As someone who just CANNOT get a twistout to work on my hair ever (for more length), this hybrid wash and go was AWESOME! I washed with Tresseme naturals conditioner and also sprayed with a mix of Tresseme conditioner and water before twisting. That gave me a nice big curly look the next day. So I decided to experiment even further - the next time I did it more like a regular wash and go. After I got out the shower, I went section by section, sprayed with my Tresseme and water mix, then added some Scurl wave gel (makes my curls pop), some eco styler gel (for hold), and grape seed oil(for moisture). That made my curls pop a lot more in each section, then I did the usual 2strand twisting as in this video but I twisted very lightly to leave my curl definition in there. My goal was more length for my wash and go yet plenty of curl definition AND no wet hair in the morning. It's a little more work and looks different than the original but Yeup! That worked too! Now I have TWO "do at night" wash and go looks for more length and no wet hair the next day. Awesome! Thank you!! :) P.s. The version I did with styling products does take longer to do AND to dry but I'm about to try your 5-day wash & go night routine and if it lasts a week hey, that's more than worth it! Thanks for that video too! :)
I did this method and I absolutely loved it! What I did was wash and condition my hair. After I was done washing my hair, I soaked up the excess water with a t-shirt. Then I sectioned my hair off, 5 twists for each side like Whitney said. Then I applied cantu leave in conditioner to each section then sealed in all the moisture with some avocado butter, then I twisted up the section. This in all took me only TEN MINUTES. That's pretty darn awesome. I applied perm rods to the ends of my twists but you don't have to. Then I allowed my twists to dry overnight. My hair looked awesome the next day! It was super soft and defined and I didn't even use any type of gel or holding product. If you love quick styling, then I would totally recommend this! :) Thanks Whitney, for all your awesome hair styles!
Well it seems based on these comments everyone has a different definition of a twist out....I did this method by accident the other day after using bentonite clay (not knowing how I wanted to style my hair, I added a leave in and twisted it up to dry then putting the twists in a bun to run errands which I didn't realize I was stretching the roots) and ended up with stretched defined(my own texture) Hair the next day! with no gel, hold, or styling product! I thought I would have to retwist so it would get frizzy but It was actually the first time I could pineapple my hair at night and retain the style for a few days! I immediately thought of this video, thanks naptural85
I love how healthy and shiny your hair looks. After about a year of wanting to go natural and then chickening out I finally decided yesterday I am going natural. I told my husband about my decision and he was supportive of it. Thank goodness I final made up my mind because I have three months of new growth and a relaxer up stairs that is going in the trash. Thanks for your videos, they help calm my worries.
I LOVE this because it's quick, there's no endless detangling session beforehand - the finger detangling happens in the shower and is almost effortless, you're not using any "tools" so there's less shedding and its just super easy and quick and looks great in the morning. I have 4b/c and didn't think it would look good but it turned out great! Thank you, Naptural85!
I did it a little different and had the same results...cowashed, then sectioned my still dripping wet hair(no towel or shirt drying just squeezed excess water out in the shower) and applied Shea moisture conditioner as my leave in to all sections...then coconut oil to all sections, then shea moisture curling smoothie, all the while twisting the sections as I applied product and lightly detangling *dont twist too tight, I twisted tighter the nxt time and it looked more like a twist out thn curls. Overall w this method my hair looked the best it ever did, got sooo many compliments and it stayed soft and moisturized for days!
I just want to express that I REALLY enjoy following you. NO idiotic chit chat, You are so personable. You go straight to the subject. Your instructions are direct, pleasant and informative. Love you girl...Theresa from Chicago.
It took me a minute to find this oldie but goodie. I just did this with a few modifications: I shampooed and deep conditioned my hair while loose, then used Melanin leave in and hair oil to my defined hair. I twisted my soaking wet hair and am sitting with my hair under a T-shirt now before bed. I added product because my hair is super porous and dries out very easily. Hopefully you will update this as winter comes..Thanks!
I just want to say that this method is AMAZING, while I don't know if it will work for me - it's great that you share your methods still - great to hear new ways of doing things with our hair!
Eboni James I use Pantene for naturals, the Cowash one, and it's only 4.99 at Walmart and Target; love it. I use it as a leave in too. And I was bold and wore my hair out the next day, was compared to Donna Summer and Chaka Khan, so embracing my big hair; and my husband loves my hair like this.
Thank you, thank you! Because of you, I can now do a refresh and go. Shower, completely saturate hair, NO products added, 8 twists with the running water helping to detangle, done in under 30 minutes. Go to bed, wake up, untwist the dry hair, have beautiful, shiny, moisturized results. Thank you for this video that gave me the idea to experiment!
I do this method now. No, it is not a twist out. My natural curl pattern and the curl pattern a regular twist out give me are different. With this, you still see my 4a “s-curl” and ringlet(coils) shapes. My hair is just stretch and has amazing body. The key with this method is to twist your hair loosely, so that your hair does not take the form of the bends from the twist itself. When you do this, you should still see your curl pattern in the twists and not the hair smoothed and sleeked out while in the twist.
I tried this on my hair and my results didn't come out the same but it still looked awesome and is very moisturized.I only used 3 products. Acv mixed with equal parts water to clarify the scalp, shea moisture yucca and plantain strengthening mask let that sit for 30 minutes and after those two were rinsed from my scalp and hair I coated my twists in the shea moisture Jamaican black castor oil serum. At the end of the shower I sealed my cuticle with cold water. My hair feels amazing
I tried this last night. I was very sceptical but decided to give it a try anyway and it turned out great thank you so much for posting this it really helped...I used kinky curly and my curls are moist and defined
Tried this the other night and came out with excellent results!!! I used curling custard tho. My wash and go actually lasted all week and it was stretched! So glad I found this vid.
+Courtney Sanders Mine doesn't either. So I do the twists the night before and use the next day as a hat day. Then the rest of the week, untwisted. Since I also seal my wet hair with oil, this gives my hair a day to not be manipulated + no need to moisturize for the rest of the week. Something about my hat days lowers the need for me to moisturize. :)
+Courtney Sanders Most of the time my hair still is a little damp in the morning, so I started to use this method: pin the twists across your head( if you don't know what I mean, Naptural85 has a video on this), then put an oil of your choice on your scalp, put on a heat cap/plastic cap, and blow dry the twists for about 20 minutes before bed.
This process is now a staple in my hair routine. I do this for wash day it stretches the hair nicely and is versatile for how i style it after words. For styles where i need the hair wet i style right out of the shower, damp i style after the t-shirt, and dry i put the twists in a ponytail for further stretching and sleep with a scarf then manipulate into a style in the morning. this has made washing my hair an easier less time consuming and less dreaded process. Thanks.
So I do the same thing but I actually use product. I rinse out my deep conditioner apply curl enhancing smoothie and do 8-10 twists 4-5 on each side and let them dry completely
I did the wash and go method last night and unraveled it this morning. It came out Great!!! The only thing that was different for my hair was that it looked a little dry so I added a little oil. Also I didn't have the organic wash that u had but I used my cleansing conditioner that's similar to the wen product. Love this method!!!! It's very easy and it reduces the amount of time I'm in the shower.
I do this all the time!! I use my regular hair wash and leave-in conditioner. I don't have time in the morning to do the real "wash-n-go". Kids and trying to get to work, I just do it at night all the time. It is great. Yours came out great. Love your wave/curl definition!
I'm so excited to have come across this vid! I did exactly as directed (except I used conditioner). "Hitting the sack" now! We'll see how it turns out in the morning! Goodnight!
I absolutely love this WAG method, I've never had so much definition with my curls, and I even kept my twist in an extra day! Thanks so much for sharing ur hair secrets with the world...this is no way the same as an twist out for the people who said it was didn't give it a try...Thanks keep being a inspiration!
yay! it worked. i always wanted to try a wash and go, but i didn't want to walk around with wet hair. my hair is really short but too long to be considered a twa and it came out really nice. I used my shea moisture conditioner then when i rinsed in the shower i added vo5 conditioner before retwisting. thanks so much!!!!
I'm confused as to how you are able to rinse your hair while twisted, and the twists stay intact. I've tried this a couple of times with varying thickness of my twists and EVERY TIME, my twists unravel the second the water hits them. I'm also a 4a/4b and I believe my hair is as thick as yours although not as long (I'm collar bone length now); perhaps my hair is more porous than yours...? Any suggestions? +Naptural85 @Naptural85
+Shauna Rowland I think when she rinses each twist, she unravels to rinse and detangle, then retwists when done and then does the same to each twist. I hope that helps.
thank you for your comment, I was wondering the same thing. I will definitely try this style this week Any suggestion for another good product besides the "Mud Wash"?
Hi Naptural85, I am a guy and I LOVE these tutorials. I can't wait for my hair to get to that length, I think we have the same hair type, and watching these videos makes me so excited for what my hair will be able to do in 2 years!
brilliant! Wash and gos end up drying throughout the day anyway. Who says wash and go meant a style that we we had to wear straight out ofthe shower. This was perfect. I did a twist out on dried stretched hair and ended up moisturizing it too much after everything was styled. It came out like an overnight wash and go. Thanks for the visual aid of the winter wash and go and all your special videos..
***** I think it's great women are embracing their natural hair and beauty. It's better than worshiping the weave God and buying up fake hair trying to look European. Stop hating.....
+Nibbler800 woah c'mon now no one is worshiping hair. what's wrong with acknowledging you finally succeeded in creating a "perfect" neat hairstyle. Ur really looking too much into it
SpoiledCurlyGurl Black women wore weave, not too look European, but because we've only been taught to straighten our hair via relaxer, flat iron, or hot comb; wear braids, and/or wear fake hair. We were never taught to deal with our natural hair until now. The same can be said of black men, since u rarely see a black man doing his own hair. He has someone else braid it for him, start dreads, and/or keep it cut or texturized
I just tried this & I LOVE IT!!! I can't believe how good my hair look. It's incredibly soft, defined & full of body, this is truly wash & go hair. I can't thank you enough Whit you are truly a Godsend. :^)
your hair is so ideal for me! it's thick, healthy, shiny, and GORGEOUS!! I know i say this in practically all your videos but i can't help it. your hair and you are ravishing and thank you so much for continuously giving us informative creative videos with unique music
Defn tried this last night and it went very well, had to cheat a little bit by not sleeping in a satin bonnet or scarf, but instead sleeping on my satin pillow case so my hair would fully dry, great video, keep 'em coming!!!
Bless your Heart MRS. WHITNEY!!!!! I did a big chop again even after I had healthy hair, thinking TWA's were easier. Big Fail, I'm in ILLINOIS and the winter months are now here! lol I'm going back to my healthy length journey.I will be enjoying these videos along the way for my finally round!
Your beautiful just wanted to let you know that!! I've wanted so much to look like ya know everyone else with straight hair and now I see the harsh reality of my hair and the chemicals and heat and I'm trying to change it. Most of my family went natural and you make it look amazing, I will show my family this and I know they will be trying it soon! I know I will!!
Hi Naptural, This method definitely worked wonderfully with regular conditioner (I had used Organic Root Stimulator - Olive Oil Creamy Aloe Shampoo & Olive Oil Replenishing Conditioner). I had beautiful well defined curls with no heat, which to me is amazing! Also to me, it felt effortlessly achieved virtually. Thank you for sharing this great method as well as the How to maintain wash and go for 5 days or more.
YOU'RE VIDEOS ARE REVOLUTIONARY! Every product, regimen, or technique that has been "required" for natural hair are disproved to be essential thanks to your experimentation. I thank you, Natural85. *falls on knees and gives "we're not worthy" bow*
i was checking out your then and now length check #1, from 09'-11' i just can not believe one could achieve so much hair growth in two years. Your hair is beautiful
So I tried the spray bottle thing...not doing that ever again. My hair isn't "all natural" yet so that may be one of the problems. I had to resort to shampooing my dry hair in sections then using the spray bottle. I'm definitely seeing what my curl pattern is going to be like and I'm so excited. I found you through Curly Nikki and your hair is too gorgeous! Lord knows I commend you for the effort because this process is killing me!
I love this method! thank you so much for the tutorials! I was having an awful time of styling my natural hair, but after watching this and a few others, I have found out what works for me. I used olive oil deep conditioner and it works great!
If any of you were wondering, she did a later video with easy no fuss summer beach curls and used this same method, but w/ conditioner. I tried it and the results are very pleasing :)
Your videos inspire me. I will leave a video response too. I have 4C hair and I have found that I can follow your methods if my hair is in twists, but not on a twist out. i use eco styler on 90% dry hair. Thanks for all your beautiful vids and the detailed tutorials with natural products. Can't wait for my hair to get thicker. 8 months natural!
my shampoo is supposed to be coming via mail tomorro!!!i can't wait!!!that's the last organic product ive been waiting on for my hair!!!i love ur hair so much.i love my hair and my regimen!!!natural baby!!woot woot!
Beautiful! Keep on doing you! My co-worker has the same hair type as you, but it is a bit shorter. She seems discouraged at times. I continue to remind her that it's bee-u-tee-ful, but its like you folks who make it look possible. Thank you!
I never wanted to try a wash and go because i just didn't feel like it. But this one I wil definitely try ! It only takes 45 minutes, it's dry and no detangling. I can't wait to try this one. Thanks :) !
So I tried this last night with Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose condish since I didn't have your hair wash. It turned out great! More moisturized/defined but less greasy than my normal attempt at twist out and more stretched than my typical wash & go. Thaaaaannnnkkkksss!
I have been wearing my hair natural almost since birth. In fact, my sister has never had a perm or any chemical near her hair and our regimen is much different than yours. I have to say that although I enjoy your videos and I think that you are doing all natural hair women a great justice, I am not so sure about wetting the hair so much. In my case, as soon as I wet my hair it shrinks and the curl patter tightens. The other issue I have is oil and everybody hating on the old school Vaseline.
I completely agree with your explanation on why this is not a twist-out. You only prepared your hair for a wash, and a go. LOL! I can appreciate your esthetic approach towards natural hair care :)
So glad I found your channel and Essentials4you channel. I cut my hair two months ago and I am natural now, and have no clue what to do with short natural hair. Long natural hair? Yes. It's easy to manipulate long hair. But short hair, no way. Thank you for sharing.
Wow! This was great! I love this style. I'm still transitioning in my 11th month, but I can not wait to BC. I think the first style I'm gonna do is a wash n go! LOVE IT!!!
soooo I purchased the mud wash. Tried this wash and go and loved it! now i must say... it's not as cool on shorter hair but either way... i can already tell my hair will be super fabulous with this technique when it's longer. love the method, very quick and easy.
I've been using this method before i found this video except I've been using a thick conditioner and oil as my leave in. This would make my hair take sooo long to dry and I think the heavy product makes it dull. I will have to try this
I did this method with conditioner but aplied my leave in and styling product when twisting in smaller section. No combing, no disturbing the curls and the next morning my hair came out like yours. Just in a shorter version. lol Thanks for sharing!!!
this video has been very helpful. i've decided to go the natural hair route since i took it upon myself to do my own hair. i have been researching hair care and styles for the last couple years, so i thank you for making such a simple and concise video to help in that process. ^_^
Awesome! Thank you!! :)
P.s. The version I did with styling products does take longer to do AND to dry but I'm about to try your 5-day wash & go night routine and if it lasts a week hey, that's more than worth it! Thanks for that video too! :)
I did this method and I absolutely loved it! What I did was wash and condition my hair. After I was done washing my hair, I soaked up the excess water with a t-shirt. thanks for sharing im gonna be looking for the avoocado butter you mentioned lol
Avocado is one of the best products for dry, curly hair!! Hands down! Whether in oil or butter...it is awesome!
Did this with my daughters hair and she loved it, now my wife is hating on us lol.

Karen Minors Did they change the look of the bottles? I haven't seen them in about a month.
Monique west The bottle is still brown, I don't think it changed.

Tried it with conditioner and I was VERY pleased with the results. Great vid.
My hair will never dry before Morning
why
my don't either!! so frustrating.I'm thinking too much product. but when I don't use enough it looks dry.
+Courtney Sanders Mine doesn't either. So I do the twists the night before and use the next day as a hat day. Then the rest of the week, untwisted. Since I also seal my wet hair with oil, this gives my hair a day to not be manipulated + no need to moisturize for the rest of the week. I did this and my hair came out a hot ass mess
+Milaya Lamar I've been doing this method, so my hair would be prepared for school and it as been turning out very well.
So I do the same thing but I actually use product. I rinse out my deep conditioner apply curl enhancing smoothie and do 8-10 twists 4-5 on each side and let them dry completely
NikiaJaycee do you use the hair wash or conditioner?
😂😂😂😂😂
I did the wash and go method last night and unraveled it this morning. It came out Great!!! The only thing that was different for my hair was that it looked a little dry so I added a little oil. You are too beautiful! Sorry, I'm a 24 year old black man and this is one of the few places where i get to see natural black women lol.
I do this all the time!! I use my regular hair wash and leave-in conditioner. I don't have time in the morning to do the real "wash-n-go". Kids and trying to get to work, I just do it at night all the time. It is great. Yours came out great. Love your wave/curl definition!
I just realized how she ties her scarf and I realized it's much more comfy than the reg pirate way lol
I forgot all about this method!!! Wow...I'm so glad that I pulled up this video again!...Thanks Girl!
Reminds me of a "chunky twist-out".. But hey, tomato/tom(ah)to, lol. Looks fab!
lol I was thinkin the same!
I'm so excited to have come across this vid! I did exactly as directed (except I used conditioner). "Hitting the sack" now! We'll see how it turns out in the morning! Goodnight!
I still love this video
I absolutely love this WAG method, I've never had so much definition with my curls, and I even kept my twist in an extra day! Thanks so much for sharing ur hair secrets with the world...this is no way the same as an twist out for the people who said it was didn't give it a try...Thanks keep being a inspiration!
it's called a WINTER wash and go for a reason , you can't go outside with your hair freshly washed without getting sick in the winter.
yay! it worked. i always wanted to try a wash and go, but i didn't want to walk around with wet hair. my hair is really short but too long to be considered a twa and it came out really nice. I used my shea moisture conditioner then when i rinsed in the shower i added vo5 conditioner before retwisting. thanks so much!!!!

I know Right
Yeah I think the factors are the porosity, and the length.
+Shauna Rowland I think when she rinses each twist, she unravels to rinse and detangle, then retwists when done and then does the same to each twist. I hope that helps.
She unraveled them and detangled, THEN re twisted.
thank you for your comment, I was wondering the same thing. I will definitely try this style this week
Any suggestion for another good product besides the "Mud Wash"?
Hi Naptural85,
I am a guy and I LOVE these tutorials. I can't wait for my hair to get to that length, I think we have the same hair type, and watching these videos makes me so excited for what my hair will be able to do in 2 years!
I love this, but it's definitely not a wash and go. It's an amazing twist out!
My hair is in this stage right now
I LOVE your hair. The thickness is heavenly.
Isn't this a twist out?
That's what I was thinking
Val aunaturale lol thought i was the only one thinking that haha! cute though :)
Lol right. I guess there is no true overnight wash and gos
Katherine Osere GIRL .... that's what im sittin here scratching my head saying..... aint this just a chunky undefined twistout!!!
For a twist out you would have to put in a product to hold the shape of the twist.
SOOOOO.... I tried this last night & it works out perfect! loved im never doing a regular wash n go
More like wash and twist and go to bed get up in the morning untwist and go. Lol. But I get that it gives the wash and go look. Nice!
I love you Whitney your tutorials are so easy to follow, and your hair growth has been ridiculous! You're such an inspiration, thank you.
a twist out pretty much
Not exactly
As usual, you keep it real with simple and attainable routines. Your hair is beautiful.
twist out?
I love your natural hair and I also love how wonderful your styles come out! Natural beauty!
Only Jesus and God are perfect
Oh get a grip. If you were going to make a stupid comment why bother even watching the video?
***** I think it's great women are embracing their natural hair and beauty. It's better than worshiping the weave God and buying up fake hair trying to look European. Stop hating.....
NoelleKuhoric yall are fucking crazy. whats wrong with calling a hairstyle perfect? get help
Ok, this is pretty much a twist out, not a wash n go.
your hair is so ideal for me! it's thick, healthy, shiny, and GORGEOUS!! I know i say this in practically all your videos but i can't help it. your hair and you are ravishing and thank you so much for continuously giving us informative creative videos with unique music
She looks like woopie
😂😂😂😂
I love using this technique and love the neo soul music.
That hair wash is hands down the BEST hair product I've ever used. Thanks for telling us about it!
Defn tried this last night and it went very well, had to cheat a little bit by not sleeping in a satin bonnet or scarf, but instead sleeping on my satin pillow case so my hair would fully dry, great video, keep 'em coming!!!
Do you know I done this before accidentally, and love it so this is how I always do my wash and gos. I love your curls, beautiful hair!!!
I love the fact that you are advertising Teisha Marie! I am a huge fan of hers!
your hair is beautiful!
I tried this wash and go method last night with my conditioner and it worked just as well! I've gotten compliments on my hair too!
Teisha Marie is one of my fav new neosoul artists. And she is from my area. I love her!
Your hair always look soooooo shinny, moisturized and well defined
Thanks :) !
honestly i've watched so many of ur videos and they never get stale
This is literally thee PERFECT wash n go! Love this!!
So I tried this last night with Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose condish since I didn't have your hair wash. It turned out great! More moisturized/defined but less greasy than my normal attempt at twist out and more stretched than my typical wash & go. Thaaaaannnnkkkksss!
I could watch you wash & go and talk about it, all day.
I try so hard not to have hair envy but with your hair, it's almost IMPOSSIBLE for me. Love, love, love your hair!
I want to go natural ( for now anyway) and your tutorial is easy to follow. Thank you for assisting me in my journey.
I tried this last night with VO5 conditioner and it was a hit! Love the ease and simplicity. Thanks for the suggestion.
You probably get this compliment a thousand times a day, yet it must be said for the thousand and first time:
you are one beautiful woman
I completely agree with your explanation on why this is not a twist-out. You only prepared your hair for a wash, and a go. LOL! I can appreciate your esthetic approach towards natural hair care :)
awwwwwwww texture jealousy over here!!!!!! i wish my hair was as textured as yours! GORGEOUS
Stunning results! I can't wait to see how you maintain this style.
You always pick the best music! Love it! Beautiful hair results!
LOVE IT!!!
You have ridiculously gorgeous hair! Look at that shine!
this took me SO long, i really hope it looks good in the morning
soooo I purchased the mud wash.
I will have to try this
i love this, Im trying to go natural and have always wondered how the curls stay in the hair after a wash. nice one.
I did this method with conditioner but aplied my leave in and styling product when twisting in smaller section. No combing, no disturbing the curls and the next morning my hair came out like yours. Just in a shorter version. lol Thanks for sharing!!!
ugh! I so LOVE your hair! I can not wait until my hair gets to this length! Thanks for such great videos!
currently laying in bed with my bags and scarf on. excited about 2moro morning. I love your videos!
Thank you for the great tips! I have "hair envy". Thank you for your diligence in bringing easy to follow and sound videos. Keep up the great work!
I'm trying this method right now only using conditioner and flaxseed gel can't wait to see how it comes out in the morning thanks for making this
this video has been very helpful. i've decided to go the natural hair route since i took it upon myself to do my own hair. i have been researching hair care and styles for the last couple years, so i thank you for making such a simple and concise video to help in that process. ^_^
love love love the texture of your hair!!! and this style of wash n go is a great easy process i love it
