Inmotion V11: Pumping the Air Shock

  • My tips on how to pump up the air shocks on the V11, both the main (positive) and the negative chambers, as well as tips on how to determine the negative chamber pressure. Official Inmotion recommendation chart at the end. Thus far Inmotion has suggested 50 psi for the negative chamber for all riders, which I don't think utilizes the suspension to it's full potential, for most riders.

    I saw some early model v11 and it came with the pump with the nozzle close switch, new pumps in the late winter batches don't have the switch. FYI if there are any heavier riders 125 KG I roll with 50 on top and 180-190 on the bottom.

      The newer pump has a different mechanism, but it does have a dual release system as well. The valve cylinder screws out in two separate parts. Inmotion has a video on their channel about how to use it.

    just a thought but what do think about adding a couple of valve extenders to the upper shocks? Zip tie it to something so it doesn't move around & we can check & refill without removing the saddle. This is what I'd do (or at least try out) if/when I get a V11.
    If you do try it out, do let me know if it works.

    • @akirintamaki7325
      @akirintamaki7325 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The top chamber only has a small volume of air, which the extender would increase. It might affect how the suspension works.
      You only need to remove the upper saddle bolts so you can pull the saddle outwards for half an inch. No need to remove the whole saddle.

    Hello! Thanks for your videos! Very useful information. I guess you have experience with inmotion v11. I have just bought this EUC and encountered an issue: when I turn on it says "Overload please get off". The battery voltage on each battery is different which is 85,6V on battery 1 and 85,5V on battery 2. It tilts backwards and does not let me to ride. Do you think it is the BMS failure? The manual says " Intelligent BMS", but if it has this function how it could not prevent it from Overloading? I worry if I got the defective EUC now...

    • @mrelwood_EUC
      @mrelwood_EUC  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The voltage metering in your V11 is badly calibrated. The wheel thinks that the batteries are at an overvoltage. They shouldn’t be over 84V, so the wheel thinks there’s a danger.
      Contact the seller and they should arrange a remote calibration with Inmotion.

    Hey nice information man !
    One question: i bought a used v11 and the bearing is litle bit noisy. I ordered new one.But it's normal that i push way harder the v11 than my v10f? I'm only 55kg. For my v10f i don't need any pads but for the v11 i need pads. What can i do? Hope you know what i mean. Thanx bye

    • @mrelwood_EUC

      Congrats on the V11! It’s still my favorite wheel of all time. Too bad the bearings are noisy, but the only problem with them is the noise. So no need to rush to change them until you get fed up with the sound.
      V10F is a 16x2.5” wheel, while V11 is 18x3”. The outer tire diameter is roughly 20% larger, so you need to lean 20% further to get the same acceleration and braking. 18” and larger wheels always need pads in my opinion, and with your very light weight they are an absolute necessity. Check this video:
      th-cam.com/video/d3bf_kPHeiw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=eg4zi5IjWLOjPF6u
      You can make the V11 accelerate easier by softening up the ride mode, and using the acceleration and braking assists. Check especially this video:

    How to set the pressure in suspension and also the tires for a total beginner learning on V11 ?

    • @mrelwood_EUC
      @mrelwood_EUC  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Do you mean which pressures to use? There are guidelines for the shock pressures in the user manual, and even on the bottom of the pedals in some batches. But generally based on my experiences, top chamber always 50-60psi, bottom chamber 60psi for a 60 kg rider, and 160psi for a 110kg rider. You can calculate from there: 60 + (weight -60) *2.
      For the stock tire, I’ve found 35psi to work the best for a 110kg rider, and 27psi for a 60kg rider. So 28 + (weight -60) *0.16.
      But these both depend a lot on where and how you ride. Only use them as a baseline if you don’t have any idea just yet. If you ride over sharp edges like curbs, you need either a good technique or more tire pressure.

    The new supplied pump cannot attach to the top chambers, and therefore cannot fill them. Have tried everything.

    • @mrelwood_EUC
      @mrelwood_EUC  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What exactly is preventing the pump from attaching? Does it work on the bottom chambers? Check the usuals:
      - Remove the side saddles completely for better access.
      - The pump has a two step attachment nozzle. Are you familiar with how it’s supposed to work?
      - If the red nuts around the top valves are loose, they could stop the pump from going in deep enough. Tighten the nuts.
      - If the pump itself is faulty, it’s a part of your purchase and therefore handled by warranty. Contact your seller.
      - Shock pumps can be bought for as cheap as 25€. Ride to a local bicycle shop and ask if you can test if their pumps fit. If they don’t, ask if they could quickly check what the issue is.

    What if I wanted to ride a tiny bit lower to the ground? Am I correct to lower my pedals by putting more in the upper chamber and less in top? I weight 78 kg and my plan is to put 60 psi in upper and 100 psi in bottom chamber.

    • @mrelwood_EUC
      @mrelwood_EUC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m sure you meant to type “more in the upper and less in the BOTTOM”, which would indeed do exactly what you wish. Do consider though that by lowering the sag the suspension behavior changes pretty fast, and you will soon no longer get the plushy ride that the V11 is known for. Worth a try though!

    • @kamer7pl
      @kamer7pl 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mrelwood_EUC yeah, I meant bottom. Sorry wrote that in a hurry. I'll start testing that configuration soon. I like that magic carpet plushy feeling of V11 but also like to feel planted to the road so have to find some compromise between them. Thank you for your feedback.

    • @kamer7pl

      @@mrelwood_EUC Is it a big mistake if I pumped the upper chamber first? Unfortunately my suspension pump stopped working so I have to ride to the nearest bike shop every time to adjust it before they send me a new one (or reimburse cost as the wheel still has a warranty). I'm currently testing 60 psi in upper and 80 psi in bottom chamber but I want to get even lower to the ground. Should I pump more in upper or deflate bottom? V11 without air in the suspension is almost as nimble as KS 16X but the suspension bottoms up.

    • @mrelwood_EUC
      @mrelwood_EUC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pumping the top first is ok as long as the bottom already has some pressure. If the suspension moves while pumping the bottom, the top needs to be rechecked.
      A suitable new shock pump (with a dual function valve) can be bought for about $20. Maybe just buy one?
      It sounds a bit like you are trying to get the V11 to be something it’s not designed for. The best ride you can get out of it is a properly set up suspension, but it sounds like you are now moving away from it.
      Your bottom pressure is so low, that I would rather put more in the top chamber than to deflate the bottom. You could even try 80/80 psi.

    • @kamer7pl
      @kamer7pl 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mrelwood_EUC I'd rather sacrefice some of the suspension just to ride a little bit lower. It solves all my V11 complaints - I ride in the city and being too high makes low speed sidewalk steering odd. A stinky compromise is what I'm looking for, I don't like the feeling of standing on top of the wheel, disconnected from the road. I believe that being lower you can still preserve some of the suspension :)
