underneath and have it as a mame and virtual pinball table. You did a great job mate

      Yeah - If I remember that was a head to head unit, you sat opposite each other... This one is more about co-op play - you sit next to each other.... great if your girl likes gaming!! :-)

    I think an IPS panel LCD might work better for the viewing angle when flat.
    Good build. ;)

    • @reggiep75
      @reggiep75 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've got an IPS monitor but that sort of angle would've still been an issue as I've been daft enough to walk back and forth to check it.
      It would still most definitely would be my choice of monitor regardless as the additional work to improve the viewing angle would be reduced and the colour would still be of a good standard.

    • @electronash
      @electronash 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@reggiep75
      True. I think at that steep an angle, it might still look quite dark.
      Maybe an IPS with a slight tilt would be good.

    • @reggiep75
      @reggiep75 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ElectronAsh - I should've expanded on the effects of the IPS extreme viewing angle and, like you said, it is indeed brightness issues.

    • @DubiousEngineering
      @DubiousEngineering  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Its a poop tombstone to look at too when you're on the sofa... deffo better to have a little angle on it!! :-)

    A board and clamps would have ensured straight cuts on the sides.

    An UDOO RYZEN Bolt V1000 would have more grunt than a Raspberry Pi IV and there must be a version of RETRO ARCH 64 for x86 based computers like the UDOO RYZEN Bolt V1000.

    Looks great. Bet she just loves tripping over that power cord everytime she walks thru there.
    There's got to be a way to hide that thing...
    Maybe put a flush mounted electrical outlet just under the table?

    • @DubiousEngineering
      @DubiousEngineering  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m actually thinking about making this rechargeable... put some lithium ion batteries underneath it... but it’s just not worth the hassle... cable it is...

    I have a Coffee Table in the Man Cave I have been thinking about to convert. My idea was to use a 32inch screen and have it adjustable so I can have it flat for playing D&D and then tilt it for Gaming.

    • @DubiousEngineering
      @DubiousEngineering  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Be prepared to lower it the viewing angle can be quite acute on some monitors...

    • @lelandclayton5462
      @lelandclayton5462 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DubiousEngineering I was planning to some how put in a lead screw and a Stepper motor and drive the Stepper Motor with probably some sort of Arduino compatible driver and control the tilt with it because I know depending the way a person is sitting the angle changes. Also instead of the angle dropping the Monitor further into the table I was thinking to make the Top raise. basically how a Laptop LCD folds but backwards.

  • @westonscampbell
    @westonscampbell 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You could have left it flush in the table, and built a mirror to sit at the top to reflect the screen at the desired angle. Would need to mirror the display so it is reversed correctly in the mirror.

    • @DubiousEngineering
      @DubiousEngineering  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thats a great Idea... perhaps have the mirror on a motor so it pops out of a small slot in the table... Oh well... I seem to remember some old arcade machines had mirrors in them.

    My only concern was about the viewing angle of the monitor and this came up later on. IPS monitors have improved viewing angles than most (I have one myself) but flat viewing was most definitely not gonna work.

    • @DubiousEngineering
      @DubiousEngineering  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmmm..... thanks!! - I have just done some research on IPS... Perhaps you are right!! - That said, its a weird angle when you're on the sofa and its flat... I think its important to get it to face you a little to reduce back pain!! :-)

      Dubious Engineering - Yes, I am new to your channel. If she loves gaming, why would you pretend you did this without asking her? It’s not a good first impression, which is a shame since the rest of the video was very good. I’d recommend involving her in the video next time instead.
