      Very beautiful first time seeing, they’ll need to rethink how to rebuild that bridge to deal with the erosion or else Mother Nature will reclaim it.

    I had vacation here with my family August 11th through the 15th here. It was our first visit at Sanibel and the place and the beaches are so beautiful. The aftermath of Hurrican Ian is just devastating to watch. :( I hope the island can be recovered. 🙏

      It already is! Cleanup is going strong, and Collier county (just a bit south) is closer to opening the beaches.

    I left the Sundial Resort the Tuesday before the storm arrived. I'm now told I'm one of the last people to see the island as it was. I hope it makes a full recovery.

    Thanks for sharing Tom. It will be a few years before it will look anything like that again. I just saw on the news that the news crews made it on the island. Lots of stranded people. Those bridges need to be rebuilt as soon and as fast as possible. Have a good weekend. Rich

    I have been feeling heartbroken about Sanibel/ Captiva and Fort Myers beach since Ian was on there path. There is no words to describe so much Devastación and lost and make some sense of it .I remembered Charley storm desvastation and little by little Sanibel/Captiva bounce back . How much land have they lost? It looks that beach erosión is pretty significant . The area has change and that is soo sad 😢. Praying for a promesing recovery to all residents of Sanibel/Captiva.

    The amount of destruction and the money lost is staggering and of course, the deep sadness for those injured or who lost their lives. It will be so interesting to see how construction codes change to accommodate future storms like Ian.

    If you live on a island you live at your own risk. I pray for people that have to rescue people that are foolish enough to build a home on a island. I can't understand why they don't let islands like this be just for the wildlife.

    I was at vacation at fort myers when the hurricane made landfall. We couldn’t evacuate because there was extreme traffic and the hurricane was very fast. When the hurricane made landfall, the storm surge looked like the ocean just took over the city. The hotel lobby was flooded. The wind kept howling for hours. When it was over, it looked devastating for the people that lived there. I hoped everyone there was okay.

    I was at tropical winds resort back in April, same resort we went to 13 years before with the kids, we loved it so much both times. I hope the resort held up, but I have a bad feeling. They were little bungalows, probably made in 50’s(?) and they were basically right on beach.

    Florida native here living on the west coast, so why would anyone in their right mind want to rebuild on ANY of these barrier islands, only the rich have homes there and to he honest these barrier islands are actually Florida's first defense against hurricanes - well they were before the mangroves were cleared and homes were built. If the powers that be had any sense at all, they would prohibit redevelopment on Sanibel, Captiva, etc...turn them into barrier island parks, restore the mangrove forests, and start using that thing they call a brain and rethink how they come back from Ian.

    • @100perdido
      @100perdido ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jordanjohnson9866 Ok then. What would you prefer? Saying "is no more" is an informal way of saying "is no longer", but no longer what? Is it no longer there or no longer than it used to be meaning it would be shorter.
      And while we are picking nits, why is the word "beard" and "heard" pronounced differently? It you pronounce beard like you pronounce heard, then beard would be pronouned as "bird". Or if you pronounce heard like you pronounce beard, it would be pronouned "heared".
      Now, Jordan, care to discuss your use of "nah" while we are correcting other's usage of informal language or would you rather just drop it?
