This video really hit home for me. I’ve always had a low self esteem and thought I didn’t deserve new clothes or nice things until I lost weight and pulled myself together. At 51 years old I’ve finally realized that I’m fine just the way I am and the only one judging my appearance was me. I’m sad that it took so long for me to realize this but better late than never! My husband and kids love me just the way I am, and now so do I!
Re. Open space: we had to move everything moveable out of our kitchen to get new flooring. My husband and daughter took one look at the open space and said, “How do we keep this feeling?” We ended up donating a desk, moving the large kitchen table upstairs as a desk, and buying an inexpensive, smaller table. We also did another sweep of kitchen things to donate so I didn’t need as much extra storage. Now, we have what my daughter calls “the dance floor.” It was so gratifying that they were the ones who wanted it!!
I'm still here advocating for you and Dawn and whomever to tackle the D word: Depression. You're so honest, Erica. I think it's pretty clear that you used shopping as an antidepressant (been there). And, now, minimalism is your healthy antidepressant.
I have really enjoyed spending the past year with you. You are such a breathe of fresh air. I do wish I would have figured this out in my forties!! Congratulations and thanks for sharing.
Hallo Erica. I got a little job for you. Go and have a look at the first videos you post. I did it yesterday. I could not believe how you grow as a woman mother and wife. Not to forget how amazing you look. You are a inspiration. Karima South Africa
Erica, you’re great at this and I am so enjoying your channel and your journey. Thank you! So glad I discovered your channel! I could not agree more about the calming effect of OPEN SPACE!
Hey before you compost the veggie scraps you can make chicken stock or even veggie stock out of them I have a freezer bag in my fridge that I put celery onion carrot peels in and then whenever I have leftover chicken or turkey bones I'll throw them all in my instant pot and set it for like an hour and let it naturally decompress then I'll use that to make soup for my family. Some people make straight-up veggies stock without any meat guns which I'm guessing that you could compost I don't know if you can compost meatballs but I just wanted to say that's another way that you could use scraps.
Erica, even though I am a 58 year old grandma, in a totally different phase of life...your journey speaks to me. Thank you for your honest sharing. I love that your minimalish journey has made you more available for happiness. Isn't that what we all want and need? 5 years ago I quit (decluttered?) a job that I loved. That last year that I was working I felt like God was calling me to be more available to my family. When I say family, I don't just mean my husband, my grown children and my grandchildren. I felt an urgent need to minister to my parents, siblings, aging aunts and uncles, cousins...everyone that was within driving distance or a phone call away! I needed to love them better! Little did I know that between now and then, we would lose 5 of those people. We would also have to place my dad AND my 59 year old husband into nursing homes. Why am I sharing all this? I guess, to me, it goes along with being more AVAILABLE for happiness. To do that, I think we need to simplify/declutter/destress our lives, so we have time for what's important to us. God bless you and your family...and may you "love well".
That's a beautiful way of putting it. Thank you for sharing your life too. My condolences to your losses but I'm glad you have such insight and feelings too. It's as inspiring as Erica's journey is too. Stay safe and I wish you a wonderful day.
Just... Whoa. I've been following you since the beginning of your minimalish journey and I see such a big difference in you. You smile more, you sigh less! What a burden you no longer need to carry, dear Erica! You have inspired me so much. I am living my own minimalish life and can find myself in many of the things you talk about in this video. Body acceptance is one I am working on right now, and it's not an easy one. I'm also talking myself very often that I should be grateful for this body of mine that made two healthy kids - from scratch! It's just easier said than done some days. Something to work on! Thanks for encouraging this community! ❤️❤️❤️
Keep going! keep learning, sharing what you learn and bring us along. I look at what you are "lightening up and out" of your space and then look for what I can lighten up and out. And your growing self acceptance is a thing of beauty. I too have a three kid body, and it shows. But where it really shows is in my heart, which is blessed and full. If I look there first, then I see the real truth.
I grew up in a home where every surface, nook and cranny was occupied by something so when I moved out on my own that was the last thing I wanted. Here I am 30+ years later and I love the openness just as much now as in the beginning of adulthood.
My childhood as well, and I didn't think I could get there myself; it just wasnt meant to be... but little by little, I have been getting rid of the unnecessary, the overabundance, and the idea/ assumption that I can't have clear spaces. It is a (hard)work in progress
How are you so good at putting these things into words? Really the part about open space totally got me, that’s one of the biggest parts that we enjoy as well! My kids were literally just doing cartwheels and flying paper airplanes in our combined living room because we have the SPACE and we enjoy it so much!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Hi Erica, oh how I love your channel, you have become a friend, and love when I see a new video from you. Ohhhh the perks of minimalism, I also have realized how much has changed, I love empty space, I love my countertops with nothing on them, except my Keurig and my knife set, both I use many times during a day. I donated 6k worth of belongs last year, and also gave a valuable collection I had to be auctioned off for the rescue of dogs, and surgeries for them if needed. I have a NICE savings account now, no bills. I shop intentionally, I also have a capsule wardrobe, who knew I could have only a 1/4 of my closet filled, and have plenty of options of what to wear, I also am more aware of the earth, and not buying plastic and using what I already have instead of buying new. I never knew the day I cleaned out my junk drawer it would lead to all this. Love how real you are, your a delight ❤️
@Sarah Isn't that the truth! Every time I struggle to let go of something (clutter) I literally say out loud "Giving up this PIECE is worth my PEACE"! Then I'm able to say thank you, goodbye and get rid of it!
What a joy to watch. My experience has been very similar, discovering zero/low waste, getting completely out of debt and making significant progress on a savings account, fixing a shopping addiction, and body appreciation. Everything in my closet fits because I donated everything that didn't, and while I may need to work on my fitness level to be an "ideal" version of myself, I no longer carry with me the expectations of being perfect and just focus on intentional, healthy choices. Currently loving Yoga with Adriene's free 30-day series.
Always enjoy your posts. I am now a senior senior, and have been mostly minimal throughout my life, through children and grandkids. You are so on the right track! I was a back to earther in the sixties and we still garden organically.
Nr 5 yes! Once you see all the things and stuff going out of your house decluttering, you get really aware of the other waste that you create too like you said! 😊
Enjoying your videos. Clutter really does create a low level anxiety. Trying to unstuff my home of thirty years. When we were building our home, everything we owned fit into a small room in the attic and now we have four levels of stuff! Amazing what we think we need. Keep up the good work! -Sue
So glad to know “space for joy” Erica and it also makes me appreciate that “clutter” Erica put herself out there in the beginning. What an incredibly hard, but powerful thing to do! I would love to see you react to one of your earliest videos and talk about where you were then opposed to now. Thank you for bringing us along!
The space. the interconnection of the internal work manifesting on the outside, to be able to allow for the physical space and not feel the need to fill it, cover it up, hide it and then that allowance of physical space provides for further inner work. I also am uprooting defaults. Default settings/behavior. Shopping just cuz. Looking to food instead of allowing my feelings and receiving what they have to teach me. Just this week I went roller skating for the first time in decades?! and I was so aware! So alive! so connected to myself and that I was experiencing a "high" without shopping or spending money or accumulating or filling up the space/silence. I was PRESENT!
I love how you reveal the connection between the physical clutter in our lives and how it relates to the financial, mental, emotional, and body clutter. I am working to get there, but can see that the stuff sitting around me is really reflecting the clutter that exists in the other areas. Way to go, Erica! I love your honest transparency.
You are just fun to watch and I really like how you are talking about minimalism as a whole not just about the physical clutter... I am a lot slower on the journey because a lot is going on in our life and I often do not have the energy, but when I think back of what we got rid of it still is a lot. So I watch and learn from you. Keep going! And so great that you are alomst out of debt!
@Lia Tori You'll get there! Just keep reminding yourself of your goal and dedicate at least 15-20 mins a day, if possible, to making it happen. You've got this! ☺️
@@mominator7274 Thank you for your kind response. The comment section though does not necessarily allow for not enough clarification, and also I myself did not clarify enough. Our home IS organized, down to the t. I feel however, especially now that my husband and I are getting older, that we still have too much stuff. This is the year for me to clear many sentimental items. I have quite a few of them. ❤
I am just so floored to hear your message of growth! Watching your journey has been so encouraging and I’m just so amazed to see the joy, peace and confidence that this process has brought you and your family, it’s just wonderful!! Thank you as always for sharing and being so vulnerable and honest!
Loved the video 👏👏👏👏👏. I also love that shirt on you, it's gorgeous 😍😍😍😍😍. I remember watching your videos at the beginning of your journey and it really made a huge impact on you, you become a happier and more confident person. Now I want to know what the other benefits are, please film a part 2😁😉
Hi Erica, I have been following your journey since you began minimalism and I have noticed that over time you have become more confident in yourself and the choices that you make. You go girl, I think it is awesome. I also would like you to know that the top you are wearing today is lovely and your hair looks great as well. It gives us encouragement that if you can overcome your stress and put your life (and finances) in order then so can we. Thanks for sharing everything you have learnt through becoming minimalish. I have enjoyed every one of your videos and it has given me the encouragement to become minimalish also. Thank you so much, Erica, I couldn't have done it without you.
You are so authentic and inspiring, Erica. I love seeing you evolve. It’s helping me to have hope in my own journey even though I’m a couple decades ahead of you. What an amazing woman you are! Thx for sharing with all of us so transparently. Can’t wait to celebrate with you when you make that last debt payment, whoop whoop!!
I love your channel and have watched your journey from about the beginning! I have learned a lot from you and I'm starting my minimalism (ish) journey!!! THANK YOU FOR BEING SO OPEN AND REAL WITH YOUR THOUGHTS, IT HAS HELPED ME A LOT!!!!!!! 🥰
I really like you and watching your journey. This week I decluttered kitchen drawers and got rid of 4 big garbage bags of clothes. Wow! You're right the open space not only literally, but also in my mind. I love this journey. I just wonder how far my husband will let me go. He likes clutter
I really appreciate how genuine u r Erica! I have hoarding tendencies and I watch 3 TH-camrs that have and continue to help and inspire me. Firstly is yours Erica, secondly Clutter Bug and thirdly is Hoarders Heart.
Thank you for your short and sweet videos. Getting straight to the point is much appreciated! Good content doesn't need a lot of fancy schmancy stuff. 😊
Yes to all of these Erica - so very true and I've experienced the same since going minimalish. I love how you just start your videos and that top is fab!
Erica I'm so glad to have found you via the January playlist. I hear you with these 5 things so much. As a curvy girl who is focused on low waste and minimalist ideas I'm more than happy to subscribe. You come across so upbeat and approachable. 🙂
Love the no receipt idea as I am a receipt hoarder. Always saved them in case I needed to return something or an error on my credit card statement. From now on, e-receipts only, if that. Thanks, Erica!!
Wow-I'm so proud of you and your family for getting as far as you guys did!!🎉🎉🎉🎆🎆🎇🎇✨🍰 In reducing a majority of things in your life, it seems to strengthen you, so I see that in your family!!💗
You've come on so far in such a short amount of time! Great list, I'm so happy for you that clearing the basement way back then has turned into an all round better life for you ❤ And what? One more bill until you're debt free?! Wow!! 😄😁🎉🎉❤❤ x x x
Thanks for the reminder - I need to click No Receipts too! I've just recently learned (duh!) how to "pay at the pump" at the gas station, but I guess I haven't trusted the machines not to rip me off, so I always get a receipt. I've done it enough times now though, and I think i can finally trust that I'm only charged for the gas I pump, so I can't refuse the receipt - just cleaned my purse out today, and it was like Mary Poppins, how did all that paper fit in my purse!? ;)
Your making great progress. But I disagree about receipts on purchases of larger ticket itemsI I keep a months worth of those receipts plus credit card receipts in case I need to return items . There’s a basket in the car just for that storage . Hope this helps. You’re doing great.
I really like this video. The last item you talked about was low/zero waste. I admire the changes you have already made. In your organising video's it looks like you purchase plastic items to organise your kitchen. Are these indeed plastic and aren't there non-plastic items instead you could have purchased such as bamboo? Or perhaps you looked for it, but were unable to find it or perhaps the items you found wouldn't work for you and your family?
Hi Erica! I don't know if you did Dave Ramsey Money Makeover.plan, but his plan is awesome!!!! I can se your emotion of being almost Debt Free!!! You sould call Dave Ramsey and make a video with your family and Scream We are deeeebbbbt freeeee!!!!😀 Congratulations Erica👏👏👏

I have to have some open space. I don’t seem to be able to get things done when there’s visible clutter in my work area.

I've done it enough times now though, and I think i can finally trust that I'm only charged for the gas I pump, so I can't refuse the receipt - just cleaned my purse out today, and it was like Mary Poppins, how did all that paper fit in my purse!? ;)
Use a e-receipt and you can get points that turn in to cash. Love Fetch! Thanks Erica. Great job! 🥰🏁
Great video!!
Good video and thank you for mentioning these 5 parts of minimalism.
I’ve gained 13 lbs in quarantine. 😅 I stepped on the scale this am...was a total shocker! We live in a big city so we have no yard...
What? Only one bill left of your debt? That’s amaaaazing! 🤑🤑🤑😎😎😎🌟🌟🌟
Great video. Truth!
Amazing. Killing it with the inspection.🙏🏽
I love the video
Well done! 🙂
Coffee grounds are also really great as a body scrub 😃
Your making great progress. But I disagree about receipts on purchases of larger ticket itemsI I keep a months worth of those receipts plus credit card receipts in case I need to return items . There’s a basket in the car just for that storage . Hope this helps. You’re doing great.
This is so good. My mother in law is a pro at this. What do I already have?
AMEN!
Fantastic video!
