Layton Junction Absolutely Al, personally I think this has changed our hobby no end and I for one am so pleased that the horrible mixture of couplings is now gone and I can have one style that will connect together anything I have without any issues. Thanx for this Video. I have been converting my Rolling stock to a American style coupling ( avoiding using brand nsme) but they are a Tad fiddly. These are so basic, its Brilliant so that even this Half Blind ( without Glasses) could fit and use them.. The ease of Decoupling is Fabulous. I was unaware of this Style untill yesterday. And your the 3rd User to have Proven the Couplings Simplicity. ( And first without anything to gain..! True, Honest, no Bias Reveiw..!) Living in Australia things tend to Trickle Down to the Other End of the Planet over time. So your Un sponsored advice is Greatly Appreciated. So the 'Hunt' is on for a Variety of Hunt Couplers. Impressive review and even a more impressive demonstration.Sadly I will not be giving up on my weathered N/A Kadee couplers .But when you think about it ,what a massive step forward from Hornby couplers of the 1950’s!

Something that might be worth mentioning: the new "Elite" couplers will *also* couple to the original "A" or "B" Hunt couplings. That saves changing any stock which you've already fitted with the originals, especially if you're running fixed formations. What I think is so great about this whole "Hunt couplings" thing is: it's a problem that we've all suffered since since the early days of Tri-ang and it's been soled, not by a multimillionaire manufacturer, but by a modeller. He's not got it "nearly right", waiting for the big boys to perfect it, he's absolutely nailed it. Presumably now, he can name his price if he's prepared to let Hornby, Bachmann etc supply his couplings on their stock. After a year or two, absolutely *nobody* is going to want tension locks. HUGE congratulations to Hunt Couplings and farewell to ugly, clunky tension locks that cause derailments and look awful. Cheers for now, Dougie.
2H80vids I couldn’t agree more with you Dougie, I think these couplers are a real game changer. I’m not bothered by wanting an automatic uncoupler as I just don’t do shunting and so all my existing stock is being gradually moved over to these couplings, I have a miss-match of various shapes and sizes of D link couplings, Kadee’s etc which are all going or have now gone, eventually there will only be Hunt couplings throughout all my stock. These are not for everyone which I can appreciate especially if folk are determined to use auto uncouplers but at least now we all have a better choice to choose from. What I like about them apart from the obvious is the rigidity of the whole rake, there is no shuffling back and forth as the train moves - unlike what you see with D link couplings. May I suggest you get a couple of packets at different lengths just to try them out once you are sorted out with the layout, that way you will then get an idea if they are for you or not without much cost to you. Hi Graham, Certainly a great new product and adds another degree of versatility & flexibility for coupling and uncoupling locos and rolling stock. The only slight criticism I have is that separation of wagons etc has to be done physically by hand, whereas the Kadee couplers have the ability to disengage automatically when a magnetic strip is placed strategically between the rails, but this system has its draw backs because unless the magnetic strips are placed in the right place uncoupling still has to be done by hand. If Hunt couplings could come up with an automatic method of uncoupling method similar to the Kadees they would be on an absolute winner. In the meantime I can still see a lot of modelers changing over to the Hunt couplers especially if they have the current British tension lock couplers. Great video mate. Cheers Greg
Gregory Hale Good morning Greg, I am sure that Chris will be working on some form of uncoupler in the future for the ‘shunter’ guys out there but for me then there is no need for one, especially if I can just uncouple by using one finger. If someone wants to uncouple automatically (why?) then these couplers are not for them and are better off using another form of coupler that allows for automatic uncoupling. When people are watching on say a video or at an exhibition then I can see why an uncoupler is of use but having said that then I see folk at exhibitions leaning over the track (normally over a back scene with a long stick trying to uncouple stock. So yes, you are right, at the moment then Kadee’s offer that facility but I’m sure, given time, then an uncoupler will make its appearance. I have taken off all my Kadee couplers and replaced them with these Hunt couplers as for me, they work better but that’s the great thing these days, we now have multiple choices to suit our own individual needs and requirements and that can only be a good thing. Good honest review rather than those who jump up and down and say they are brilliant. I have designed my own NEM pockets for older stock and those that are made without NEM pockets so people can use these, hunts, Kadees or what ever... NEM converters available directly through me.

That's brilliant Graham, they certainly don't sit on their bums do they. Me and the grandkids like to do lots of shunting so this could be the answer. My only other problem is we have a great deal of old rolling stock so it would be quite a job glueing and screwing. But hay that's thought for the future. Yes there are other alternatives around which people can use and most I have tried, but these for me are the most simplest and convenient couplings I have used so far. I don’t do shunting as such but all I need to do is use one finger to disconnect anything - I really don’t need auto uncouplers although I’m sure others would. As with all things in this world we have choices and different needs, not one thing suits all but as for me then these new Hunt couplings are a godsend and I will certainly be using them through my stock eventually. Instead of waiting for something to derail or go wrong then I have complete confidence in them, so much so that going in reverse at full whack was immensely satisfying and bought a smile to my face. A real game changer. Yes, I’m sure Chris will be working on some form of uncoupler but to be honest, I don’t need it, I can just uncouple where ever I want with just one finger, you can’t get anything simpler than that. the best class 37 out there! and perfect loco for doing this video with. with Chris Hunt being a fellow modeler, he understands and pays attention to what is going on in the hobby. Now he just has to hit the North american market, and take on the Kadee market place. not sure how that would go over mind you. many people like the realistic look of a kadee They are brilliant couplers.

Now we need a standard for mounting these so we can take them to the club on a Tuesday night and they will work with everybody else's wagons. Is it always shiny side up or shiny side down? and if you paint them, how do we know which is the standard up and standard down? I suggest Mr Hunt considers a "bump" or dimple or something on "top" or "bottom". Maybe a bump on top and dimple on bottom?
Did you glue them into the socket? I’ve just ordered two packs based on this video but several simply pull out if the sockets when being pulled around, magnets seem strong enough but the actual clips aren’t! Plus two have broken 😢 not sure they’re a very durable material. For £35 for two packets I expected them to be trouble free.
Hi Dave and thanks for the comment. This video was made over three years ago and like you, I have since found out that although the concept was a good idea, the manufacture of them wasn’t so good, as they were 3D printed then the plastic used was too brittle and I had a few breakages too. I now have a box full of them doing nothing and have converted over to the Hornby magnetic coupling (see my last video I put up a couple of days ago) and these are so much better. They are disguised to very similar to vacuum pipes rather than just being straight bits of plastic and are no where as brittle and so no breakages when using them. Hope that helps a little. There's also their new Multi Standard Coupler - a magnet with a hole behind it that allows a Tension Hook to couple to it. Perfect for someone who wants the close coupling but doesn't need to convert their entire fleet

Thanks Graham . that was a very impressive demonstration. especially in reverse but I have one question. How do the couplings perform in shunting operations? I get the impression that a single wagon may well be drawn towards the approaching loco before it actually comes to a stop
I have been steadily changing over all my rolling stock to Hunt Couplings. I didn't think it was going to be much of a "problem" to (hand of god - no turntable!) turn a loco round when necessary, but these just solve it at a stroke. I have only fitted one loco so far with couplings so I shall be investing in some of these in the near future. Cheers

This shows the responsiveness of the maker to the coupling to the feedback from his customers and by having the 2 types he lets the customer choose which they prefer. The original couplings were a great advance to other couplings and these are better but either are great

Great couplings. Do have a question though. How can you set up automatic uncoupling while useing these magnetic Hunt couplings. With Tension lock and Madre you can use magnets under the track. Any ideas. Nick Australia

I like all the new style couplings that are appearing on the market, it gives the modeller more choice which is a good thing. Where you have the need for full rakes of coaches or wagons that don't need splitting then these are ideal. If you shunt or have the need to detach stock then clearly these are not the couplers to use, and others are more suited to that. Excellent review
Malcolm Crabbe Having a choice is always good Malcolm, for people to have a choice in what and how they run there layout can only be a positive thing. These particular couplings won’t suit everyone and that’s understandable so the easiest option is not to buy them and just use what you prefer and suits your needs. But I will invest in these as I am just blown away by them. As regards shunting and uncoupling then I won’t need to get an uncoupler even if one comes out, I will just use one finger to separate whatever er I want separating. Graham, just a quick question...do these Hunt Couplers come together easily when the rolling stock is sitting on a curve ? Many couplers have trouble engaging when the wagons/coaches are on a curve. Cheers Greg
Gregory Hale Hi Greg, I guess that really depends on a few factors. The tightness of the curve and also where the couplings are fitted - under the body or on the bogie. Worst case scenario I think would be on a tight curve with stock having the couplings under the body of the stock being coupled, they may struggle with that just like the modern small D link couplings but until you try it then it’s a little difficult to know for sure, with the strength of these new magnets then I would be surprised if they didn’t hook up. If the coupler is on the bogie on the same curve then they will definitely couple as the bogies will virtually be pointing at each other. So a lot depends on where the coupler is mounted rather than the coupler itself. Hope that helps mate. Cheers for now. .......... Graham

DRAGON JUNCTION MK2 Yes they do fit each other Allan although they do very slightly move sideways as you connect them (because of the polarity of the magnets) but that doesn’t stop them holding onto each other like $hit to a blanket! So no problems there. I had no choice but to do that with the hoppers as I had only a few supplied to try out and they worked fine together. 👍🏻👍🏻
Wayne Meakin Hi Wayne, I have 6 HST’s and have converted them all with the original Hunt couplings and they are all so much better and certainly a lot closer coupled. I won’t bother changing these as they are always together in the same formation but if you are doing these from the old Hornby couplings then the new Elite couplings would be ideal. Great to see a simple and reversible compact magnetic coupling and an open and heartfelt honest review. Note in comments for uncoupling it's easy to do using a finger, that could easily translate to a simple long reach tool. Will seriously look at these elites later on. The uncoupling for me is not important as I don’t do any serious shunting but if I did the I would just use a single finger to push away where you want to uncouple. But I do understand that some folk would prefer to use an uncoupler. If they do then these couplings are not for them - at the moment! 👍🏻😉. As I mentioned, I don’t think it’s on for people to monetise on a video for what is just a hobby or to be affiliated with companies to rake in even more cash. Hi Graham - good idea from Hunt couplings. I've started to covert my N gauge stock over to Hunt couplings and I'll be interested to see whether an N gauge version is produced. Like you I didn't find any issue with the original ones. The only different thing I've done is to keep a Dapol Easi shunt coupling at either end of my rakes to allow my locos to still auto uncouple and therefore I don't have any issue in locos coupling up at either end. If I'm honest the Hunt Couplings don't look right on a loco, but that is just my preference/opinion hence my reasoning for keeping the Dapol Easi Shunts on the locos and outer wagons/coaches. This gives me the best of both worlds in N gauge. Cheers Euan

I appreciate that these will not suit everyone’s needs for whatever reason and that will always be the case. However, I can only judge these for what I need and that I think a lot of others will too and for me and my stock then these are perfect. We lesser mortals will stick with Kadee, especially as the cost would be prohibitive. However for circular layouts where running modern trains they appear to be very suitable. My own small layout isn't suitable where shunting is the order of the day.

As I have said to others, it’s all about choice and at the moment, if shunting is your bag then these couplings are not for you although I have to say that just pushing a piece of stock away with one finger doesn’t seem much like hard work if I’m honest, but I can understand why some folk would like the auto uncoupling. Stick with the Kaydee my friend as you are obviously very happy with them even though I have swapped all mine out for Hunt Couplings which for me and my needs are far superior. Aberystwyth Station - Great Western Railway Totally agree with you mate, they are brilliant, Hornby have four different style D link couplings to my knowledge (probably more) and they never work very well together - these solve all those issues plus you have to include the D links from Bachmann, Dapol, Heljan etc - a knightmare! Yes, there many different styles available for most applications including the clip on style as in the Hornby HST coaches and even screw type too. Your best bet is to go over to the website and look at the complete range. This new coupling may be a couple of weeks to get up to all the different styles but the original style is still going alongside these new versions. Hope that helps. Cheers for now mate. .......... They were a great idea in the first place and now (and How!!) he has made them totally universal. There is still one little problem for people making shunting layout. How can you make up or break down trains? An uncoupling device. If he can come up with one, then he will truly be the King of Coupling and hen he could buy a real train and try a set of couplings on that. Martin Pattison Yes, no matter what manufacturer you use as regards these magnetic style coupling then no doubt an uncoupler needs to be made for the people who like to shunt with auto uncouplers although I have to admit that I can’t see the point of having one when all you need do is push them apart with one finger, I personally would prefer to do that than to have an uncoupler in a fixed place so I can uncouple very easily in any place I choose but each to their own I guess. These couplings will never suit everyone but it should satisfy a lot of folk including me. Who will be the first to adopt these? @@GrahamFoulston How about a drop arm the same as the tension coupling use and a standard uncoupler. I know there is not a lot of up and down movement in the coupling, but it might work. Martin.
Martin Pattison No point in asking me Martin, you need to suggest that perhaps to Chris at Hunt Couplings. In my opinion though for what it’s worth is that what you have suggested is getting back to the similar way of the D link and that arm but just my opinion that’s all. 👍🏻
i would like to get some for track A THE CIRCULAR ONES so they still stay connected on a tight angle might be best he makes these ones with a bevalled end for tight tracks

TheElsiecam I’m not really into doing reviews unless I’m really happy with the company and certainly not receiving anything from them either, so if I do anything it’s normally off my own back from something that I have bought and think that others would be interested in, this was slightly different in that I was asked to do this but with no reward at all from it - I just don’t think that’s on to be honest, not for what is a hobby after all and it’s my hobby too, why should I get money or affiliation for doing that? IMHO there only one coupler that out stands all the rest: the KADEE. The most realistic. Easy to uncouple with just a magnet or a pin when you do shunting even IMPOSSIBLE with Hunt's. Easy take a wagon out of a train etc. Still the best for the price. But thanks for the demo for they may be a good replacement for the most ugly Tension lockers if you just run around trains.

No, you still have to buy the same amount of couplings - one coupling at each end of the coach, wagon etc and they are still supplied as pairs when you buy them. The Fleischmann 6515 NEM type coupling is far superior to this system,reliable rigid but flexible coupling and you can put as many wagons or coachs the loco will handle,no parting will reverse just as good if not better,and you do not need to tug them apart to uncouple,German engineering at its best not these heath robinson couplings! and cheaper by a long way.

@@GrahamFoulston Cheers Graham they are a superb coupling,i get mine by the fifty which are reference 386515 from gaugemaster or jadlam post free around fifty quid,the only drawback you get and its not the fault of the coupling,is the lack of manufacturers to stick to NEM standards,its not just the height, which they get right, ,its the length from buffers to couplings, which they do not get right lots of times,so sometimes you can not put the couplings right in,but they are a tight fit,and a speck of pva keeps them at the correct distance,i have had no problems,its pathetic of the major makers sticking with the so called tension lock coupling,it belongs back in the triang era,you see a train of high speed coachs shuffling around like a loose coupled coal train from the steam era,the 6515 is brilliant,you can have 3 wagons coupled up and lift out the middle one without disturbing the outer wagons,they couple up and uncouple so well,i think you will find out if you try them just how good they are,Best Wishs Eric.

Thanx for this Video. I have been converting my Rolling stock to a American style coupling ( avoiding using brand nsme) but they are a Tad fiddly.
These are so basic, its Brilliant so that even this Half Blind ( without Glasses) could fit and use them.. The ease of Decoupling is Fabulous.
I was unaware of this Style untill yesterday. And your the 3rd User to have Proven the Couplings Simplicity. ( And first without anything to gain..! True, Honest, no Bias Reveiw..!)

Great video Graham and a great improvement on the already available Hunts couplings. Your test run says it all, no problems whatsoever and the ability to couple up stock together, no matter which end you attach them to.

Something that might be worth mentioning: the new "Elite" couplers will *also* couple to the original "A" or "B" Hunt couplings. That saves changing any stock which you've already fitted with the originals, especially if you're running fixed formations.
What I think is so great about this whole "Hunt couplings" thing is: it's a problem that we've all suffered since since the early days of Tri-ang and it's been soled, not by a multimillionaire manufacturer, but by a modeller. He's not got it "nearly right", waiting for the big boys to perfect it, he's absolutely nailed it. Presumably now, he can name his price if he's prepared to let Hornby, Bachmann etc supply his couplings on their stock. After a year or two, absolutely *nobody* is going to want tension locks. HUGE congratulations to Hunt Couplings and farewell to ugly, clunky tension locks that cause derailments and look awful.

2H80vids I couldn’t agree more with you Dougie, I think these couplers are a real game changer. I’m not bothered by wanting an automatic uncoupler as I just don’t do shunting and so all my existing stock is being gradually moved over to these couplings, I have a miss-match of various shapes and sizes of D link couplings, Kadee’s etc which are all going or have now gone, eventually there will only be Hunt couplings throughout all my stock. These are not for everyone which I can appreciate especially if folk are determined to use auto uncouplers but at least now we all have a better choice to choose from. May I suggest you get a couple of packets at different lengths just to try them out once you are sorted out with the layout, that way you will then get an idea if they are for you or not without much cost to you. Hi Graham, Certainly a great new product and adds another degree of versatility & flexibility for coupling and uncoupling locos and rolling stock. The only slight criticism I have is that separation of wagons etc has to be done physically by hand, whereas the Kadee couplers have the ability to disengage automatically when a magnetic strip is placed strategically between the rails, but this system has its draw backs because unless the magnetic strips are placed in the right place uncoupling still has to be done by hand. If Hunt couplings could come up with an automatic method of uncoupling method similar to the Kadees they would be on an absolute winner. In the meantime I can still see a lot of modelers changing over to the Hunt couplers especially if they have the current British tension lock couplers. Great video mate. Cheers Greg
Gregory Hale Good morning Greg, I am sure that Chris will be working on some form of uncoupler in the future for the ‘shunter’ guys out there but for me then there is no need for one, especially if I can just uncouple by using one finger. If someone wants to uncouple automatically (why?) then these couplers are not for them and are better off using another form of coupler that allows for automatic uncoupling. When people are watching on say a video or at an exhibition then I can see why an uncoupler is of use but having said that then I see folk at exhibitions leaning over the track (normally over a back scene with a long stick trying to uncouple stock. So yes, you are right, at the moment then Kadee’s offer that facility but I’m sure, given time, then an uncoupler will make its appearance. I have taken off all my Kadee couplers and replaced them with these Hunt couplers as for me, they work better but that’s the great thing these days, we now have multiple choices to suit our own individual needs and requirements and that can only be a good thing. Great video Graham, very well explained and I have to agree with you in that these couplings are one of the best things that has been made for model railway loco's and rolling stock in years. A true testament to the continued improvement and listening to the requirements of the modeller. Yes there are other alternatives around which people can use and most I have tried, but these for me are the most simplest and convenient couplings I have used so far. I don’t do shunting as such but all I need to do is use one finger to disconnect anything - I really don’t need auto uncouplers although I’m sure others would. As with all things in this world we have choices and different needs, not one thing suits all but as for me then these new Hunt couplings are a godsend and I will certainly be using them through my stock eventually. Brilliant video Graham and a lot due to your track work. Those couplings are unbelievable, blown away by them. Who knows in this day and age but I am guessing the next thing Chris will be working on is how to automatically uncouple by putting something on the track. Nothing seems to be impossible nowadays.

Instead of waiting for something to derail or go wrong then I have complete confidence in them, so much so that going in reverse at full whack was immensely satisfying and bought a smile to my face. A real game changer. Yes, I’m sure Chris will be working on some form of uncoupler but to be honest, I don’t need it, I can just uncouple where ever I want with just one finger, you can’t get anything simpler than that. Now we need a standard for mounting these so we can take them to the club on a Tuesday night and they will work with everybody else's wagons.
Is it always shiny side up or shiny side down? and if you paint them, how do we know which is the standard up and standard down?
I suggest Mr Hunt considers a "bump" or dimple or something on "top" or "bottom". Maybe a bump on top and dimple on bottom?
Did you glue them into the socket? I’ve just ordered two packs based on this video but several simply pull out if the sockets when being pulled around, magnets seem strong enough but the actual clips aren’t! Plus two have broken 😢 not sure they’re a very durable material. For £35 for two packets I expected them to be trouble free.
Hi Dave and thanks for the comment. This video was made over three years ago and like you, I have since found out that although the concept was a good idea, the manufacture of them wasn’t so good, as they were 3D printed then the plastic used was too brittle and I had a few breakages too. I now have a box full of them doing nothing and have converted over to the Hornby magnetic coupling (see my last video I put up a couple of days ago) and these are so much better. They are disguised to very similar to vacuum pipes rather than just being straight bits of plastic and are no where as brittle and so no breakages when using them. Hope that helps a little. There's also their new Multi Standard Coupler - a magnet with a hole behind it that allows a Tension Hook to couple to it. Perfect for someone who wants the close coupling but doesn't need to convert their entire fleet

Thanks Graham . that was a very impressive demonstration. especially in reverse but I have one question. How do the couplings perform in shunting operations? I get the impression that a single wagon may well be drawn towards the approaching loco before it actually comes to a stop
I have been steadily changing over all my rolling stock to Hunt Couplings. I didn't think it was going to be much of a "problem" to (hand of god - no turntable!) turn a loco round when necessary, but these just solve it at a stroke. I have only fitted one loco so far with couplings so I shall be investing in some of these in the near future. Cheers

This shows the responsiveness of the maker to the coupling to the feedback from his customers and by having the 2 types he lets the customer choose which they prefer. The original couplings were a great advance to other couplings and these are better but either are great

I like all the new style couplings that are appearing on the market, it gives the modeller more choice which is a good thing. Where you have the need for full rakes of coaches or wagons that don't need splitting then these are ideal. If you shunt or have the need to detach stock then clearly these are not the couplers to use, and others are more suited to that. Excellent review
Malcolm Crabbe Having a choice is always good Malcolm, for people to have a choice in what and how they run there layout can only be a positive thing. These particular couplings won’t suit everyone and that’s understandable so the easiest option is not to buy them and just use what you prefer and suits your needs. But I will invest in these as I am just blown away by them. As regards shunting and uncoupling then I won’t need to get an uncoupler even if one comes out, I will just use one finger to separate whatever er I want separating. Graham, just a quick question...do these Hunt Couplers come together easily when the rolling stock is sitting on a curve ? Many couplers have trouble engaging when the wagons/coaches are on a curve. Cheers Greg
Gregory Hale Hi Greg, I guess that really depends on a few factors. The tightness of the curve and also where the couplings are fitted - under the body or on the bogie. Worst case scenario I think would be on a tight curve with stock having the couplings under the body of the stock being coupled, they may struggle with that just like the modern small D link couplings but until you try it then it’s a little difficult to know for sure, with the strength of these new magnets then I would be surprised if they didn’t hook up. If the coupler is on the bogie on the same curve then they will definitely couple as the bogies will virtually be pointing at each other. So a lot depends on where the coupler is mounted rather than the coupler itself. Hope that helps mate. Cheers for now. .......... Graham

DRAGON JUNCTION MK2 Yes they do fit each other Allan although they do very slightly move sideways as you connect them (because of the polarity of the magnets) but that doesn’t stop them holding onto each other like $hit to a blanket! So no problems there. I had no choice but to do that with the hoppers as I had only a few supplied to try out and they worked fine together. 👍🏻👍🏻

Wayne Meakin Hi Wayne, I have 6 HST’s and have converted them all with the original Hunt couplings and they are all so much better and certainly a lot closer coupled. I won’t bother changing these as they are always together in the same formation but if you are doing these from the old Hornby couplings then the new Elite couplings would be ideal. Great to see a simple and reversible compact magnetic coupling and an open and heartfelt honest review. Note in comments for uncoupling it's easy to do using a finger, that could easily translate to a simple long reach tool. Will seriously look at these elites later on. The uncoupling for me is not important as I don’t do any serious shunting but if I did the I would just use a single finger to push away where you want to uncouple. But I do understand that some folk would prefer to use an uncoupler. If they do then these couplings are not for them - at the moment! 👍🏻😉. As I mentioned, I don’t think it’s on for people to monetise on a video for what is just a hobby or to be affiliated with companies to rake in even more cash. Hi Graham - good idea from Hunt couplings. I've started to covert my N gauge stock over to Hunt couplings and I'll be interested to see whether an N gauge version is produced. Like you I didn't find any issue with the original ones. The only different thing I've done is to keep a Dapol Easi shunt coupling at either end of my rakes to allow my locos to still auto uncouple and therefore I don't have any issue in locos coupling up at either end. If I'm honest the Hunt Couplings don't look right on a loco, but that is just my preference/opinion hence my reasoning for keeping the Dapol Easi Shunts on the locos and outer wagons/coaches. This gives me the best of both worlds in N gauge. Cheers Euan

I appreciate that these will not suit everyone’s needs for whatever reason and that will always be the case. However, I can only judge these for what I need and that I think a lot of others will too and for me and my stock then these are perfect. I don’t do any form of shunting and so that side of it doesn’t bother me, I can just hook stock up and run trains - perfect. Cheers for now mate. ............ Graham
We lesser mortals will stick with Kadee, especially as the cost would be prohibitive. However for circular layouts where running modern trains they appear to be very suitable. My own small layout isn't suitable where shunting is the order of the day.

As I have said to others, it’s all about choice and at the moment, if shunting is your bag then these couplings are not for you although I have to say that just pushing a piece of stock away with one finger doesn’t seem much like hard work if I’m honest, but I can understand why some folk would like the auto uncoupling. Stick with the Kaydee my friend as you are obviously very happy with them even though I have swapped all mine out for Hunt Couplings which for me and my needs are far superior. Aberystwyth Station - Great Western Railway Totally agree with you mate, they are brilliant, Hornby have four different style D link couplings to my knowledge (probably more) and they never work very well together - these solve all those issues plus you have to include the D links from Bachmann, Dapol, Heljan etc - a knightmare! Had some of this type of coupling from GLR Bespoke services about a month ago,and as you say Graham,much easier to use than the original Hunt coupling.Keep up the good work!

Yes, there many different styles available for most applications including the clip on style as in the Hornby HST coaches and even screw type too. Your best bet is to go over to the website and look at the complete range. This new coupling may be a couple of weeks to get up to all the different styles but the original style is still going alongside these new versions. Hope that helps. Cheers for now mate. .......... They were a great idea in the first place and now (and How!!) he has made them totally universal. There is still one little problem for people making shunting layout. How can you make up or break down trains? An uncoupling device. If he can come up with one, then he will truly be the King of Coupling and hen he could buy a real train and try a set of couplings on that. Martin Pattison Yes, no matter what manufacturer you use as regards these magnetic style coupling then no doubt an uncoupler needs to be made for the people who like to shunt with auto uncouplers although I have to admit that I can’t see the point of having one when all you need do is push them apart with one finger, I personally would prefer to do that than to have an uncoupler in a fixed place so I can uncouple very easily in any place I choose but each to their own I guess. These couplings will never suit everyone but it should satisfy a lot of folk including me. Who will be the first to adopt these? @@GrahamFoulston How about a drop arm the same as the tension coupling use and a standard uncoupler. I know there is not a lot of up and down movement in the coupling, but it might work. Martin.
Martin Pattison No point in asking me Martin, you need to suggest that perhaps to Chris at Hunt Couplings. In my opinion though for what it’s worth is that what you have suggested is getting back to the similar way of the D link and that arm but just my opinion that’s all. 👍🏻
I use Kadee between loco and coach, with Hunt couplings to close couple the coaches.

IMHO there only one coupler that out stands all the rest: the KADEE. The most realistic. Easy to uncouple with just a magnet or a pin when you do shunting even IMPOSSIBLE with Hunt's. Easy take a wagon out of a train etc. Still the best for the price. But thanks for the demo for they may be a good replacement for the most ugly Tension lockers if you just run around trains.
gREAT vLOG and news re couplings but haven't Hunt shot them selfs in the foot as before I had to buy more couplings now I can buy less ??

No, you still have to buy the same amount of couplings - one coupling at each end of the coach, wagon etc and they are still supplied as pairs when you buy them. The Fleischmann 6515 NEM type coupling is far superior to this system,reliable rigid but flexible coupling and you can put as many wagons or coachs the loco will handle,no parting will reverse just as good if not better,and you do not need to tug them apart to uncouple,German engineering at its best not these heath robinson couplings! and cheaper by a long way.
I have to admit to not knowing about these 6515’s Eric so I looked them up and they do indeed look good couplings and for a good price too, so I think I will get half a dozen and try them out. Thanks for letting me know and cheers for now mate. 👍🏻. …………Graham
@@GrahamFoulston Cheers Graham they are a superb coupling,i get mine by the fifty which are reference 386515 from gaugemaster or jadlam post free around fifty quid,the only drawback you get and its not the fault of the coupling,is the lack of manufacturers to stick to NEM standards,its not just the height, which they get right, ,its the length from buffers to couplings, which they do not get right lots of times,so sometimes you can not put the couplings right in,but they are a tight fit,and a speck of pva keeps them at the correct distance,i have had no problems,its pathetic of the major makers sticking with the so called tension lock coupling,it belongs back in the triang era,you see a train of high speed coachs shuffling around like a loose coupled coal train from the steam era,the 6515 is brilliant,you can have 3 wagons coupled up and lift out the middle one without disturbing the outer wagons,they couple up and uncouple so well,i think you will find out if you try them just how good they are,Best Wishs Eric.
