One tip I'd add relative to this expansion is having extra free space can be a huge performance boost; if you have little space left on the Deck, you will notice severe performance hiccups & it's easily repeatable (& for many reasons). It's not a problem that's unique to the Deck, but for many people struggling with performance on the Deck, freeing up some GB's often has an inescapable & immediate impact. Love this video outright, MG. 💯
@@MrSyfygamer A few minutes for the games I use the Steamdeck for. I can’t stand to play modern games on it because I know it will look and play better on the PC and/or Series X so mostly older games like Mad max, PGA tour 2K11, emulators and indie games. I can imagine if you play big modern games all the time and a lot at the same time it can be a problem but even then 2/3 TB is way to much ?
Just a quick tip here. If you have limited internet speed or cap, it's better to invest on cheap external drive and use steam backup. You can do this on your desktop PC. In order to interchange these backup with Steam Deck, you must not partition the backup into multiple folder. It must all be in a one file. In order to accomplish this, during your setup of backup make sure to adjust the size of folder until the backup fits into one folder. Once done, you can restore this backup using Steam Deck. Make sure to do this on desktop mode. Currently, there is no way to restore back using gaming mode. If you restore the game on your main drive (NVME) depending on how fast is your read speed of the external drive, a typical game will take about 5 minutes. Bigger games like GTA or Read Dead Redemption 2 will take few more minutes. Nevertheless, restoring is a very quick process.
Great video. In December I started out with a 512GB steam deck, bought two 1TB microSD cards. One card filled up so quickly. Yesterday my 2TB WD SN750 NVME SSD arrived, popped it in today (March 5, 2023). In the process of moving the games off the 1TB that is not full to the internal SSD, leaving the full 1TB card as is. I have the Deck Mate that holds two microSD cards. So 2TB internal, two 1TB microSD cards (one inside of Steam Deck and one in Deck Mate), and one 512GB microSD card in Deck Mate that contains Heroic Launcher with games.
@@kaoe145 no, it does not have 2 slots. In my post I said I bought two 1TB microSD cards and an internal 2TB SSD. This video was the decision maker for me to buy a steamdeck. Probably should've bought in increments but I'm sure I'll be satisfied. The 1tb micro SD can wait. 😂
I haven't gotten the Steam Deck yet, and am probably going to do this if I get one. I will also be replacing the thumb sticks with the gulikit thumb sticks so I don't get stick drift. Great video!
Steam should've been setup so when the ssd with no Steam(image) is detected, it automatically downloads/installs it once connected to the internet. The extra steps requiring a flash card/pc could be a hassle. Bear in mind some who purchased the deck got no PCs, as hard as that's to believe.

Sorry if this has been asked, but I am looking at buying a couple of these, one for me one for my son. I'm big into having lots of storage space on my devices, and I was curious, would it be best for me to just buy the 64gb version of the console since I plan on replacing the ssd, or does it not have a slot for the ssd? You can but for the foreseeable future wired will have the least latency and the highest download/upload speed; not that I would keep my steam deck docked all the time.
you can also just copy the intire os from your old ssd to your new one by getting an external case for the new ssd and copying it using a konsole command
