2000-2006 Chevrolet Tahoe / GMC Yukon NHTSA Moderate Overlap Crash Test (37.5 Mph)

  • A series of Injury Risk Assessment tests performed to analyze the risk of injuries between 50th Percentile Male and 5th Percentile Female occupants.
    Performed on 11/29/2001, this test assesses the THOR-Lx dummy in a 40% Moderate Overlap frontal crash test. Both Driver and Passenger are 50th Percentile Male Hybrid III dummies with THOR-LX legs. The speed was 60.35 Km/h (37.5 Mph).
    Occupant Readings:
    Driver - Passenger
    HIC 373 - 282
    Chest G's 46 - 36
    Chest Disp (mm) 21 - 24
    Femur Loads (N - L/R) 6303/4254 - 4066/1313

    A friend of mine had a Silverado around this vintage, head on crash with a Durango at 45-50mph both drivers walked away without even a scratch. Crash tests are not the end all be all. The real world is.

      You don’t get the point the crash tests are done to show what can happen to the cars in an accident while it’s not likely that you’ll get injured the possibility is higher for that vehicle due to the A pillar buckling

      It matters how much overlap there was. If they cars were fully overlapping he would most likely be ok, if it was partially overlapping it would have seriously injured both of the lower legs.

      @@fastingpinoy546 a real world situation reduces the size of the average vehicle you would run into. the odds of running into something as big, are there, but smaller than the odds of running into something much smaller. These trucks get in wrecks on the road, and we witness it. they handle wrecks well simply due to their size. If two full sized SUVs smash into eachother at speed, idc what brand the SUV is, the people are gonna be hurt without a Mirical. Id even say the durango vs yukon the guy mentioned above was a Mirical situation

    Thanks for this upload! I was always wondering how these huge SUV's would perform in standard crash tests.
    And it was just a moderate overlap test - what would happen in a small overlap 😣

      Small overlap test would be devastating. I have a 2004 yukon but it's not my daily driver anymore.

    This would probably earn a Marginal like the Silverado it was based on. That being said, in the real world it's more likely that these will hit something smaller.

    I’d say maybe just maybe an acceptable rating. Minor injures to the neck and head due to hitting the B pillar. And possible injures to the knees and legs. To be honest you’d survive this but you won’t just straight up walk it off.

    I got bored so I slammed my Tahoe into a concrete wall (I was getting a new bumper as it was a project and the wall needed to come down, took the srs fuse out obviously) and I slammed into it, chipped the wall good and the bumper didn't even have a dent.

      the 2003-2006 are pretty different mechanically compared to the 2000-2002 chevy tahoes

      Yes with new included Bose sound systems, double din radio relocated on star antenna, complety diffrent interior wiring, gauge cluster is different two tone interior is different a lot of small things were changed

      Super good!!! It will be totaled if you get in a accident any worse than a fender bender, but it is very safe and absorbs all the energy

      If this test is any indication, the Tahoe will typically perform about as well as the Silverado it's based on. The 2007-2013 Silverado earned a Good rating, so the 2007-2014 Tahoe will probably perform similarly.

      Probably earlier ones. It might have been an option for the 2000 model year. It was option package ZY2 on Silverado. You can easily do this two tone yourself. The color is sunset gold.

    I had a 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe battalion chief suv at the suburban Chicago fire department I served at for 35 years it was in regular service from 2000-18 a show and back up rig 2018-20 when destroyed in George Floyd protests and riots

    I was in a moderate overlap crash at about this speed on my way to school with my mom one time. She was not wearing her seatbelt and the airbags did not deploy. Niether of us were injured though the front of the vehicle looked about like this car by the time we came to a stop. The truck we hit was pretty analogous, and it of course was almost unscathed.

    If it hit a sedan the sedan will loose.
    Like the Town and Country vans (voyager in Europe) it has a 1 star ranking here but destroy a 5 star car..
    My 1997 explorer destroy a BMW 1
    My 2015 Chrysler TC destroy a BMW 1
    My 2007 Chrysler TC destroy a Volvo XC60
    My Chrysler Sebring survived a wild boar with a scratch and blood through the whole front end.
    And every car is very bad in a crash test.
    I work as a car body mechanic in germany, i see lot of accident cars…

      The type is too old, most cars show same safety at that time. Also, i think this car is too heavy which impact the crash test.

      This is still safer than the 2001 ford F-150. I also saw a pattern with all 1998-2003 cars, they all care about the tyres more than the actual driver

    The thing is these are simulating a crash with a barrier that has the weight of a damn semi so this is worst case scenario in reality

      The forces in the test are similar to those that would result from a frontal offset crash between two vehicles of the same weight, each going just under 37 mph.
