We started building the first real part of the house: foundation!! It's awesome. The group is doing great job and things are moving on really fast. It's been predicting more snow on Thursday but it doesn't seem that bad anymore. Foundation should be ready on Thursday for both, the main house and the sauna. I keep running around making sure everything is there when needed and organizing all the workers to the construction in the right time. It's actually a fun job to do.
I also talk about why I decided to do winter construction in this video. There are so many good reasons for it besides my personal reasons. I should make a video about them. Winter construction is not a new thing in Finland. There are moments when I feel a bit stressed during this project but no worries. It just keeps me going.

Oh goodness, of course this would be the winter that overperforms in the way of snowstorms! But yes-it does look lovely!

One thing, I would say about the height of base is the - higher from the ground the better should you be near a stream or river which make it prone to flooding. Plus if you are at the base of a hill, this will protect the house more. My parents home did not flood whereas their neighbour’s Scottish home did flood due to the higher base. Enjoying seeing the progress and lovely Finnish scenery ✊
The base is 55 meters above the sea level. I also wanted to build on the highest part of the plot to make sure house stays dry and looks good ☺️ so yes!! I think you understand exactly the point I had thinking about the spot for the house.

Love it! Can't remember if you discussed this in a previous video... how will you heat the house? I am thinking how nice it will be next winter to be cozy and warm in the house looking out at a beautiful snow storm.
I will have an electric underfloor heating and an air-source heat pump. It's the best option for a house this size when you count the expense for the next 20 years. It's going to be amazing to be there one winter enjoying the fireplace and the view😍

Btw! (Reminded to say this now, because I'm watching this on a bus, going past this specific spot again I go by daily): if you ever visit Turku, make sure to check the Synsam store front on Humalistonkatu, near the railway station; they've had a huge window decal of you as their display for years now (from a photoshoot you did years ago, I believe). Always keeps me wondering, if you're at all aware that your spectacled face is a regular feature in Turku street scenery ^^

Will you plan to spend weekends here if you have to stay in the city for work during the week? Or is it just an occasional place to crash?
I think we will come here for a bit longer periods of time. Our home will be so much further from this summer house so it's more like a vacation place here in Finland. My family and friends are also going to stay there and enjoy the cottage☺️

Siitä tulee upee, kun saan ympäristön tehtyä😁 Puutarhatöihin menee kyllä varmaan muutama kesä, mutta pala kerrallaan. Tontin korkein paikka oli aika luontainen valinta talolle☺️
