    This is one of the features that keeps Tahoma/Opentoonz on top for me. Even in commercial productions, the features in these FREE programs are more than enough for most purposes, compared to Toon Boom Harmony (which costs maybe half an arm and a leg).

    • @DarrenTAnims
      @DarrenTAnims  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it could be worth checking out the DPI of your images and checking if you're using the same DPI in OpenToonz.
      There's also an option in the Preferences, Interface section, called "Pixels only". That keeps the same DPI when you import images.
      This usually results in the image showing up at a different size to your original. This is why it's best to create your levels in OpenToonz first, then draw on them either in OpenToonz or your favourite image program.
      The final thing to mention is that having your zoom in OpenToonz at anything but 100% can make your images look pixelated while editing, but it's the final render that's important, so render your animation out and see how it looks then.

      Hi.
      This is a great question, but one that I can't answer for you. Everyone works a little differently, but because there can be issues filling vector drawings with colour, I tend to not use vector for anything more than basics shapes, so gradients for the sky or grass.
      But the best thing to do is to work with smaller animations first, test out all 3 levels and work out which work better for you.

    Hey Darren, I just discovered OT and T2D and your channel. I like your style of teaching. I am a professional vector illustrator using mainly Affinity Designer for my work. I see they both OT and T2D use vector art internally but do either of these apps allow vector work to be imported? I can't seem to find a definitive answer for this question anywhere. Cheers!

    • @DarrenTAnims
      @DarrenTAnims  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Kevin,
      Thank you. I appreciate that.
      Yes, you can import vector artwork. However, not all features of all vector will be imported. I've seen comments from some users where they've imported prefectly every time. And others have had difficulty; losing lines, fills and other features. So if you want to import vectors, my advice is to try it out and see what works for you.
      My second advice on this, I give to everyone, is to ask yourself, do you really need vectors? Unless you want to resize them in OpenToonz, it might be better to draw them in your preferred vector program, not then render them out to png and import that.
      I know plenty of users, including me, have difficulty working with vectors in OpenToonz. The fills can be difficult to work with. So if I use vectors, I convert them to Toonz Raster levels before colouring.
      Lots to think about there. I hope it gives you some idea of what to try next.
      Good luck,
      Darren

      @@DarrenTAnims Thanks for your informative reply Darren. I guess I could try adapting to a vector to png workflow for this if that works better. You can't paste a raster image directly to a Toonz Raster level, but you can paste it into the program as a single drawing, raster level. Or you can just drag it into an open scene and choose Import.
      But once imported, if it's just the outline, you can use the cleanup feature to create a Toonz Raster level. It's not something I'd recommend using though.
      The question is, why do you want it as a Toonz Raster level?
      And can't you just draw it on a Toonz Raster level? Or you could use your imported drawing as a template, to draw over it.
