Exactly, from the opening scene to the end of E10 nearly 30 years pass. Some people had issues with major characters being recast; I personally didn't, but I am a book reader. I get where that would be jarring. IMO the periods skipped by the time jumps didn't have any major events, just some character development and relationship evolution that was not crucial to show. Caraxes Daemon's dragon is my favorite. Fun facts: he's deformed, that's why he looks like a danger noodle, he has a deviated septum and so he can't roar properly that's why he squeals high pitched as much as he does and his jaw is crooked. Other dragons don't really like him except for Syrax Rhaenyra's dragon. Also dragon's can feel their riders emotions, like when Daemon was shot Caraxes freaked out, and when Syrax showed up Caraxes was happy
yesss caraxes is the most interesting to me. looks a bit like mushu from mulan lol. im glad they're making each dragon different and unique, it's great
Possibly more firewyrm genes than wyvern in Caraxes, but the genetic yatzee wasn't detrimental to functionality, so he survived and grew. The deformities of the dragon hatchlings seem to mirror the deformities of the dragon babies; pale and blind seems to be a common theme.
The thing about Corlys Velaryon: He actually did built up his house. The current castle of House Velaryon, High Tide, was built with the wealth he created by doing nine great voyages to the east of the world.
Viserys didn't really have an option. The Maester basically said we can attempt to save the child or else risk losing both. The birth scenes are so heavy in this series, arguably a bit too much by the end in my opinion. It definitely portrays childbirth especially before modern science as gruelling and the womans 'battlefield' as stated by Queen Aemma.

Bit late to the party but your remark about the king being cut by the Iron Throne: there's a superstition in Westeros that if you are not worthy of the throne, you will cut yourself on it.
It's a dumb superstition though. Far as we know neither Joffrey nor Robert were ever cut by the throne and Viserys was a much better king then either of them.
Daemon loves his family entirely, but his ambition rises above that. He’s one of the greatest written characters honestly- totally morally gray. Three kills in the 3rd episode, Rhaenyra needing to kill something coming at her to prove her worth as does Daemon except he went after the kill, and then Viserys who doesn’t want to but needs to for status, something that’s was caught for him. Viserys really fumbled the bag with naming rhaenyra heir, he did not keep the realm in mind but more so did it out of fear
@@havok6280 you have a right to disagree. Spoiler***** But he would rather die than see anyone other than his immediate bloodline on the throne (why he acts the way he does towards Rhaenyra later on, wanting war with the Greens) that’s not due to wanting love- daemons entire character is driven by legacy, even the stepstones- instead of taking his brothers help and build a bond with love he hates it, directly contradicting your statement. While yes he does love his brother and wants his attention, that is totally not the drive of his character at all, it’s legacy. My opinion on it from everything we know. Now when he’s young he wants to be recognized, he doesn’t want to be heir really as we see later - but in the end it’s always ambition and legacy that are at the top of his list

Mysaria understands High Valyrian, although we don't know exactly where she comes from, she's from Essos and probably from the old Valyrian Freehold, so she has notions of Valyrian and knew what they were talking about. Vizzy T was honestly one of the best dads in the show. All he wanted was for his family to get along. He was a good man, but a weak King. Somehow that's always the case in asoiaf.
I think the maester made it pretty clear that Aemma wasn't going to survive that birth. The choice was save the baby or save neither. Great video though.
People tend to forget the fact that the queen was already having bad pregnancies and wanted to stop, but was pressured into having them in order to produce a male heir.
That's the duty of a queen, the price of their opulent and privileged lives. If she wasn't willing to do that then she could have abdicated her position as queen and had their marriage annulled so that the King could marry someone else.
I know you probably won’t read this but there is in fact a metaphor for Viserys cutting himself on the throne Aegon the Conqueror, the man who built it, intended for it to be uncomfortable to sit on because as he said “A king should never sit easy” and someone who cuts themself on it is considered to be unworthy to rule
before the c-section, i believe maester mellos tells viserys that aemma is going to die no matter what, or at least implies it, if that eases things at all.

The book having an unreliable narrator DOES NOT mean the show is clarifying what is true to the book universe. It just isn't. What the show depicts says nothing about what may have actually happened in the book. And George has NEVER suggested that the show does that. For anyone who's confused about how fast they travel back and forth between Dragonstone and Kingslanding, Dragonstone is relatively close to Kingslanding, on Dragon back is less then a day.
about the boar thing: Rhaenyra sad that she hates the sound of dying boars, its reminds here of the sound of crying childeren. I think here stabbing the boar over and over again symbols her hating the fact she has now a little brother, and that child is in her brain replacing her.
Viserys making every single wrong decision for what he deems as the "moral" decision in this fucked up world is soooo good. They lay it out so well what a character
Most people gets Visery's choice wrong, so I like to point it out: Saving Aemma wasn't an option. The maester said it clearly: "sacrifice one, or lose them both." Aemma was going to die regardless of his choice, if anything he could've chosen to "leave it to the gods" and maybe make it so she didn't suffer with milk of the poppy, but lose the child along with her anyway. Sadly, they don't have the means to extract the baby without hurting the mother and causing death by loss of blood.
One thing they said is that the queen would die either way. They could either try to get the baby out or just let it happen naturally but either way she was going to die. So Sad
This discussion has raged in the comments of every single episode reaction to the show. Surprisingly, there are some very staunch "viserys is the worst person in history" people.
When he told her to go choose a match /mate one that suits her as he did, he wasn't talking about Alicent , he was talking about her mother, he chose her mother that wasn't arranged at all regardless of what Viserys did to Rhaenyra's mother. He honestly did love her with all his heart, and what he did haunts him immensely.
IMPORTANT: Aemma was going to die no matter what!! It was either try and save the baby and basically kill the wife in the process, or let the baby kill her and quite possibly itself. Viserys made the right call, imo. Might as well try and save one than let them both die
Wow i love your hair in this style your look gorgeous with it!! Also I only just started watching your vids 2 days ago but I’m exactly like you when watching so I think it would be a total blast watching shows with you!!
I have to admit that it was your reaction videos to Game of Thrones (which I have still never seen that show) that made me interested in watching House of the Dragon. Which I LOVE - can't wait for season 2. So thanks!
Important to remember that either they kill the wife and save the baby or let them BOTH die. There is no saving Aemma, she is going to die either way, the choice is to try to save the baby and let your wife die by your hand or let them both die at the hands of the gods. 16:01
Corlys actually built his house. He is know as the greatest sailor in Westeros’s history and went on journeys so that when he returned he had made his house richer than even the Lannisters
Yall are missing the point in the comment section. Yes, Aemma was gonna die either way (allegedly) but telling her what the situation was and giving her a choice for herself which realistically, she would've agreed anyway, is the best possible way. But Viserys took that knowledge away from her and she was mutilated to her death.
Spoiler alert You know i kind of forgot how she kept begging "viserys please" it's really messed up and the fact that he didn't even tell her , and to think the character of viserys is so beloved despite most conflict resulting from his incompetence, and yes while he had little choice in this birth it's still his fault for obsessing about a boy and ruining Aemma's health by also consummating their marriage when she was still a kid , sure the blame isn't solely on him in that one but still his obsession killed her , it's just really sad , i like viserys and understand why by the end we all feel bad for him but really dude made many choices which led him to that end , he knew he wasn't fit for the throne he could've refused it and let rhaenys take it just like maester Aemon did thus avoiding the cuts that killed him and the mediocre ruling that brought war , he could've been content with having a daughter but he didn't until it killed his wife , i empathize with him but really he brought it on himself which is the tragic part
100% Everyone is a victim of their own uncertainty; they're not innocent they made their bed. I mostly feel bad for the kids tbh. Except Aegon the Elder. Fuck that guy.
I'll write comments as I watch. - Aemma was going to die either way. His choice was to try to save the baby, or leave it to the gods, ie they both die. I don't believe it worked this way in the books, but it was poignant after some recent SCOTUS decisions. - While this is an official tourney, what you are seeing is actually more combat/duel jousting, where kind of anything goes. Most jousting was more like you'd see in Renn fairs. More rules. The goal being to knock the other off the horse, not to actually injure them. The post-joust duels were a thing, but really only in combat jousting. - Getting cut on the throne is a bad omen. It symbolizes the throne rejecting you for some reason. Either as unfit to rule, or a warning of something you're overlooking. One Joffrey-style king was actually killed by the throne. - "They got there so fast" Brace yourself. - "2 years?!" And they still pressing the accelerator. - It helps to think of this as a prequel. They have to build up the history to get to the actual dance of dragons. - "Not gonna lie, he's lookin kinda hot". Matt Smith could have played Joffrey and probably still win audience favor. lol. - Avoid revisiting S3 of Game of Thrones. Joffrey spoils the series, as per typical Joffrey.
We gotta remember in this time there was no way to save his wife, there they could not get the babe out at all without cutting into Aemma. So she was going to die either way. Either way had the same emotions during that scene was so hard to watch. The actress really sold that scene. And loving your reactions to the show daemon is my love to hate character 🤣🤣
i love how many people say that aemma would have died anyway but the whole problem is viserys not telling her. So while she is being slaughtered, she spends the last couple minutes in this world terrified out of her mind because her husband has decided to choose her fate for her. She doesn't know that the baby isn't coming out because it's in Breech, she's not been told, for all she knows, it's just a difficult labour. She is not given her an option of being killed or given more milk of the poppy so she doesn’t have to experience the literal mutilation of her body in front of her while the person she loves restrains her from moving away while she is being butchered. The people saying we can't put modern sensibilities to this, yes we can. How we feel is directly related to our experiences. So I can happily call Viserys a murder for the rest of time for this instance because he IS.
Keep in mind that this show it being made of a war in a book that is only so few pages, this first season has a lot of time jumps to prepare and help us understand the war, dance of the dragons
I understand the frustration with Viserys decision in regards to Aemma and the birth but, as others have said, she would've died no matter what. He's feeling guilty enough about his decision and the outcome as it is, we gotta cut him a little slack here. Not truly his fault
What’s there to understand? The frustration with Viserys is unwarranted. As you said, if he had done nothing Aemma and Balon would have died anyway, at least he tried to save the baby.
To give context, Dragonstone and King's Landing are only 400 miles apart. King's Landing and Winterfell are 1,460 miles apart. So journeying still takes time. It's just that Dragonstone and King's Landing are close to one another and boats are faster than horses.
The whole 1st season is pretty much just the prologue in the books, thats why the times jumps are so frequent. The 2nd half of the season slows down and will continue that way from now on to follow the book
To be fair, Otto started it with the wife comments. If you can't take it don't dish it out. What business is it of Otto how Daemon's married life is? He totally deserved what Daemon said. Laenor is also a dragon rider as he is half Targaryen through his mother, Princess Rhaenys. His dragon's name is Seasmoke.

If you like Milly Alcock in this, you should watch Upright with her, and Tim Minchin. It's brilliant.
He still had the option of asking for her consent, or let her make the choice herself, even if it wasn't really a thing for women in this universe (or in our past).
@@floaltea You don't think she would've chosen to try to save the baby too? She would've made the same choice, but yeah I got no clue why he wouldn't warn her beforehand at least
@@floaltea consent within a marriage wasn't a thing in our world until the 1970s. It still isn't in countries like Saudi Arabia. It isn't reasonable to expect it in a fantasy medieval world.
@@floaltea Of course, but he was stuck trying to keep the peace of the Realm. No male heir means war, but then he is haunted by the fact that not only did he torture his wife for the good of the realm, but it was for nothing.

I love her perception of what the show will be at the beginning of this, that there will be no other sons and Rhaenerys and Daemon will be fighting each other. Can’t wait to watch everything evolve!
This show has brought me back into the Song of Ice and Fire universe. I was so done after Game of Thrones and was fully prepared to never look back, but this has reignited my love.
I was the same. It was the cast that made me interested and I'm glad that I've started watching.
You’re definitely not alone, D and D rushed seasons 7 and 8 and it can be easily argued that the quality dropped when the books ran out after season 4 despite a few shining moments in season 6. This show had the best of GOT with Miguel and a true ASOIAF fan in Condal aswellas a finished story. No wonder it’s better quality so far aswell as a larger budget!
@@joepagram8287 Oh please, many haters were going to allegedly boycott HBO after the finale and then mocked HOTD for being "woke". "Poor Alicent was just told to come here and do this and now she's gonna be pinned as like this manipulative woman" and considering the *King* himself told her to keep quiet about it...... yeah. Mind you he didn't consult her before the announcement, she kept trying to mend the relationship for *years* and she's the one who insisted Rhaenyra has a say in who she ends up marrying. I'm just hoping you'll keep all of this in mind i guess
I was so glad to hear it but I wonder how Nat’s view has changed later into the season 🤞🏻
@@anais6654 I think she was trying to be a good daughter, a good subject to the king and a good friend after that if she could, as she was raised this way. You can’t expect 15 years old girl from this kind of upbringing to go against it without any support, and Rhaenyra is not a female rights fighter who would lend her this kind of support IMO

I love how even after watching the entirety of GoT, you're still hopeful for anyone's survival. Takes a big heart for that
The decision was between both dying or the baby surviving and Aemma dying, if they just left it as is the baby would just never get out.
It amazes me how many people missed that detail...
That's not the point though . . . it's not Viserys' choice to make.
@@adamgreyjoy8333 there was no choice. He could have "left it up to the gods" and both would still die. For Aemma it would have been long and agonizing.
I think the point is they should ask Aemma, not just Viserys
@@adamgreyjoy8333 There's not really much of a choice. You either attempt to save the baby or they both die. Viserys not telling her exactly what's happening is a choice that can be debated but I think that was just him not having it in him to tell her that she was about to die.
time jumps and incest is literally what this show is about though haha love your energy and emotions!! so looking forward to part two of this
Emotions are fine, but she's sadly overly histrionic.
Viserys will grow on you. He’s a good king. I’m so excited to see your reaction to the rest of the episode, Nat! And your hair looks beautiful!
he’s a good man and father, but a flawed king.
@@ganjasayjuh I don’t even know if I’d say good father. Don’t get me wrong, he clearly loves Rhaenyra, and I think he absolutely could have been a good father if he hadn’t been the king. But the pressure of ruling and the manipulation from his small council turned him into a pretty neglectful father.
@@JNDReacts yeah i understand what you’re saying. he neglected her, which probably wasn’t as bad before aemma’s death. what really sold him to me though was allowing her the choice to who she would marry, until it became clear that she was incapable of acting for herself.

@@ganjasayjuh Yeah, when you put it that way I guess he was pretty good by their world’s standards.
He's an absolutely awful king. He's not really even that great of a person, but at least a better person than most other characters.
„He is not gonna die in a hunt, is he?“ *laughs in Robert Baratheon*
finally! i've been waiting for this since the series dropped. can't wait to see your reactions, hope you love it
Daemon loves his family entirely, but his ambition rises above that.
Disagree. It isn't ambition that drives Daemon. More than anything he wants Viserys's love and respect.
@@havok6280 you have a right to disagree. Spoiler*****
But he would rather die than see anyone other than his immediate bloodline on the throne (why he acts the way he does towards Rhaenyra later on, wanting war with the Greens) that’s not due to wanting love- daemons entire character is driven by legacy, even the stepstones- instead of taking his brothers help and build a bond with love he hates it, directly contradicting your statement.
@@LS13. I agree with everything u said to some extent, but
Spoiler**
After the large time jump he clearly wanted to just stay in pentos and live a happy life with his family, proving at the end of the day that is perhaps his biggest motivation. I feel as tho he acts the way u described later on because he is a strong willed person and wants to ensure that his family receives what they are owed - otherwise they would be seen as weak which he is not. Plus daemon just really hates the hightowers because otto was taking advantage of his brother for years - again he cares about his family. So while he is motivated in part by legacy and pride, it is family that is at the center of his decisions
I'm beginning to hate the term "morally grey" as a way to avoid talking about how much of a POS Daemon actually is.
Morally gray? Lmao. Just because someone can love while doing horrible psycho shit doesn't mean they are gray. I like him as a character too, but he's evil and psycho as they come. Spoilers*** He kills his wife, he (kind of) has incest sex with a minor, murders people in kings landing. commit war crimes... etc. I'll say this though: He's not as bad as some people in GoT though. He has some redeeming qualities but hey, so did hitler...

Mysaria understands High Valyrian, although we don't know exactly where she comes from, she's from Essos and probably from the old Valyrian Freehold, so she has notions of Valyrian and knew what they were talking about. In the books, she comes from Lys and has the valyrian look, with blond hair and pale skin.

That was her duty.

That's the duty of a queen, the price of their opulent and privileged lives. If she wasn't willing to do that then she could have abdicated her position as queen and had their marriage annulled so that the King could marry someone else.
@@TheRealRightPrice I do agree that the marriage was shit.

"He's crazy but I kinda love it" And thus begins the tale of the Rogue Prince fandom
before the c-section, i believe maester mellos tells viserys that aemma is going to die no matter what, or at least implies it, if that eases things at all.
At long last! This show has been incredible, but I also never lost my love for GoT so I was still on the hype train. I can't wait 2 years for season 2!
As a reminder, Daemon loves his family, like he’d kill anyone that threatened them. He still feels like he needs to show his worth and that he doesn’t need peoples help. Daemon has ups and down but you’re never not cheering for him!
Considering where the seasons ends these first episodes already feel pretty nostalgic.
Are we going to talk about her hair?
You look GORGEOUS!! I love the look! I hope you have a good day nat!
Viserys being cut on the iron throne means that the throne is rejecting him.
The "let me at 'em" by Ridley made me actually laugh out loud, love his sweet computery voice
This season is so good

Your opening ad spots have increasingly had the production and writing value of a Hallmark original. I actually look forward to your next sponsorships!
I was sooo not excited for this show when it was released. But after watching it I'm back into watching GoT lore videos/theories on what will happen in the books.. This show has more promise since its far less complicated than the ASOIAF series.. So I think we'll continue to get an amazing season 2/3
Here I sit, listening to you talking about the trailer, and the possible plot lines, and the characters you like or dislike… And my reoccurring thought is… Oh, Nat, you’ve no idea) I won’t spoil anything, but trust me, this season and its characters will surprise so, so many times.
Heyyyy! Quick thing firsthand - the books are not a novel but a history book based on random povs so they aren’t as accurate
You can pretend I don't understand all you want. YOU can't point to him saying the show confirms what is true in fire and blood, because he didn't say it. You can't even say I didn't understand him, because you can't even point to what he said.
It sounds like you learned that fire and blood has an unreliable narrator and now you are just parroting it without having read it. I've already made it clear I understand what fire and blood is. The book having an unreliable narrator DOES NOT mean the show is clarifying what is true to the book universe. It just isn't. What the show depicts says nothing about what may have actually happened in the book.
And George has NEVER suggested that the show does that. He didnt do it in a way I didn't understand, he just simply HASNT SAID IT. So go around holding yourself up as an authority instead if admitting you are wrong, but the truth is known.
there are no POVs in fire and blood. only archmaester gyldayn reading reports of events. show isn't the "accurate" one either. different story.

about the boar thing: Rhaenyra sad that she hates the sound of dying boars, its reminds here of the sound of crying childeren. I think here stabbing the boar over and over again symbols her hating the fact she has now a little brother, and that child is in her brain replacing her.

Viserys making every single wrong decision for what he deems as the "moral" decision in this fucked up world is soooo good. They lay it out so well what a character
This show is amazing. Can’t wait for the future parts!
Never been more hyped to watch a show with you!
Dragonstone and Kings Landing are right next to each other. Not GoT teleportation just yet. lol
IMPORTANT: Aemma was going to die no matter what!! It was either try and save the baby and basically kill the wife in the process, or let the baby kill her and quite possibly itself. Viserys made the right call, imo. Might as well try and save one than let them both die
King's Landing and Dragonstone are next to each other. You can get really quickly on a ship, and it's almost no travel time on a dragon.
Literally every single fan who’s finished the series: “wait for it Natalie”
Wow i love your hair in this style your look gorgeous with it!! Also I only just started watching your vids 2 days ago but I’m exactly like you when watching so I think it would be a total blast watching shows with you!!
10 minutest of her ranting about saving the wife even though that was never an option, and we were straight up told that by the maester.
Im so glad you’re doing this series! It moved me emotionally!
Spoiler alert
You know i kind of forgot how she kept begging "viserys please" it's really messed up and the fact that he didn't even tell her , and to think the character of viserys is so beloved despite most conflict resulting from his incompetence, and yes while he had little choice in this birth it's still his fault for obsessing about a boy and ruining Aemma's health by also consummating their marriage when she was still a kid , sure the blame isn't solely on him in that one but still his obsession killed her , it's just really sad , i like viserys and understand why by the end we all feel bad for him but really dude made many choices which led him to that end , he knew he wasn't fit for the throne he could've refused it and let rhaenys take it just like maester Aemon did thus avoiding the cuts that killed him and the mediocre ruling that brought war , he could've been content with having a daughter but he didn't until it killed his wife , i empathize with him but really he brought it on himself which is the tragic part

"He's crazy, but I kinda love it" is the best descritpion for Daemon 😂
Nat will go from loving some characters to hating them and also hating characters to loving them lol
i love how many people say that aemma would have died anyway but the whole problem is viserys not telling her.
This show has no right being this good, but somehow it is!
LMAO seeing you truly sincerely wishing NO ONE DIES while watching the precursor to GOT is amazing
“Sacrifice one or lose them both”
Did she not hear that
"He's crazy but I love it" is Daemon in a nutshell
Natalie didn't seem to catch on that it was either try to save the baby or loose them both.
Woke feminists aren’t known for their grasp of reality.
To give context, Dragonstone and King's Landing are only 400 miles apart. King's Landing and Winterfell are 1,460 miles apart. So journeying still takes time. It's just that Dragonstone and King's Landing are close to one another and boats are faster than horses.
Dragonstone is not very far from King's Landing, just saying.
The whole 1st season is pretty much just the prologue in the books, thats why the times jumps are so frequent. The 2nd half of the season slows down and will continue that way from now on to follow the book
It's so frustrating that saving Aemma was never a choice. She was going to die either way but the fact that Viserys didn't tell her is maddening.
