To help answer Jesse’s question about the modern time stuff in odyssey. It is a concept built into previous games to the aid in creating a feel of the game as a simulation instead of actual events (a weird sort of vale from immersion) which created the idea of you piecing through history instead of playing the history directly. This worked well in the older titles since it had a meta narrative with Desmond, the ISU (the ancient civilization), and the war between the Assassin and templars in modern time. Once they finished this story they kind of had to keep the motif that it’s a simulation for either narrative purposes (black flags) or concept/design purposes (unity). With the current games it’s keep solely for the fact that it would be weird for some of the mythological stuff going on if it were real life (since it’s trying to imitate our world very closely). They keep the simulation concept in mind so that they can allow for the stories to have a level of mythical style which is the majority of the popular “history” of these ancient times. The only real way for them to keep the simulation feel is to add in a bit of preconceptions that your using the animus to dive. Now why they don’t just put this in the main menu and and have a stylized intro that gives the feel of going into an animus beets me since this would easily fix the problem people are having with the modern time bits while still having the simulation feel.
My only thing is that.. in that case, just make a new IP... there is no reason for this to *be* an assassin’s creed game anymore... except the money that they get from fans who are going to buy anything with the name on it... which really comes to the crux of the matter.
AleksandrSpiritwolf. The only real conflict with the going to a new IP (especially with AC) is that you have to drop the entire concept or it will be very awkward when a game comes out about a person taking on a shadow organization in a historical setting and it’s not an AC game and it’s made by the people who made AC. A good example of this is Agents of Mayhem, where it’s a new IP that’s virtually saints row in concept and mentality but isn’t and this caused a friction in the fan base which caused it to falter (being meh also doesn’t help). Though the idea of going to a new IP would sound good an IP should be something wholly unique to stand amongst the crowd or we get what happened in the late 2000s and early 2010s with the military shooter. The thought of “why should this be made especially when there’s a perfectly good IP that encompasses the same concept” would hinder the makings of a game from the start. Now unless they were to go completely change the concept of AC (like narrative ideas and all) there’s no reason to get rid of the IP, and since they’re wanting to tell stories in the idea of AC (the person fights shadow organization) there is no reason to get rid of the IP. Now I will say that there are companies that do run franchises into the ground (rock-band is a good example) Ubisoft love em or hate em can keep a franchise or a game alive and relevant. Look at rainbow six siege and how it started to what it is now. Ubisoft kept with the game and continued to work on it until it is the bastion it’s now today.
As a huge fan of symbiotes and symbiote stories from the comics, I loved Venom. I had such shit expectations, but I enjoyed it all the way through. It didn't even have that many jokes in it. The jokes it did have were very Venom and actually funny imo. That chocolate scene at the end made me so happy too, because symbiotes eating chocolate is such an obscure reference.
Warning: "mild" salt towards TH-cam That segment towards the end that Jessie brought up about TH-cam censoring profanity... why am I continuously getting upset at TH-cam these days? The only news I ever hear about changes to the platform are bad. There are basic features that people have been wanting for years that they refuse to implement, they're actively homogenizing their content by promoting End Cards and having an algorithm that promotes regular content moreso than quality content, and there is still no good reason why channels that already have a handful of options on controlling their comments section can't allow users to thumbs down a comment in order to undo someone else's thumbs up. The only times I hear someone say things like "I like TH-cam" or "TH-cam's a great platform" is right before they give a fair criticism of it. The only praises people give TH-cam are moreso about the idea of TH-cam, the way that it used to operate and upgrade its features and experience, but none of the things that people give TH-cam credit for are things that have been done in the last handful of years. It's like the entire staff there is 1 robotic businessman, 2 paranoid moms with the "I want to speak to the manager" haircut, and an algorithm which according to TH-cam is "still learning" and that's the excuse they'll give any time something bad happens for years to come.
On Dodger's take on Magic the Gathering Arena: I've been playing Magic for ten years, both in paper and various digital formats, and I had the same problem of not realizing that the timer was waiting for me to say "OK, I'm not going to do anything; that ability can resolve". I've never had that problem before in digital Magic AT ALL. The buttons for resolving and the player making decisions probably should've be in the bottom right corner of the screen when none of the action happens there at all for the rest of a game. Aside from that, the game runs fine on a casual level.
He did say he bought the "Ultimate yuppie!" edition, that come with a booster for XP and Gold. Or to be be more precise, the Season Pass that's included in the edition provides the boosters. You can look it up in the descriptions of content for the game.
Go to the Uplay store, scroll down to see content, expand it by clicking "MORE", "Digital Deluxe includes [...] Temporary booster for XP and drachmas [...]".
I only see " Enhance your Assassin's Creed® Odyssey experience with the SEASON PASS. The SEASON PASS includes two new major story arcs of three downloadable episodes each: - LEGACY OF THE FIRST BLADE: Fight alongside the legend who first wielded the Hidden Blade to change the course of history. - THE FATE OF ATLANTIS: Confront godly creatures and uncover the secrets of the legendary sunken city. Also included in the SEASON PASS: - The Games: Assassin's Creed III REMASTERED and Assassin's Creed Liberation REMASTERED - The bonus mission The Secrets of Greece available at Day 1 "

Holy shit. Got to Genna having just finished explaining the pizza rolls at walmart thing, and a youtube ad comes on and it's for double Cod Blops exp for every Hungry Jack's 'Black Whopper' purcahsed. Hahahahahahha, that's so perfect.
I loved The Disaster Artist. I like to walk into a room where my husband sits and say, "Oh hi, Mark" (that's his name). He thinks it's funny, and he hasn't even seen the movie.
This is my final farewell to this channel. TB your opinions influenced me so much. I miss listening to that strong voice talking shit about bad game publishers and developers. May your legacy live long. Farewell dear sir!
This is a super assassins creed game, once you unlock the Cult of Kosmos, you are more an assassin than ever before, you have to learn about your enemies track down seperate clues, and then pick a way to kill them
Speaking of How did this get made as Jesse mentioned when talking about The Room. It made me remember... did I actually hear Jesse ask a question from the Audience in a live episode? XD
As far as 1:29:00 with the "play X game, get currency", there's a thing with mobile games where you can literally buy playtime from certain publishers, something like "pay us $2 per user, and we'll get them to play your game for X hours" with the idea being if 1/10 of people who play your game spend $50 (or on average 10 players pay $50), then you pay $2 per user for a whole lot of users and make a return. So the reason they all look like a weird as hell closed ecosystem of games is... well, because they kind of are! This was probably either an agreement to direct people to another publisher's/group's game or possible games all owned under the one publishing umbrella.
The MTX stuff in Odyssey is greatly exaggerated. I didn't ever feel the need to buy anything (finished the game, didn't really go out of my way to side quest, but i did do a handful) at all and the game doesn't shove ads in your face like everyone claims. There are two locations that tell you about the store primarily with one that happens rarely. One, at the main menu on the right hand side in the area most people aren't even looking at (away from the new other menu options) which, also does not include a switching banner either like other games do. The other is a tooltip that mentions it every dozen or so load screens. The other is the button in the menu that lets you switch to it from the inventory screen system. The Totinos deal has been something that has been a type of promotion that has been happening since the early 2000s btw, it is funny though. I mean yeah, obviously I don't want microtransactions, but people didn't yell about this at all when Origins came out and it had a FAR worse system. The key difference here is that all the items are direct purchase with 0 rng lootboxes. All the MTX are the same as Origins (Xp Boost, Gold Boost, Gear, ect) where the Xp boost is a direct purchase and....all the other crap is in a gambling lootbox. I am not saying that means it is a wonderful system, but I do find it funny that the bandwagon for hating the game is now the new hotness even though it wasn't the case before with a worse system. At least the game has spoken for itself despite people being hyperbolic about the MTX. (Biggest AC yet as far as launch numbers) TLDR; The MTX system in Odyssey is only bad if you aren't into open world games and rush to the end. Sorry, but if you just rush to the end in open world games because the game is not good enough for you to enjoy the other aspects of it...you probably just don't like the game(s).
I mean, one could be so entranced by the story that they feel like seeing through before the rest of the game. Putting a hard limit to that by suddenly bumping the level of the enemies so that they become damage sponges, from what people say, sounds pretty shitty
There is no hard limit on it though. This "level gating" that everyone keeps whining about simply is not there. You can do quests at lower level, they will just be a little harder. In fact, if you do quests more then a couple levels higher (which is unlikely to happen unless you were deliberately avoiding absolutely everything outside the story) then it will make be pretty challenging, but doable. You can beat the game that way just fine if you want. You can also lower the difficulty. Which, as someone who often doesn't like the side content in open world games, does. There is no sudden bump, as people say. It is literally the same as Origins. Smooth level progression. In fact, most stuff scales down to you anyways after the tutorial island. Every now and then, if you want to stay same level as the story, you have to veer off and do a side quest or two. Side quests also tell stories related to the main quest so you are pretty much missing out on main story elements if you skip those as well.
hagg3r1 - Still, when a company offers things like XP Boosts and Crafting Materials for real money, they're hoping people will buy it. It's not like they're doing it to "give people options" or anything, otherwise it would be a toggle option in a menu, or they could just have cheat codes. It makes me suspicious of the leveling curve and the cost of upgrading gear. With games that have (non-cosmetic) MTX, you'll never know if the numbers have been messed with until it's too late. What if upgrade costs were 15% higher than they would have been otherwise? What if there's progression gates towards the end, like you're hitting end game content and only level 30/50? When you've already invested dozens of hours into the game and have to choose between grinding boring activities for the next two weeks of your free time, or paying cash to get to the ending of the game while you still care about and remember the plot? If you have players wanting to upgrade a special piece of gear and not being able to, or if they follow the main story but only do sidequests that are interesting and end up consistently underleveled, then that's just bad game design. Trying to solve it by tempting people (and kids) to pay cash to fix it is just awful. People have to call it out and say it's unacceptable, or we'll never know whether the game is being built solely for us to have fun, or if it's just designed to bilk more cash out of us.
Jesse not knowing the AssCreed lore and critiquing it is quite hilarious. Also it is SO not wrapped up Jesse! Juno has escaped, Abstergo ARE Templars... which is why they're so adamant about finding out about the pieces of Eden, which are the reasons to look at the memories (re-live) of important Assassins. WHICH you can only do by having a bloodline connection to said Assassin. I dislike Ubisoft, but I LOVE the Asscreed lore and what the games(some of them) are. So know that I am NOT DEFENDING UBISOFT! I dislike their business practices and their constant hunger for milking their customers of their monthly rent and food-money. You can really feel that the people who created the series to begin with really loved the concept and what they were creating.
@@ConfirmedRandom Also an incorrect statement. The games has a large fan base and there are many who still care for the lore in general, which includes the modern parts.
@Einomar Cousln't have put it better myself. I personally enjoy the parts with Abstergo, maybe not as much as I enjoy the actual gameplay inside the Animus. But anything involving lore is fun to me.
Honestly, if anyone wants to get AC: Odyssey buy it on PC, use a trainer/cheat engine to level yourself to 50 and then play through the game. Its what I did, the rediculous amount of time it takes to get to 50 is just downright painful. Even after powerlevelling myself to 50 I completed the main story and a bunch of side quests and STILL got 65hours out of this game. Plus the enemies in the game level up with you so your not one shotting everything. And play Kassandra, she's FUCKING AWESOME.
Literally just got home from watching Venom and what Jesse said about the convenience store scene makes literally no sense AT ALL if you paid attention during the movie.
The whole thing is confusing, but makes sense if you watch the comics? Chocolate turns venom sane for some reason. I believe he's almost a Anti-Hero in the comics.
Chocolate contains Phenethylamine which he needs to survive. It also exists in human brains which is why he likes to eat heads. Regardless its established multiple times that he is always hungry so him buying food isn't odd at all.
This. All the gear available gets eclipsed by in-game stuff, so it's basically all cosmetics. The XP boost basically unlocks more areas for you sooner, but is by no means necessary.
Doesn't matter, stuff like that shouldn't be in the game. This stuff is annoying to look at even if you're not buying into it. FFS the base copy of a game is plenty of money for any publisher. EA, Activision, and Ubisoft, all run by dickbag CEO's, are worth a shit ton of money. The pay for the CEO's themselves, individual people, is in the millions. There is no reason to treat customers like cow udders, trying to milk them for every penny. It's fairly anti-consumer to shove mtx in your face when you paid for their product, already. Stuff like alternate skins/outfits used to be in-game unlockables, so cosmetic or not, it's a shitty practice gating off content that used to be industry standard, by charging extra money for it.
This is a bit of a random piece of info. I just visited a friend who lost her husband to cancer the day after TB died. So yea I visited his grave for the first time... Loads of emotions
On the discussion about "Tropical Liquor", I'm pretty sure that the "childhood friend" is actually your sister. Not exactly surprising for an Anime game.
30:14 I think Jesse is talking about St. Elmo’s fire. A real throwable weapon that was a clay pot filled with oils. On impact the oils would cover everything even water! Just light it, and watch the fun!
I want to love this podcast still so much now that TB is gone, but there are such hard cringe moments. Sometimes you don’t have to comment on every little thing.
Assassin's creed microtransactions are there for the lazy people, who don't really want to put much effort into to the game, you can play without the use of boosters, you just have to do some more side quests and exploring, before continuing the main questline
I agree that Assassin's Creed Odyssey is not like an Assassin's Creed game. It's why I bought it and lots of people did too. I think I read somewhere that it's the most successful AC game in recent times. I look forward to the next one.
Actually Jesse, a lot of us cared about that storyline until the killed Desmond. Some of us are hoping that plot goes somewhere so quit asking them to kill it off.

Can somone find where he was talking about (N3) game that was mix of overcooked and FTL? Edit : Catastronauts i found it ;D
The girls in the loading screens in Food Fantasy aren't smoking hash pipes; those are opium pipes. Don't ask me how I know that :P
Ok so I would totally watch Genna make cosplay props and whatnot. Like just watching the brainstorming and work behind cosplay is kinda cool.
Agreed.
Was dat Day9 trailer for MtG Arena beta recorded at Maker Studios' office?
I like that the picture of Dan in the thumbnail is from an Emma Blackery video.
Warning: "mild" salt towards TH-cam
That segment towards the end that Jessie brought up about TH-cam censoring profanity... why am I continuously getting upset at TH-cam these days?
On Dodger's take on Magic the Gathering Arena:
I've been playing Magic for ten years, both in paper and various digital formats, and I had the same problem of not realizing that the timer was waiting for me to say "OK, I'm not going to do anything; that ability can resolve". I've never had that problem before in digital Magic AT ALL. The buttons for resolving and the player making decisions probably should've be in the bottom right corner of the screen when none of the action happens there at all for the rest of a game. Aside from that, the game runs fine on a casual level.
27:40 The reason he didn't feel the grind is because the "Mega Ultra Complete for Real Guys!" edition comes with a XP booster.
Where did you get that info from?
He did say he bought the "Ultimate yuppie!" edition, that come with a booster for XP and Gold. Or to be be more precise, the Season Pass that's included in the edition provides the boosters. You can look it up in the descriptions of content for the game.
the Season Pass does not include any boosters as far as i can see
Go to the Uplay store, scroll down to see content, expand it by clicking "MORE", "Digital Deluxe includes [...] Temporary booster for XP and drachmas [...]".
I only see " Enhance your Assassin's Creed® Odyssey experience with the SEASON PASS.
The SEASON PASS includes two new major story arcs of three downloadable episodes each:
- LEGACY OF THE FIRST BLADE: Fight alongside the legend who first wielded the Hidden Blade to change the course of history.
- THE FATE OF ATLANTIS: Confront godly creatures and uncover the secrets of the legendary sunken city.
Also included in the SEASON PASS:
- The Games: Assassin's Creed III REMASTERED and Assassin's Creed Liberation REMASTERED
- The bonus mission The Secrets of Greece available at Day 1 "
I love how the link to Dan’s channel in the description is wrong
“About a boy who’s not related to any of these people” Patroclus didn’t die for this
great podcast guys, Dan is always a good guest :)
Dan is so easily entertained by open world games. "oooh, the same activity I've done 75 times already!"
27:30 Nerdcubed saying it's paced well... when he has the ultimate edition with the increased pace gain. :|
This is how they mind control influencers without them even noticing, people.
You can watch the special edition of this video if you buy 10 copies of Assassin's Creed Oddessy.
00:40:30 ironically Neo wasn't The One in the Matrix movies, Agent Smith was
On the AC Odyssey booster subject, John used to literally talk about being fine with pay to skip stuff, but hey, you do you.
Wait....did you say Germany and ESO? Now you're speaking my language, their are dozens of us!
Jesse isn't alone. I was taught VISage too.
"I don't like sweet coffee so that's why I put vanilla in my coffee" - Wtf Jesse :D
Homo Machina reminds of drawings I did as a kid, with a crew of little people actually running things inside a body.
Love the cosplay showing on the background Genna! Keep at it!!! :)
Has Crosscode been mentioned in this show yet?
I love listening to Jesse talk about dirty games
This is my final farewell to this channel. TB your opinions influenced me so much. I miss listening to that strong voice talking shit about bad game publishers and developers. May your legacy live long. Farewell dear sir!
The first mistake is going to Starbucks. I won't touch those jackwagons.
This is a super assassins creed game, once you unlock the Cult of Kosmos, you are more an assassin than ever before, you have to learn about your enemies track down seperate clues, and then pick a way to kill them
Venom is not somehting you need to be drunk to enjoy; just expect dumb fun and it's a BLAST
Sounds like jesse wasn't paying attention at all to the movie. It was a good movie and his complains made no sense.
(Biggest AC yet as far as launch numbers)
TLDR; The MTX system in Odyssey is only bad if you aren't into open world games and rush to the end.
I still see a problem with incentivizing developers to make the game unbalanced for non-mtx play.
I do too, but I don't really see the unbalance in this game as people claim exists.
hagg3r1 - Still, when a company offers things like XP Boosts and Crafting Materials for real money, they're hoping people will buy it.
People have to call it out and say it's unacceptable, or we'll never know whether the game is being built solely for us to have fun, or if it's just designed to bilk more cash out of us.
don't pay companies for cheating in your games get cheat engine you can do most things with it.
Is that on PC or consoles?
And get yourself a nice hearty ban on Steam.
@@Gigaheart well, if it's multiplayer.
Steam doesn't care about "cheating" in single player games
The modern day characters in origins and odyssey are interesting, i want more Layla
You can really feel that the people who created the series to begin with really loved the concept and what they were creating.
asscreeds lore is garbage nobody plays those games for the boring modern shit
the point wasn't why is Abstergo is doing what they are, it's why is it in the game at all when it's the worst part and no one likes it.
@@Pelmite Well that's obviously an incorrect statement.
To be fair, they should have explained that stuff from the comics subtly a bit more, but yeah, I actually really enjoyed the movie. Perfect 5/7.
I didn't mind the Odyssey microtransactions because none of them were mandatory. It isn't game breaking or story depriving to not have it
Woah Genna. GTA V took TWO YEARS to get to PC, not Five Months. They were developing the PC version from the start apparently as well
Better name for the coffee shop"Cox N' Coffee" and toy store "Cox N' Toys"!
I loved that commercial for MTG
Never heard cadaver with the accent on the e before
This is a bit of a random piece of info.
I just visited a friend who lost her husband to cancer the day after TB died. So yea I visited his grave for the first time... Loads of emotions
Really enjoyed Venom, wasn't drunk, it was just a fun movie. c:
SAME. I actually really liked the change from just being ONLY a villain in Spider-Man movies into being... deeper than that.
On the discussion about "Tropical Liquor", I'm pretty sure that the "childhood friend" is actually your sister. Not exactly surprising for an Anime game.
Street Fighter's only two redeeming qualities were Raul Julia and the 'kaiju' fight.
I think the NerdCube link is the wrong one
1:56:02
YES! Jesse did the EXACT SAME THING I did when playing that game. That's great.
Press-entation. All French Press Coffee.
Pre-Zen-Tation, where you can present your work in a relaxed environment without judgement.
Great episode btw!
30:14 I think Jesse is talking about St. Elmo’s fire. A real throwable weapon that was a clay pot filled with oils. On impact the oils would cover everything even water! Just light it, and watch the fun!
Geek fire he was talking about Greek fire.
Coffee shop name: PresenTEAtions
Or if they want to go super douchy: PreZenTEAtions. It would need a yoga room too though.
Way to go, Genna. I am really impressed with what you have done with this podcast.
Jesse, you should open that damn Presentations coffee shop
Ouch, accidentally get almond milk at your starbucks? I'm deathly allergic to almonds, that would be one costly mistake for me...
1:31:28 Noooo Jesse~ did you give up on Final Fantasy Brave Exvius? T_T
8:50 IS THAT AN OLD APERTURE MUG???
2:08:30 Jesse can do a spot on Pete Impression from Disney apparently!
I want to love this podcast still so much now that TB is gone, but there are such hard cringe moments. Sometimes you don’t have to comment on every little thing.
This comment is mind bending..... You don't have to comment on every little thing, yet you did anyways......
Blessed Tbs memory is being honored
Assassin's creed microtransactions are there for the lazy people, who don't really want to put much effort into to the game, you can play without the use of boosters, you just have to do some more side quests and exploring, before continuing the main questline
Completed the whole Assassin's Creed Odyssey and didn't even look at MTX. Game is great.
I agree that Assassin's Creed Odyssey is not like an Assassin's Creed game. It's why I bought it and lots of people did too. I think I read somewhere that it's the most successful AC game in recent times. I look forward to the next one.
the food fantasy segment made me to check on my FGO account.
I just finished processing a Halo: Combat Evolved video in which I swear a good few dozen times. Well, sh*t.
Is it bad i actually kinda like the podcast more with genna hosting? i know it sounds rude but i like her more than i did TB, i dont know why.
Your not offending TB he married her xD
I like the changes that she made to the format. As to which one I prefer as a host I think they're both pretty great.
Yea. He also said that he wanted to hear her talk more on the interwebs ^^
“You’re a Loser!” 10/10 film. Also Venom Venom Venom Venom Venom Venom Venom Venom Venom Venom...
Actually Jesse, a lot of us cared about that storyline until the killed Desmond. Some of us are hoping that plot goes somewhere so quit asking them to kill it off.
1:31:00
This has been around for a while in mobile games actually.
Whats that giant spider in the background of Dodger? Is that supposed to be a router?
Yes
