"Running with the Wolves" Renee - SPDS "Fantasy" Showcase

Saskatoon Pole & Dance Studio hosted their thirteenth Studio Showcase Oct 26th, 2024. "Fantasy" showcased Pole, Aerial Hoop, Aerial Cube and Dance performances from studio members & instructors.
Renee has been doing aerial hoop for almost two years and it’s her first time choreographing and performing anything ever. She decided to perform today because seeing past showcases here has been so inspiring and she wanted to challenge herself to be brave! While thinking about the fantasy theme, she realized (as cheesy as it sounds) that aerial hoop has made her biggest fantasy a reality. Growing up, she never did sports or dance and never really felt like she belonged anywhere. Her friend recommended she try some form of exercise for her mental health and that’s how she ended up at her first hoop lesson! She was so scared but went anyway and fell in love. Her love of hoop isn’t just because of how strong it has made her or all the cool bruises she’s gotten, it’s because of the home it has given her, a sense of belonging that she’s been wanting for a long time. The Saskatoon pole and dance studio community has become her family and she considers herself so lucky to get to know and love all these silly badass humans. The song she chose is “running with the wolves” by Aurora and she likes it because it’s about returning to nature and finding freedom among all the wild things. She’s always liked the idea of nature being a home to us all, and feels that the song reflects how she has found freedom through aerials. Freedom to be creative, to be brave, to make mistakes, and most of all, freedom to be her wild self! She especially wants to thank instructor Asja for helping her figure out what to do on the chair, and thank everyone at the studio who has encouraged and believed in her”
