I don't even get the idea of some parents just leaving their child unattended and just leaving, that alone should be a security call.

I used to be a librarian for a few years. Every summer, parent would drop their children off and go to work or whatever else they wanted to do. These kiddos would be unsupervised for over 8 hours. Some of the parent used to drop their kid off before the library was open, and the child had to wait outside until we opened. We would tell them to wait in front of the glass door so we could try and keep an eye on them. One of our custodial service reps told a child, in a respectable manner, to stop running in the library. The mother was told and she came into the library with a knife. The police were called. It ridiculous what some parents are capable of. This is one of the reasons why I found another job.

That mother should should have been thankful that guy alerted security. She was definitely would not have been a victim if the kid was kidnapped. I had an interview for a very good pay job. I passed the test and was approved to receive the job. However, at the orientation it was required that we make a social media page. I told the one orientating that that I will never be a member of a true social media network. A semi-anonymous TH-cam rant is the closest I would get and that is a video sharing network that allows commentary. The woman then told me it was a requirement to work there. I simply stood up and said, "Thank you for your time," and left. I do not know why a social media network page was a requirement for a job servicing, repairing, and configuring communication equipment. I never asked. I will never have a true social media network page. I know nobody. Nobody knows me. I have no family in the continent I reside. There is no reason to have a drama net account.

He indirectly admitted to stalking a bunch of us online to make sure what we posted "fit the culture" of his fast food franchise chain. I read a story on Reddit where a firefighter responded to a fire at a grocery store, and he witnessed a customer not only refuse to evacuate the store, but she was screaming in a manager’s face (the manager of the department _where the fire was_ mind you) because she wanted to shop in that section and couldn’t. OP walked straight up to the woman and yelled “F*** OFF!” in her face because he knew the manager couldn’t do it. The customer actually called OP’s boss and filed against him, but he only got a mild lecture about screaming the f-word at people.

Not really lose a job, but I have a related story.
I live in Israel, and we have mandatory army service- but orthodox Jewish women don't have to serve, since army service may not allow them to keep their religious lifestyle and modesty (before y'all jump in with how it's a petty excuse, many of them volunteer for service or volunteer to help the community in other places like hospitals or schools instead of the army).
Anyway, apparently there were multiple cases where women claimed to be orthodox so they wouldn't have to serve; but then the officers checked their Facebook and found pictures in bikinis and stuff like that, so they got caught lying and were forced to enlist.

Another healthcare instance - i worked at a place where one of the nurses who care for children posted they couldn't believe they had taken care of the child of a guy on a local sports team. She didn't name the team, or the guy, but only one athlete in the area had a child that age who was in the hospital. Even though she didn't name anyone specifically, the patient was still identifiable, so she was fired. And for nurses (and doctors or PTs, or anyone with a license), these things are ethics violations that can get your license revoked and destroy your career.

Police came, took child away. Mom came back FOUR HOURS later, panic set in. I simply handed her a card the police gave me to give to her.

I was at a pool party, I wore a thong one piece swimsuit. As I was getting out of the pool, unbeknownst to me someone had snapped a photo of me from behind, with the side of my face visible (my head was turned). The photo was uploaded, shared to a lot of people at my workplace (a coworker’s cousin was at the party and took the photo). I myself don’t use social media, except for TH-cam and one other place (not a major platform).
My bosses, many of the guys, and a few of the women at my workplace kept staring at me with s* eating grins after that. They didn’t say anything, I wasn’t fired, but it was the final push I needed to move on to greener pastures, day job wise, albeit it was much more soon than expected.

I was lectured in my public university that I would never get a job as a teacher in my state if I didn’t have a church on my social media bio. Middle of the Bible Belt. I asked my supervisor about the 1st Amendment and the “not compel” clause. She said it doesn’t count for teachers and that parents wouldn’t trust me if I wasn’t a certain brand of christian. Had a former classmate fired for being gay in that same school district in spite of being a very effective math teacher, but I guess being outside the norm for that hick town was too extreme for the school district.
So it was more of what WASN’T there than what was.

used to work at an apple store there was an area with tables and ipads with games so kids would play with them while their parents were going to what was called the genius bar at the time or shopping inside the store. well parents would drop their kids there and actually go shopping for hours elsewhere inside the mall expecting us to keep and eye on their kids as if we were daycare. the store leader had to ask his managers to call security everytime this happened (a lot) so they could take the child to their little room in the mall and call for their parents on the mic, if they didn't come pick their child up the police was called and parents given a speech by the police cause if we dared to say anything about the store not being a daycare the parents would lash out at us. that extent of not being willing to understand that you can't do that how it's dangerous for their child and disrespectful to employees is just mind blowing and infuriating. I need to ask reddit: parents who leave their kids in one store so they can go shopping somewhere else in peace for hours what makes you think this is safe and ok ? yall are on crack would be my guess but that's generous that'd mean they actually are impared by substances when they are probably just indecent human beings

Some of these posts are stunning at best. The idea that you can be fired for a social media post? In some ways I guess it’s not all that surprising considering if you’re not bright enough to not post illegal stuff you’re doing then I get it. This is why I don’t do ANYTHING on social media anymore. I don’t post or nothing. Even when I did I tried to keep posts vague and never EVER mention names. There are consequences to what you say. Of course you do have the first amendment but freedom of speech doesn’t exempt you from freedom of consequence so be careful.
