can't wait to see strategies for being and defeating an arsonist evolve over time. [edit] we need a proximity role pack. all the roles that want to be near someone.
I think they have both guns in play (though I haven’t seen any clips with the actual HUGE), so whenever they get one or two of those guns, they confuse it for the other (when honestly it doesn’t matter too much, asides from the awful recoil)
@@palecaptainwolfkayls8499 The Ares *Shrike* (not Strike!) has horrendous recoil and high damage, but the Huge (M249 SAW) has terrible damage and low(er) recoil. The huge also has a much higher fire rate, which weirdly enough makes controlling its recoil even easier. It's not too difficult to stay on target with the huge, but its bullet spread is so wide it's wildly inaccurate anyways.
I'm curious if there is a possible arsonist variant where you douse someone in pheromones which attracks bees and then, when you've doused enough people, you spawn a lot of bees that are speficially attracted to the doused people. Like exclusively attrackted. Perhaps more as a one-off joke than a regular role, but something which might come up as a randomat result (like the other bee-related roles).
Considering the informant needs to be close and the arsonist needs to be close, and the shadow needs to be close but you can kill it without much issue, there now needs to be an innocent role that needs to be close. Maybe a "guardian angel" that protects their target from damage when close, similar to the sponge?
Was reading the comments wondering why no-one was talking about Rythian's seriously impressive deduction work about Zylus... and then I finished the round and understood!
At the same time, if they did go out and the arsonist only has one use, people'd just camp water after being doused until the effect was used up. ...Maybe some sort of "you can remove the gasoline before you catch fire if you meet certain conditions" mechanic could be a solution. Gives the arsonist motive to activate ignite early once people start getting alerts.
@@Dxm2000andNinju Or the arsonist can light other players on fire more than once. Besides, the arsonist is only using gasoline, right? It doesn't make a lot of sense for a person on fire to not be able to put out the flames if they submerge themselves in water if the fire's fueled by gasoline. Maybe napalm...
I feel like the Arsonist is kinda a failed roll. The big issue is there's no REAL objective for them to have. It's like the Jester where you just wanted to be killed by someone and then it ends. Like just participating in the role isn't enough, there's no justified change for the role to exist. If "gasoline can" was a weapon the traitors could use to douse people (without them knowing), then set it off at once to do 30 damage, that would work, but as it's own role it's meaningless, I mean, even the Mud Scientist gives the player more to do. If they wanted a new brown role, I'd like something like a Cannibal. Take inspiration from the evolver weapon they used to have YEARS ago, and have the Cannibal be able to eat human bodies to get some kinda buff. Or, maybe have a role called Xeno: let the player "plant eggs" inside dead bodies, and the body will turn green and 10 seconds later, an antlion worker will pop out. Things like that give players an objective, rather than just a weapon.
Idea of arsonist: if someone gets ignited by a different fire damage source (as they are fairly rare), or touch a burning person, it can trigger a doused person to light as if they were hit with the ability.
Heres a role idea: Tamperer -- has the ability to falsity death readout information meaning the detective would need a specil item to be sure of the truth.
Honestly, that seems less like it should be a role and just a mechanic. You just have a gasoline can and you can douse people in gasoline, and then they go up in flames when exposed to fire. It's oddly restricted if it's role specific, but seems like using fire as a mechanic rather than an role would create new avenues for emergent gameplay. That said, this is Gmod, so I don't know how easy it is to implement something like that as a mechanic, as opposed to just adapting a role.

But what value what a traitor have in pretending to be a (more obvious) role that'd have people want to kill them? Especially one that, message giveaway or not, still cements them as a to-be-killed role?
