  • Help your ears and your safety and buy couplers like this.
    They are not cheap but what is these days?
    Both are amazing couplers but the Parkers seem a lot better but are they worth more then twice the money.
    I guess it really depends on how many you need.

    It seems that most of the content in your video is regarding the noise from coupling/decoupling air fittings where you expel the volume of air inside the hose. In my experience, 99% of the air coupling/decoupling in most shops occurs at the tool level. This is usually where the tool has a male end and the hose has a female end. The hoses are usually attached at the wall (or ceiling) and are rarely uncoupled. You aren't usually dumping the entire volume of air from the hose.
    I don't usually hear much more than a brief "tsssst" or "pop" so I'm baffled as to what the concern is. What am I missing?
    Also, in my 35 years of working with air tools, I have NEVER seen anything whip around when disconnected. Not to say it can't happen, but I just can't imagine a situation where it could possibly occur.

    The “junk” couplers I got from HF seem to be holding up quite well and they duplicate the function of the Milton 5-in-1 and allow for safe (and quiet) bleeding of pressure. I know the Prevosts are good, but when you need to buy half a dozen couplers, it’s an upgrade that might not be worth it for many of us.

    Perhaps a ten dollar in line back flow valve near the male end of the long shop hose will keep it from gushing air when removed from a wall connector and eliminate the need for expensive quiet female connectors around the shop walls.

    Maybe more upfront cost but a manifold system with two or three hoses would be nice... Just prevent having to change tools over as often to begin with. The older I get, the less careless I get, and the more appreciation I have for what good ear and eye protection can do.

      Yeah that would probably make it a lot easier.
      Me to I definitely try to wear hearing protection and safety glass vs when I was younger.

    Thanks for the video. Home Depot has a Husky version of those Prevost. I've been using them with no problems for 4 years. Home Depot still sells them.

      @@Tools-Tested Harbor Freight also has a safety coupler that I bought but haven't used yet. It's item 57571. It's part of their new "Merlin" line of air fittings, which I guess is supposed to be higher quality than Central Pneumatic fittings.

      Interesting I will have to look for that next time I’m in there.
      Thanks!

    Besides the difference in noise a huge difference between the Parker/prevost and the original coupler is that both prevost and Parker have dual stage release system compared to the original one that can whip around and is dangerous at times.

      @Tools-Tested  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep defiantly can if you don't have a good hold on the hose. Just another reason to buy a safety coupler.

    Milton V style fittings are nice. Large high flow openings collars stays open when disconnected for easy one hand connecting. Flexilla has a high flow system that looks to be similar.

      Yeah I was surprised by the flow from the Milton V. I will have to check Flexilla's system out thanks!

    do manufacturers not make a captured exhaust for air fittings? They do for hydraulics.

    • @Tools-Tested
      @Tools-Tested  ปีที่แล้ว

      The Prevost will defect most of the exhaust out a hole in the side. Other safety couplers tend to dump the air out the end towards the fitting.

    In my experience, I'm working with (apparently) lower psi pressures, so for me, it's only a safety and ease of use issue.
    As a result, I went with an even cheaper, all metal option: Milton S-1750 Safety Exhaust Coupler
    There's no way I'm airing completely down just to switch tools.
    Great video! More options to choose from.

    I've bought some decent inexpensive items at HF and as many inexpensive items of crap that go into the trash which offsets any savings from the "okay" items.
    I've finally eliminated the problem by not wasting my time going there and stick to the big box and local hardware store.

    • @Tools-Tested
      @Tools-Tested  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep it’s always a gamble at HF. You also have to count the lost time going to get another tool to replace it.
