i appreciate how he played several "mainstream" pieces. these are the pieces that made us fall in love with chopin after all.
i believe that this piece is only ‘mainstream’ due to it being among the best of melodies in general, as per chopin himself at the time
@@thefirerpg I think he had played fantasie impromptu as well
@@thefirerpg Nah, Nocturne in E flat major Op. 9 No. 2 is more iconic than this bro
@@swagyolo8602 agree
I think it depends whether the mainstream is good, or is it just mainstream. In many cases, the mainstreams are in fact good
I have never heard this etude played so beautifully and so calmly from start to beginning. Superb playing, thoughtful interpretation. I am rather appalled at the comment herein about Mr. Shishkins facial expressions, I can only guess that those persons making such comments either do not play piano or, do not play well as they focus on the wrong things...Mr. Shishkins playing ie exquisite.
Yes!, is "exquisite".... "gorgeous" playing!
I am a beginner and I can't understand how he played the middle portion so softly. I can definitely relate to the facial expressions. Great comment
So much better than a lot of bobbing and weaving like some pianists.
Do końca
I agree
I know that the other competitors avoid this PIECE because of how "mainstream" it is BUT this is one of Chopin's greatest masterpieces and Dmitry is able to capture the emotion of it. Melancholic, dramatic but also has a flair to it.
edit: ty boris 💖
In a self-serving, pretentious kind of manner. Get over yourself. It's a hard piece; but not as difficult as he would like us to believe . . .
OH, the PAIN!@!!. Oh, the suffering. WTF?!
Hey Dimitry; how about a game of Russian Roulette? The winner gets to perform Chopin as Intended (Ask Von Bulow about the need for facial expression).
@@shem9164 I think you need help.
@@Ekke325 lol he sure does.
This is the best performance of this I’ve ever heard. Enough to bring Chopin himself to tears
4:02 this variation from the beginning with C played with the left hand and A with the right has always been my favorite part of this piece, even after I have played it myself a thousand times.
An I expected turn to the minor 4th chord (Schubert loved doing this too), one of my new favourite chord progressions.
the vanishing finish... i call that😍
a minor
@@e.hutchence-composer8203 This is actually not uncommon. Mozart did this at the end of Lacrimosa, and e.g. Rachmaninoff used this progression.
how can people create war ,when such amazing wonders are in this world ,it's so profound and utterly moving to hear and see what mankind can be capable of ,lets keep these wonders alive and forget hatred ,greed and all the sadness that entails
This is my personal favorite interpretation of this piece. So soft and delicate but not too much yet very expressive and elegant. Also perfect pace, beautifully done by Dmitry 👌
The voicing, crescendo and legatto of the left hand at 2:14 is the highlight of this interpretation for me. We tend to do it in groups of two because of the fingering in the right hand (although is written in groups of four), but he just gives us a full descending chromatism in left hand, totally independent from right hand. What a great moment!
these faces are good and nice. I enjoy these faces.
loooool
try listening to the music - you might like that too
Thanks for playing this piece. He played beloved Chopin pieces at the competition. I really appreciate it.

What a superb performance. Absolutely love it above all others.
i think this is the best op10 no3 performance i've heard.
Heard*. Heared is the wrong way to say hear in the past tense.
Just thought I'd correct you since I know how hard another language can be.
@@em8714 oh thx :)
Arthur Moreira Lima plays excellent too
Wzruszający i przejmujący utwór. Mój ulubiony. Dziękuję...
I love the way he plays many of the bass notes early to give the melody support, I love those flams.
I hate it. Once or twice maybe but this is boderline disrespectful.
@@sheeplehunter2000 Matter of taste. I also think that too much rubato doesn’t suit this piece well but I so totally understand that some people do...
very, very lovely, and so intelligent.
Some tones really melt my heat 🥺
Beautiful almost cried everysound carefully balanced smoothly bravo!
One of the better interpretation i’ve heard
Beautifully done Dmitry!!!
Superb Mr. Shishkin. You thrilled me as if it were the first time I would have listened this etude.
Beautiful! Great emotion. Beautiful hands. Thank you.
amazing Dmitry , you nailed it perfectly
This étude differs from most of Chopin's in its tempo, its poetic character and the lingering yet powerful recitation of its lento melody. Chopin originally gave his Op. 10 No. 3 Etude the tempo Vivace, later adding ma non troppo. In Schumann's 1836 fur Musik article on piano études the study is classified under the category "melody and accompaniment in one hand simultaneously. Based on these said points, Shiskin's interpretation of this piece ranks up there with famed virtuosos such as French pianist Cyprien Katsaris.
Lovely!! This is the one I have been searching. A copy I would like to keep.
Beautiful interpretation.
Beautiful sound well played from the CFX yamaha concert grand
this guyyyyyyyyy what a savage.
Jicheol Ha haha
I feel like I've heard this song referenced in so many other modern songs. Two that come to mind: Guide Me Home by Freddy Mercury and Prelude by Muse (it's mainly that first crescendo part)
Lovely :) one of my final wishes is to hear someone play this live. I know it cannot happen, but thats why its called a wish.
2:48 goosebumps
Delicate performance
Exelente ❣️
so expressive. I love it!
I love this piece
Since I did not like Láng Lang’s version I came here and I Love it…❤

You have good taste. Lang Lang wrecks this piece beyond recognition.
Beautiful ♡
beautiful......
It was a brave question to the juries to playing such lyrical pieces. He was asking what essence of music is.
it seems like competitors tend to choose pieces that show off their technical skills more than musicality, so just what is the judging really based on? i know this piece is easier than some of the most frequently played etudes like 10-1, 10-2, 10-8, or winterwind etc, but do competitors get a lower score if they play some of the easier pieces? it's a shame most competitors avoid such pieces like the 10-3 because it may look "too easy" compared to other hard etudes
Eccezionale. Bravissimo.
This is a good interpretation. Not too sentimental (I don’t like it when pianists hold onto that anacrusis quaver for too long) but still tender enough for it to be, recognisably, Chopin.
3:50 is where I got the chills
3:50 makes me cry.....what a composition......

Очень хорошо,замечательно! Спасибо 🙏!
Really Beuatiful..☆
muito emocionante.
Bela interpretação. I love
He is really the best piano player I ever listened to!!!!
He surely is a top class interpreter but just keep on listening, seeking and finding the very best. I would recommend that you have a look at -but not only- Cziffra, Horrowitz, Rubinstein, Cortot, Lipatu, Arrau, Richter, Hamelin, Barenboim, Argerich, Brendel, Kempff, Yundi Li, Evgeny Kissin, Pierre René Duchable, Cyprian Katsaris, and yes.. Lang Lang (on this piece in particular). Just keep on enjoying music and the piano for that matter! :)

most players overpacing on the dynamic range and making it kitsch. shishkin is near perfection. what a control of the level. his nocturne is even better in this regard
I believe even he is not champion , his future is very very good in chopin play
He still achieved top 5 out of hundreds of world class pianists. It is still a great title.

haven't enjoyed this etude that much, surprisingly even tho this is Chopin's favorite melody, tbh I think Ballade 1 and Etude Op. 25/12 are more expressive
I think its one of those pieces that you have to listen to several times. Also I love "ocean" etude
25 12 is not an expressive etude😂 listen to the other ballades too they’re all wonderful
You are pathetic for not enjoying this piece
@@20891 yes, they are pathetic for having an opinion you goddamn fucking genius
yes of curse
Lang Lang has to use his entire body to what this guy does with just his face!
Well, a pianist should play with his hands, not with his face. I do not like his mimics either, it is an unnecessary allure - I agree with you. (It is as bad as the pianist who is moved by his own playing. It is me, the listener who should cry, not the pianist.) If I close my eyes, however, I can enjoy his performance.
@@knochildiko why can't you be moved by your own playing? How do you except people to express feelings that can reach your soul if they can't feel them beforehand? Humans can share feelings but creating them out of thin air seems close to impossible to me
I do not know how to call you by name (I am quite sure Serponge is not your first name), so I just say hello. Well, I was taught like that. My piano teacher never ever allows me any mannerism. And she is right. There is a world wide known Hungarian pianist. He was very good in his childhood already. As a child, he made circles with his upper body while he was playing. He made his spectators sick with this constant weaving. As an adult he dropped this bad habit. Mannerisms won't make anybody a better pianist. Less is much. An actress said once: "If I have to cry in a scene, I may not allow myself to be overwhelmed by my emotions too much. I have to make the spectators believe I am devasteted, that I am really sad but I have lines to say: I may cry as much as even the spectators of the last row understand what I am telling." However, if you like the way Dmitry Shishkin plays the piano, feel free to enjoy it!
@@knochildiko jeez just let them do their facial expressions and movements, sure it’s a habit but it is sometimes part of showmanship ya know?
not the best, but very good
wait is it just me or did the quality of this recording suddenly increase? I remember the sound being distinctly quiet..

Great interpretation, but Dmitry should be playing this on a Steinway, instead of a Yamaha. Yamaha makes great motorcycles, but best to go with the tried and true Steinway.
I cannot believe he plays this non-technical music where most ppl ask for acrobatic performance to the extent...
Well-played... except the echo effect...where the chords are delayed (not together)...it's a new fad I guess, but in this case, it's SO OVERDONE that it's distracting. Ruins it for me.
I think that's just the acoustics of the hall
Is he playing the voices slightly out of sync at the beginning? Whatever it is it sounds beautiful and very unique.
Myron Land
The way he uses asynchronous hands really annoys me I'm afraid. He frequently plays notes in his left hand slightly earlier than his right hand when they are written to be played at the same time. I think that spoils it.
Cortot did that all the time and no one broke balls about it
It helps to pronounce the higher voice. But yes, it may be too much.
I find this makes it the best interpretation ever it is perfect
Yes, unnecessary clowning around with the script.
I get what you mean, but I like it since I often do that myself in order to play emotional and slow pieces more espressivo.
in the skateboarding world, we call that “mob” face . everyone has their own unique mob face for every activity
most everyone playing Chopin seems possessed...
Is he in pain ?
yes he is.
