Solar sings chest to mixed voice and her head voice is weaker, naturally having mid range but STRONG belts. Wheein sings mixed to head voice with weaker chest voice, with her range as high as the whistle notes. Wheein's chest voice isn't as strong as Solar's. They are both good singers doing different things. Hwasa is somewhere in between with great vocal colour and flair. Moonbyul can only do chest to mixed with very limited head voice capabilities, thus having the lowest range, but her low notes are LOW, adding base to the sound :) GREAT balance as a group

this is the difference between wheein and solar and why i think this should be the reason ppl need to stop saying one particular member as a main vocalist. Solar is more outburst with her singing, she can do powerful high notes but lacks details (you can see it in this videos), she has difficulties nailing the little runs that wheein can do. Wheein on the other hand, she's amazing with details and technique, but for some reason she's maybe a bit self concious with doing powerful high notes, so that bit often goes to solar, hence why ppl always seem to think that solar is the main vocalist, even though high notes are not all there is about singing
From what I see, people usually say that they are both main vocalists and are pretty much on the same tier. They both have strengths where the other has weaknesses. Solar can do runs just fine. Not as well as Wheein. But Wheein probably has one of the best mix and falsettos in kpop. Whereas Solar's belts are unrivalled and strangely enough, healthy for the most part. Solar is efficient in her mix and falsettos as she showed in honey. It's just not her go to. And Wheein seems to lack the forward outbursts and power in her belts. It’s not that she lacks “details” her voice and wheeins voice are completely different. Wheein has what you’d call a mutable vocal range. In other words extremely flexible vocal cords, so she can dip her toe in many directions. Main vocal is a Industry thing, everyone knows by now that mamamoo is a group of 4 solo artists that are very very different. WheeIn has done countless powerful belts (like in Anymore, Goodbye, Da Ra Da, Narcissus, etc) it's just that there's been quite a change in her singing preferences itself.

I love how this video shows that there is no true best singer of all time, or in one generation of music, or one genre, etc. Solar is an extremely talented vocalist, definitely ONE of the best in her generation of singers, but there is still stuff that Wheein can do and that Hwasa can do with their voices that Solar cannot, and it's the same way with Wheein compared to Hwasa and Solar, or Hwasa compared to Solar and Wheein. Even if you view somebody as the #1 greatest, no artist can conquer every field or every style or every technique, and that's okay. Solar not being able to achieve Wheein's high notes in this clip doesn't remove any of Solar's other talents and it doesn't decrease her value as a professional singer, it just shows the difference between how the two women approach their singing style. It's still a lot of fun to try out new things as a vocalist though, and it is also a good learning opportunity.

That one particular section is a fast & fairly complex melisma, Wheein has the most agile voice in the group thanks to her mixed voice being the least chesty & pushy. Solar on the other hand has a rather chesty mixed voice with pushed resonance, so these melismatic sections can be challenging for me. You can see that Solar simplifies that vocal run section into a straight note belt, which is a smart decision to deliver a solid vocal performance. Another great example is the falsetto riffs in the choruses of their new title track Illella. Wheein delivers a more “complete” melodic riff (7 notes) while Solar simplifies the riff into 5 notes instead for sake of cleanliness.
