    Derek - a quick comment from here in the UK to say thanks & show appreciation for your posting these videos/the kindness of sharing them with the wider world. Certainly plenty of time invested in not only editing the videos, but also your skill to enter these environments in the first place. Very valuable content herein - not only to those of us planning on visiting certain of these areas, but I imagine your work will also have historical significance in years to come (record/archive of cave conditions etc).
    Thanks for sharing/giving up your free time to create your content in the first instance. Greatly appreciated.
    All best
    Kris (climber & occasional caver)

    Would love to see these older ones re-produced in your current style of more calm music and narration. Thank you for the inspiration and entertainment

    Hi Derek - love your videos! Can you explain the plastic sheeting and the shoe changes? I take it not to track environment from one place to the next? Do you guys sleep at all on your trip or is it 30 hours of exploring? Keep up the good work! What's the best way to get started caving?

    • @DerekBristol

      The Snowy River passage is extremely unique. The floor is covered in a delicate calcite crust (secondary cave formation). We use shoe covers or clean shoes with white soles along with plastic tarps (aka Magic Carpets) to minimize impact to the formation we're walking on. We've done a few trips of 30+ hours without sleeping, but on this trip we bivied for ~3 hours. Recent trips have been over 40 hours with a 6 hour bivy.

    Nice video! Could you please tell me what camera you used, as well as the light source, and have they been in many caves yet?I've been contemplating buying a new camera that I can take on some of my caving trips.Thanks in advance, Greg

      Most shots in this video are taken with a Sony a7iii with Sony 28mm f2 lens. This is a great low-light camera but pretty expensive for dragging through caves. Shots taken while moving were made with the GoPro Hero 5 Session, but I’ve recently replaced that with the GoPro Hero 7 Black. I use high CRI Zebralights for lighting.

    Awesome cave! The audio however, the annoying electronic music upstages everything! Tone it down, let more background mix in and I would enjoy it more.

    • @DerekBristol
      @DerekBristol  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      If you mute your computer you'll be able to hear the sounds of the cave... i.e. total silence.

    • @garybeasley4885
      @garybeasley4885 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DerekBristol there's always some sounds because there's people in there, as well as water movement. Being a western cave may not be much though. Lechuguilla was pretty quiet when we were napping but even there the cavers kept it noisy. Keep up the good videos.
