Thank you, Michael. I, too, do not participate in sales, parties, cook outs, etc., on this day. Rather I reflect on those who are lost to us forever. This is one of my Memorial Day reflections: In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie, In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. --John McCrae, 3 May 1915
It's a day of remembrance for all of our military who gave that greatest final measure defending our freedom. No man has greater love than to lay down his life for a friend, and in battle, that is precisely what they are doing. Because of their courage and sacrifice, we live in freedom today. May the Lord bless and comfort the families and friends who lost loved ones in defense of our nation.
Thank you. I hear people say "Happy Memorial Day" and I think they're missing the point or maybe they just don't know how to say Respect Memorial Day in their own words. The other thing I noticed is I subscribe to many many TH-cam channels yet yours was the only one that posted something specifically about Memorial Day. So again I say thank you.
Big issue with Vietnam was the draft. Forcing people; non soldiers and non fighters to get involved. I think it would have been very different had there been no draft.
Copied & pasted from a Memorial Day website. Words to Taps (Note: there are no "official" words to Taps but the most popular Taps Lyrics are below) Day is done, gone the sun, From the hills, from the lake, from the skies. All is well, safely rest, God is nigh. Go to sleep, peaceful sleep, may the soldier or sailor, God keep. On the land or the deep, Safe in sleep. Love, good night, must thou go, when the day, and the night need thee so? All is well. Speedeth all To their rest. Fades the light; And afar Goeth day, And the stars Shineth bright, Fare thee well; Day has gone, night is on. Thanks and praise, for our days, 'Neath the sun, Neath the stars, 'Neath the sky, As we go, this we know, God is nigh. (These Taps Lyrics are the most popular, however several adaptions have been created.)

This was raw and powerful. Thank you for the reminder.

I’d have to agree. Incredibly sorry for your loss.
Thank you for the heartfelt message. The other day I looked up a song I hadn't heard in several decades, Lucky Man by Emerson, Lake, & Palmer.

17500 , or about 30% of the 58000 Americans that died in Vietnam. Almost 2 million were drafted during that war.
