I shall never forget the day I visited this cathedral. It was about midday on a glorious summer day, and I found myself standing alone in the Lady Chapel, which was filled with an indescribable quality of pure light. It was like being in a great crystal chalice. And in the passage between the chapel and the cathedral there was a memorial stone to a gentleman of olden times, recording the date he 'exchanged time for eternity.'
A crystal chalice is a fantastic description of the space. It really is a place for reflection, I found myself spending a lot of time just sitting, staring, enjoying the Lady Chapel
I took a day-trip to Ely when I was staying in Cambridge a few years ago on a trip from Canada... and fell in love! I spent hours and hours trying to soak up every detail. It is magnificent in every way, and it has become a firm favourite in my books. Thanks for this quick peek inside!
@@BackpackersBlueprint I encourage people to visit whenever they get the chance! They just had a fabulous installation of Sean Henry sculptures on display, and if you do a search, there is a video posted on here about it that's very cool.
@@LadyCalverley Awesome tip thank you so much I will have a look 😊 did you manage to visit further architectural Gems in Cambridge? There are a lot of stunning buildings there!
@@BackpackersBlueprint I took a walking tour around the old district surrounding the colleges, and went to Evensong at King's College to hear their wonderful choir.
Thank you very much I am glad you enjoyed it. Yes its such a beautiful tower as well, although I guess it add character to just have the one! Have you visited? Its really worth a trip if you are ever nearby.
